For Kai, it was nice to hear she would remember his birthday. When it came to his family, it felt as if they only remembered because he was the tagalong that came with Jezebel. Still, he did not like to dwell on such things, he figured other people had it far worse than him.
âAwesome, not going to lie. I mean I love CoD and Halo, but my heart is always with the old school games.â Kai admitted as he quickly grabbed his game to put in the console. âI get Yoshi,â he quickly stated, all excitedly. âI mean, unless you want him cause it is your birthday.â
The warlockâs eyes widened at her question, âI mean uh, well you are yeah um cute.â He commented all bashfully. Of course, he noticed Zoya was an extremely attractive woman. He wasnât blind after all, but he never really tended to tell people too often. Unless it was Rydell, but he has been doing that for years on end.
âOh, wow that is great for him. Just never thought Utah was a place for that,â he shrugged. Kai listened as she spoke about Jax, unsure what to say. The LaFontaines simply had a hold on both of them. âI get that, it is hard to open up to someone that hurt you in such a manner. And you donât want to get crushed again by just opening up to him. Iâm sorry, I wish I was smart and knew what the right thing to say is. Iâm here though if you need to talk. I am actually a decent listener, just not a good advicerâŠgood at giving advice? I dunno the right word.â
âAre you going to watch that show? The Halo one?â she asked him as he started to set everything up. Zoya let out a slow âawwâ when he offered to give her Yoshi because it was her birthday though, tender smile on her face as she looked at his jawline, the dark hue of his hair over it. âNormally I would have bullied you into it but since you offered Iâll be nice, Iâll use Daisy since she has a crown and I should have a crown for my birthday.â
With his âumâing and âahâing Zoya perceived his agreement as polite, even as he flushed she figured his embarrassment came from his loyalty to Ry. âYou donât have to say so just because itâs my birthday,â she told him, nudging him with her foot again before drawing it back beneath her. âI wonât like cry or anything, I donât exactly look like your type,â she smiled at him.
âMe neither,â she acknowledged but with little context for the how and the why all Zoya could hold onto was the fact Jax said theyâd talk about things. When Kai said âI get thatâ Zoya watched his expression, kept her dark eyes on him as he continued about getting crushed for opening up. He continued saying he could listen, that he was a good âadvicerâ but it sort of seemed like she wasnât the only one who maybe needed to talk.
âI think theyâre an advisor,â she told him, leaning back in the lounge. It was her birthday, and she imagined he was trying to be polite but in reality Zoya had kind of accepted the fate that playing video games would be the best thing about it, so why not actually listen to the one person who was there for it. âDid something happen with Ry since the cafe?â Zoya asked, maybe too directly.
