Language is typically thought of as being distinct from the spatial qualities of the world, but in truth, language is the link between the imagination and the physical world. Words upon the page are the catalyst that ignites the brain to recognize and navigate the world.
In his recent work, graphic artist Federico Leggio has been exploring this connection using typography to trigger the brain to manifest images, objects and shapes.
The only question left to ask is, does language shape the way that we think?
If you’d like to explore further, watch the recent TED Talk by cognitive scientist Lera Boroditsky, where you will see that she has concluded that language does play a role in molding the way that we interpret and interact with the world.
