My mental health always plummets in the summer, every year like clockwork.

So. Uhm. Not to be too painfully literal, but it's the first day of summer and I'm Not Doing Well™.

Hence, serious question for fellow neurodivergent people:

What do you do when you don't really have anyone to talk to? Or when you only have one person (two if you're lucky) who feels emotionally safe enough to open up to, but you also realize it's probably time to give them a break from your rants, infodumping, and oversharing before the relationship starts feeling strained?

How do you handle that without isolating yourself even further and making everything worse?

(ETA – I don't need a friend or a shoulder to cry on. I mean, clearly I do, but that's not really what I'm asking for right now because I'm... not emotionally ready for that, I guess.

What I'm actually trying to ask is: how do you handle this situation by yourself until it gets better?

Some people seem able to pour all their thoughts and feelings onto a page and come away feeling lighter afterwards, but that doesn't really work for me. So what other strategies do you use when your brain is constantly spiralling and you don't want it to, for lack of a better way to put it, explode all over everything and everyone around you constantly?)

the thing that's dumb about the whole "can you be a fan of a video game if you're watching gameplay on youtube rather than playing the game yourself" discourse, is that people keep comparing that to "reading the wikipedia summary", when to me it's more comparable to "listening to an audiobook" because listening to a story being read is a fundamentally different experience from reading the book yourself, But i think it would be strange if people argued that listening to an audiobook means you're not experiencing the story at all. just because it's not the way you're generally suppose to engage with books as medium.
