TADC SPOILERS AHEAD!! Read at your own risk!
sooo, I watched TADC the last act in cinemas today and I feel like I need to talk about it somewhere (especially about Jax).
I feel like I should note that Ive always felt connected to Jax, we are very similar personality wise and I clocked the fact that his sarcasm and overall personality were a mask bc I use very similar traits to mask my own stuff. As the episodes went on I only got felt more emotionally connected to him.
I first remember when people were saying that Jax was trans (I think everyone thought they were FtM) and this was bc Jax was originally a girl, and had the scene in the maid dress. When these conversations were happening in the community I stayed quiet but really hoped they were true bc I myself am gender queer. Gooseworks never confirmed or denied this theory so I kind of just left it but tried to look at the show with the knowledge that Jax could be, in at least some capacity gender queer.
Then we got to episode 7, Jaxās room is incredibly feminine, and that led to the trans theory gaining traction again⦠everyone was saying that Jax was FtM and that their room was designed by Caine to antagonise them. I, on the other hand believed that Jax wanted their room to look like this, bc if you take the knowledge that the characters in the circus can form things using their own minds I would assume that their rooms would be the first thing they thought to customise or maybe even that their rooms take on the look they want them to have without the characters even knowing. Using this logic I thought that if Jax was anything based off their room they were MtF, non binary or at the very least a femboy or queer man who enjoyed more feminine things.
Now Iām going to talk about things I found in Tadc the last act, note: Ive put these in a way that doesnāt follow the events of the episode but instead goes in order of importance in my opinion.
Jax tells Ribbit that they told their mother something where she then made specific jokes about the subject and finished the interaction by hugging them. While it is never said what the ābig secretā Jax told their mother was, I feel that it being something along the lines of āIām transā or āIām queerā would fit perfectly with the description of the interactions that followed. (Side note: I related to Jaxās description of a semi toxic or even just toxic mother more than I should have but thats a rant for another post)
Like mentioned before we never find out what Jax told their mother, however, after telling Ribbit about the above mentioned situation Ribbit makes an informed guess (assuming that Ribbit knows everything the audience does and that she didnāt get extra information or even a confirmation) that Jax at least somewhat likes feminine things or feels somewhat feminine. To show this Ribbit places her bow tie on Jaxās head and despite the fact that they blush Jax looks truely happy for a little while. This happiness is short lived tho as Jax and Ribbit get interrupted, once the moment between them is broken Jax starts acting strange and scared telling Ribbit that she canāt tell anyone about the conversation they had (I canāt remember the exact wording).
Jax pushes Ribbit away in the weeks that follow their conversation. This is definitely a valid reaction to the fear that you could be outed (short point Ik but I could low-key do something similar if I genuinely thought someone may out me š¬š¬)
At the end of the episode it is stated that Jaxās real life counterpart frequents Zoobleās real life counterpartās bar, which I should note, is a queer bar with the real life version of Zooble using they/them pronouns and the bar being place where people feel like they can truely be themselves. If you havenāt watched ep 9 you may not know about this and if you have pls tell me if Iām wrong but I felt that they really emphasised that Jaxās real life counterpart goes to that bar. In my mind this could be for two reasons, 1) to show that the members of the circus have somehow been brought together in real life, and 2) that this shows that irl Jax is queer, this one is kind of up to interpretation but I personally like to think of it as both.
This is the biggest piece of evidence and the one that fans are using the most when talking about Jax being MtF. And this of course is the fact that during Jax and Pomniās final moments together there is a montage with the song āisnāt she lovelyā playing over the top. There are 2 sides of fans when it comes to why this songs was used, the first group is saying that the song is referencing Jax and Pomniās relationship and that it is being used to show how Jax is thinking about Pomni, this is in turn seen as funnybunny being confirmed. The other side of fans are saying that the song is being used to refer to Jax, saying that the song saying āisnāt she lovelyā is calling Jax a girl and the people on this side are using this to confirm that they are MtF. I obviously sit on the side that this song is being used to show Jax being MtF, I believe this for one reason⦠the montage being shown does not show just scenes between Jax and Pomni, it shows scenes of Jax by themselves, surely if the use of the song was meant to refer to Pomni and Jaxās relationship then all of the scenes in the montage would be of them together, but itās not, therefore I personally believe that the song could be referenced to Jax being MtF. My personal view on this topic is that this song and montage is actually Pomniās view of Jax now, bc she feels that she now sees Jax for who they are, a queer or trans person. This would make much more sense bc it shows scenes of the two of them together and scenes of Jax by themselves, I could be biased tho bc I have never seen anything romantic between Jax and Pomni.
Finally, Gooseworks, a trans person, has said that Jax is their self insert character⦠thats why it is definitely possible that Jax is queer or trans, Gooseworks could have used Jax to show what life is like for a trans person.
To conclude, if you read this whole thing Iām scared of you, but also everything I have said here is just my personal interpretation of this character as someone who found Jax relatable. Nothing is canon and nothing will be canon unless Gooseworks confirms them. Thanks for reading my character and story analysis on why I see Jax as a trans character. Happy Pride 2026!! š³ļøāš
