I hate how Black Butler is clouded with so much shipping and ship wars etc ( don't get me wrong, I like the shipping part) It's just that people forget how utterly tragic the story is. All romance and shipping aside, Ciel's parents died horrifically. It makes my heart sink to imagine being in Ciel's position; seeing his parents laying dead on the floor as his house burned. And it didn't get better after that. He was treated worse than an animal; debased and humiliated, starved and tortured. His only escape from a slow, certain death was to make a deal with a demon in exchange for his soul. And even after that, he has to live with the pain, though he may swallow it or conceal it. It's still there. And even sadder is that he is surrounded by those who adore him and want the best for him, (Lizzy, Madame Red, Soma, etc.) but he pushes everyone away. It's ironic in a way, he's so blinded by his revenge, he fails to see the good he still has in his life..
