Listen. I wish I didn’t scream like a total idiot when Mewtwo appeared in the new live action pokémon trailer. But. I did. I totally did.

As much as some people will no doubt hate on his appearance, though, I’ve always wondered how a pokémon like Mewtwo would be translated from anime and into live action. Because he’s got those almost-human parts of him. His body is just fucking weird, looking every piece of the lab experiment that he is. Like, okay. They gave mouse pokemons fur, dragon pokemons scales. But what the fuck is Mewtwo made of? Just skin, apparently. Which is really disturbing in a way and I’m totally fucking here for that.

Detective Pikachu ~ My Own Investigation

I don’t usually theorize, but Pokémon happens to be a childhood specialty of mine as it is for many, but I noticed something. For one, the new Detective Pikachu trailer is a masterfully crafted trailer; they show many scenes that could be spoilery, but trim them just right so that they don’t reveal too much. But! If you’re as Staraptor-Eyed as my sister and I are, there’s actually a lot of the plot hinted at here.

Mew is in this movie, I’m certain of it, and Mewtwo is—for some mysterious reason—on a psychic rampage.

Partway through the trailer, we see a shot of a desk in some kind of office; an important office, since it has statues of Pokémon gods in the back. But what do we see in this scene?

A seemingly normal Flareon appearing on the desk, quite possibly evolving from an Evee. But I don’t think that’s any ordinary Flareon…I think that’s Mew. For one, we don’t know how evolution will look in this movie; if they go the anime path, it’s just their bodies glowing white as they chang. They don’t glow blue, just white. Also, the Flareon seems to be in the air in that glow, before it lands on the desk.

It also looks like its in a Mew-like pose in the air before it takes form and the glow fades.

But also…it’s eyes…

Flareon eyes are usually a dark color, with most of the eye appearing black or teal in the brighter side. But the Flareon in that shot of the movie?

Its eyes are blue…bright blue. I chose this screenshot because the glow around it has faded by now, so it’s clearer that this thing’s eyes are legitimately and brightly blue. Flareon just does not have eyes that blue, but you know who does?

Now again, it could be entirely likely that it’s just an evolving Flareon, and just so happens to glow blue and have bright blue eyes. But the deity statues in the back, and the pokémon’s position right in line with Arceus—the pokémon that created the world, while Mew supposedly created the other pokémon—leads me to assume that this is a more important scene than it seems.

But my sister and I noticed something else, something that connects to Mewtwo and the other pokémon we see. It might also help with the story, because Mewtwo is definitely on the move, though I don’t quite know why. Because remember Aipom? Who’s newfound realism makes it look more horrifying than a gremlin? Sorry, you’re gonna have to look closely at his face for this one.

Look at its eyes…those are not the eyes of a proper aipom. They almost shine purple in the dark apartment, and it seems fiercer and angrier than aipoms usually are. To help my case, this is Aipom’s proper eye color:

Aipom isn’t supposed to have purple glowing eyes. Something is wrong with Aipom, and my sister and I are of the minds that it’s being psychically controlled. Now, this could just be lighting, sure, but…

Aipom isn’t the only pokémon with mysteriously purple glowing eyes, and Charizard here is definitely not supposed to have purple eyes. In fact, the movie itself gives us a precedence of Charizard’s eye color in the movie itself.

In this image where he appears alongside his problematic trainer, you see his eyes are normal and not glowing purple. Compared to each other, it’s clear that something’s wrong with Charizard during the rematch(?) with Detective Pikachu. In fact, Charizard and Aipom aren’t the only pokémon with this phenomenon, they’re simply the ones with the best shots to see it in. There is, however, that strange scene with the aipoms (and maybe a nuzleaf? My sis thinks it’s a nuzleaf anyway, the red circle one):

Or it’s just another aipom, but still, all of the eyes of these guys when they’re looking towards the camera, they also have the glowing purple eyes (which mr. red circle helps with). Here’s the reason why I think that it’s Mewtwo controlling all of them:

I’M JUST-A SAYING. It’s in the movie, it’s an obscenely powerful psychic, and it has purple eyes; I may or may not be right, but it’s highly likely that Mewtwo’s controlling pokémon to help it accomplish some goal. Whatever this goal is, I’m unsure, but my point remains; that Flareon could very likely be Mew, and Mewtwo could very likely be psychically controlling other pokémon.
