“Are you sure about that?” Bill couldn’t help joking at her question, while feeling happy the general rapport between them hadn’t seemed to change even with the time away. “Because my surprises usually involve pranks, but I guess I’ll be good tonight since it’s someone else’s birthday party.” He nodded a little at her answer as he met Zoë’s gaze again, especially when it was the same reason he’d ventured out to LA in hopes of having some fun and seeing some familiar faces. “I know what you mean. Realized I was spending way too much time at home when my own kid asked if I was a couch bum,” he joked, shaking his head a little with a laugh. “So trying to shake that reputation.” As Bill listened to Zoë go over what she’d done at the party so far, the image of her beating a kid at skee ball instantly made him grin. “Wow, Zoë the skee ball terror. Scaring all the kids,” he joked and laughed again. “Don’t mind me needing to see that for myself. But drinks first sounds good to me. Lead the way.” He motioned to the bar with a flourish before falling into step with her. “So, are you still a whiskey girl, or is my memory shaky?” he asked, leaning a little against the bar once they’d reached it.
"Slightly sure," Zoë joked in reply, and was happy that interacting with Bill felt as easy as it always had. "I never minded your pranks, when they weren't directed at me of course, but good of you to behave yourself for the sake of a birthday party." Giving him an easy smile, then lets out a light chuckle when he speaks of his daughter and what she'd asked. "Getting called out by your own kid, that's got to be rough," she teases, "but if it got you to hop on a plane to Los Angeles she must have known that was the right motivation." As Zoë listed off the things she'd done so far, she didn't miss his grin and just laughs before shrugging. "Boy came in talking a whole lot of shit, had to put him in his place," she replied with a grin. "And he had a bunch of little friends with him, so I'm sure I can do an encore later." Zoë just nods when Bill agrees to drinks, and when he says to lead the way, she moves toward the bar with purpose, leaning against it once they reach it, and tries to make eye contact with one of the bartenders. She offers Bill a soft smile at his question before giving him a little nod. "Memory is still in tact, I'm still a whiskey girl and I've already had 3 tonight. We'll just order you 4 fingers right from the start that way we'll be even."
