I have been thinking about how IQ or being smarts correlates with religious understanding.
I will start with language. There can be two words that can have similar meanings but mean different things. ex. Clean and Purge. Purge is a type of cleanse, you cant purge your house of dust but you can clean it. They have small distinct meanings. To purge as a verb means to rid of an unwanted feeling, memory or condition. As a noun its means to violently remove people. Yet they can still be used interchangeably if the context is understood.
correct me if I am wrong but it takes a certain amount of thinking or intelligence to properly group words, their meanings and use them in context properly. Your mastery of a certain language effects not only how you communicate but how well you elaborate your thoughts for a more intimate understanding of whats being said.
With that being said,if an uneducated person from the south Bronx with a limited vocabulary were to engage in a conversation with an LMU munich graduate who majored in engineer and minored in philosophy about the an array of different topics. it would be as if they were speaking different languages albeit they were both exercising their full vocabularies. Not only will they talk differently they will think differently. To a simple man god is a floating man in the sky who grants people's prayers as he sees fit. To an intelligent man who can wrap his head around the idea of god, an aspect of life that is metaphorical in nature, infinite and timeless.
A question I have for you guys is, can you be dumb as nails and truly be a theist. Is the concept of theism only a thinking mans observation of life? I grew up thinking the opposite now I am not to sure.
