Upon hearing the announcement/ reminder, Mia sighed. I could still drop the subject… She thought. But dropping the subject would mean extending a few more months. Maybe she could get her professor to allow her to drop the subject? What would be the relevance of learning Spanish when she’s only got less than 2 months of stay left? “I’ll deal with him once I get home,” she whispered to herself.

What? With a soft bite on her lower lip, Mia lowered her head. “I— I wasn’t paying attention. I’m sorry,” she admitted, feeling a bit embarrassed. “I don’t know…” She whispered. Just when she thinks she somehow managed to keep a low profile, this hot teacher decided to call her. Wow for luck, Mia. Thankfully enough, one student decided to save her, which Mia isn’t sure is a good idea. “Three minutes before dismissal,” she whispered to herself once more. “I can do this.”

Eugenia sighed, she turned to the student who replied for her “It’s a nice thing to help a partner, but with due respect you’re not going to do her exams. Don’t steal her chance to learn. It’s important.”she moved back to her desk to pick her marker, but stopped in her way for a few words to the class “There’s no such thing as hiding to avoid participation here, or low profile, we all are doing exercises here, because you got to demonstrate to me whether or not you’ve learned, so I can help you or tell you how to improve.”

She got close to Mia and handed her the marker, “To the whiteboard, please.” Once Mia reached the board she ordered “Please, miss. Write in English ‘I like red apples’ and mark the structure, as in subject, verb, adjective and noun. You can do it.”

“I’m going to be real honest here and say that I already know that you have a talent for stealing…” Frankie said, straight-faced. “I mean, you pretty much stole my heart… So…” Frankie took the bag with a giggle then brought the other bottle inside the fridge. “Let’s keep that knowledge that way. You’re not going to turn into some.. Alcoholic shit like me…” Feeling that the statement may not sit well with Leela, Frankie then took it back, “I mean, I was once, right? And that isn’t a good thing, so.. Yeah, that’s what I meant.”

It was funny how Leela suddenly became shy and mentioned something about ruining it. Frankie stood up, walked towards Leela’s place on the table, offered her hand for her girlfriend to take, then pulled her up. “Let’s do it together, shall we?” She asked, before planting a soft kiss on Leela’s soft lips.

Turning her girlfriend around, Frankie held Leela’s hands, both of them holding the champagne bottle. “On 3, okay? 1.. 2…3..” With that, they successfully popped the champagne, spilling a bit all over their hands. Frankie, feeling a bit playful and naughty, grabbed Leela’s hand then licked her fingers. “Mhmmm, the champagne tastes nice,” she said with a smirk, before guiding Leela back to her place. Frankie, on the other hand, acted as if what she did was pretty normal, then slowly poured champagne on the glasses. With a raise of her glass, she said, “to a success I wouldn’t have done without you, Leela.”

Even though Frankie’s face was plain straight, she was battling to hold laughter until that very last line that made her blush and look down as her girlfriend got the other bottle to the fridge. But such color wouldn’t last on her cheeks when the alcoholic term was mentioned along with some past experiences, her face went serious and she felt her chest heavy. She does accept that fact, but it definitely doesn’t make her feel well whenever it’s out.

The good thing was, that such expression and feel were temporary as well, taking Frankie’s hand, she stood up and a big smile was on her face when she suggested to open the bottle together.

She was somehow glad when she was turned around, because it was incredible how red her cheeks could go with Frankie. On 3, they opened the bottle, spilling the liquid over their hands, the whole thing got Leela really cheerful, until she felt Frankie’s tongue against her fingers, and she got the urge to hide her face. She actually made an effort to look at her girlfriend’s eyes without feeling shy, then raised her glass and clinked it against Frankie’s and giggled, the approached and kissed her lips softly, before looking away trying to hide a big smile.

She had to check if she was in the right room. The class schedule stated a different professor’s name. Is this how Eugenia is spelled in Spanish, or something? “I think I’m in the wrong room. I–” However, upon checking the room and Eugenia’s confirmation that the class started exactly 9am, she figured she was indeed in the right one. Defeated, she kept her head low, and looked for a vacant seat.

“Fuck, fuck…” She whispered, seeing as the only vacant seat was in the front row. Since she’s been a pretty much big distraction already, for the class, that is, she decided to sit — right in front of Eugenia… Or should she say, her teacher for today.

Back at home, she’s used to being the center of attraction; but things here work differently. Oh how she misses home. Of course, what was expected? She’s way behind on lessons, but she can’t drop the class, even if it’s the best decision she can come up with.

Grabbing her notebook and a pen, she took notes of everything; participated well enough, as well, but tried so hard to maintain a low profile.

However, as crazy as it may seem, she found herself checking Eugenia out. No, not the physical aspect, but the gestures. Her ways inside the classroom. Everyone seems so fond of her – despite the whole strict thing.

It was quite a bad idea to have her mind drifting somewhere else, because the next thing she knows, everyone was looking at her. “I’m sorry — what was the question?”

Once Mia sat, she found it proper to remind everyone about the class status “For those who came after I explained the class structure, Professor Fernández and I have an agreement, that I shall teach here every 15 days. Unfortunately, she went thorugh a delicate operation so she won’t be here until next month.” she explained with in a kind tone, somehow hating how rough she first behaved towards Mia, as if she hasn’t behaved like that enough.

She went thorugh the basic structures of the sentences, with many examples, some readings, and exercises for each case, she was pretty active whenever it came to teaching. Now, when she got to be reviewing she wanted to make sure Mia understood, it was important that everyone would understand. “Would you please tell me what’s the basic structure of a sentence in Spanish that holds an adjective?”

Frankie was going over the script that was handed to her yesterday; it was only now that it had sinked in to her that she finished the semester with flying colors and a bonus — having the lead role for a big university musical. As she was so caught up in reading, she jumped when she heard Leela’s voice. “Hi, sweetcheeks,” she greeted back with a giggle. Frankie listened to Leela go on about celebrating, and it will be considered lying if she says she doesn’t like the idea. However, at the mention of stealing, the look of horror, amusement, and pride, on Frankie’s face was evident. “You stole a bottle? A fucking bottle!” She exclaimed. She took the bottle from Leela then shook her head laughing. “This one seems good. I’m amazed you didn’t get caught,” she teased. “Sit down, I’ll prepare the table for us. And nope, you’re not going to insist that you will do it. I will do it.” Frankie has been too lazy to cook something, that she ended up ordering three boxes of pizza a few minutes ago — all of which she hadn’t even touched yet. After removing the pile of paper on the table, Frankie then set the bottle in the middle of the table, and in an ice bucket , then placed two champagne glasses on both their sides of the table. “I hope you don’t mind pizza, my love,” she said shyly. “I was too overwhelmed to even eat or cook,” she admitted, then placed the boxes on the table as well, before she sat down. “I seriously wasn’t expecting this… This whole play thing. I just wanted the semester to be over. I.. God.. Anyway,” Frankie motioned her head toward the bottle. “Will you please, my dear princess, do the honor of popping the champagne?” She asked, as she kept her gaze focused on Leela’s, a smile on her face evident. “Also, tell me about your day and your admirers at work,” she teased.

Leela looked at Frankie’s face with a mix of emotion, that was about to make her really worried, when her girlfriend finally laugh, she slapped her arm. “Don’t judge me.” At the remark on getting caught she said “I don’t even know how I did that, and guess what? Please, don’t kill me... I might have taken another?” she said putting on a cheesy smile and lending the bag to Frankie, with a small bottle in it. “I’m not sure what it is, but it might be vodka or one of those things, you know I have little knowledge on liquor.” 

When Frankie announced the table preparations, Leela was about to stand up when the girl basically read her intentions, she sat again and laughed. She observed how the cie bucket and the glasses came along and couldn’t help but to smile at such gesture. “I don’t mind pizza if that’s what you want. I would be overwhelmed as well” Leela herad Frankie’s story about the play and the semester, then when the ‘popping the champagne’ line came, she gulped, her clumsy self would always make her sweat with fragile things like that, even if it seemed easier for everyone. She turned her attention to the bottle, so much, that barely heard Frankie asking about her day. About to try opening the bottle, she handed it back to her girl “I don’t want to ruin it” she said, feeling shy.

Mia woke up to a call from her professor — the one who didn’t tell her about the supposedly good travel schedule. So instead, she ended up staying longer than planned. It’s been, what, months? But still, she can’t find herself adjusting to the timezone of the foreign country. “I don’t have to! I won’t be staying for long,” she argued, half-awake, at least. But of course, as it was suddenly required by the university, failure to attend the required class would mean delayed graduation for her. “Okay, okay. I’ll try if I can even spark up a conversation with whoever,” she said, definitely defeated. Seeing as it’s already quite late, she rushed up to go to the uni, which was just walking distance (thanks to dormitories and all those stuff). Thankfully enough, after a few hours, she managed to enroll herself in a Spanish class. “—What? The class starts in 5 minutes!” She exclaimed with a shake of her head. 

As expected, she was late. When was she not late anyway? But, isn’t it an acceptable reason that she didn’t know where the rooms were? Knocking on the door, she slowly entered afterwards. “I’m sorry I’m late. I didn’t know where —-” Wait. What? Eugenia? @zvezdax

Eugenia got up early as usual, taking the enough time to review the things she was going to teach during the day, have breakfast, wear her clothes porperly and do her makeup. Morning were usually beautiful in Argentina with its clear skies, she would retrieve her warm coffee from the shop where her closest classmate worked at, even if she wasn’t there, her order would be always  punctual at 7:30 when she dropped by.

She would be at uni by 8, 30 minutes before her class started. Sitting by her usual chair, she would read once more her notes and do some warm-up exercises, a correct pronunciation was important even if she was in a country with a heavy accent, where words with y or ll, would sound sh, instead of its actual sound, so she would always point the differences to her students.

Punctuality would be always a big thing for her, starting her class at 9, whether there was a full class or just 2 students. It was with the purpose to teach everyone to be punctual, as well as finding out who was truly interested and who wasn’t.

“Roll you r’s! It’s very important for you to do so, if you want to handle all the letters, always remember that the structure is different, English uses an adjective before the noun, we go with the contrary. What did we—?” she suddenly stopped when the door opened and revealed a very familiar figure. Mia? What even—?

Even if she wanted to give her a warm welcome, she had a settled behaviour she wanted to stand for, and that meant no preferences. Wearing a serious face and clearing her throat to get rid of the sudden nervous state, she said “Welcome, miss. Please, take a seat. Let me remind you that the class is at 9, it would be wise if you came at 8:30, in case you get lost” she waited for her to sit to continue with the class.

“I’m heeere!” Leela said in a cheerful tone when she got to Frankie’s place. She ran happily to where her girlfriend was and hugged her tight. “We are celebrating today, right? I mean, if my work has showed me something is to not let success go without a celebration.” Leela kissed Frankie and added “I took the bother to steal this...” she pulled the bottle from the plastic bag she had in hand, and read what was the content “this... new champagne I’ve never tried.” She took it out of the studio’s fridge so fast, that she wasn’t even sure if she got it right, after all, she was more worried about not getting caught.

So, suddenly an idea with Agnes (Julianne Moore FC), came to my mind. Teacher/Teacher.

A and B were in a relationship, but B mostly felt attracted by any of her students, while A was quite naive about it and thought it was just for the sake of helping them improving their grades. A finds out B kissing a student waking up to reality, so they split. A transfers to another college to teach but B finds somehow unable to dettach from A following her to that college the next year (opt: B realizes is in love with A; or! B has some troubles to depict those feelings and states that follows A just to take care of her). AND OMG! just give me all this!

“Woah, short-tempered. Feisty,” Mia joked with a PLAYFUL roll of her eyes. Back home, she’s known as someone who asks a LOT of questions. Also, the TALKATIVE one. She finds it rather difficult to adjust, when she will only be staying for a FEW months. “I’ll forget about the TONE you used on me because you used PLEASE. I’m easy to talk to,” she said confidently. Oh, and that. CONFIDENCE. Hah. “Holy COW! Modern Languages? That is so FRIGGIN’ awesome!” She blurted out, the amusement evident on her eyes and on her tone. “Thank Wes Craven I won’t be taking ANY Spanish units for this stuff,” she whispered, chuckling to herself.

“I would LITERALLY have to spend my time ‘til September, as the minimum stay? GOD,” Mia shook her head then rolled her eyes once more before she turned to the lady. “I knew I should’ve done some RESEARCH before heading here. I just couldn’t stand him,” she said though the last sentence was more of a whisper. When she saw the lady laugh, Mia smiled widely. “You should laugh more often. You look better with the POSITIVE aura,” she shrugged. “I mean, come on, laughing is… FUN.” Mia shrugged at the lady’s remark about fishing. “You don’t know how to fish?” She asked, a smug smile plastered on her lips. “I KNOW how. I USED to do it with dad.” Oh, those memories. fuck, no. The lady’s question made Mia laugh. “More like YOU will do the charming. You’re hot and beautiful and HOT. Plus, you can speak the language. Please?”

Eugenia tried hard to not show a smile at the lady’s remark about the tone she just used, and looked away. But it was impossible to at least chuckle after this one’s amusement over her own career. She nodded, and said with a felt honesty, “I really like it.” Eugenia tilted her head in confusion about the whispered words, but found lovely the chuckling from the girl, but, of course, it was not something she was going to admit or to show, she just limited to clear her throat and forget about it. After all, wasn’t she one to keep a contradictory status of hopes up, yet guard up?

“Yes, you have. Apparently” Eugenia said and rolled her eyes as well. “You should have...” she limited to say at that mostly whispered sentence, she wasn’t one to mess into anyone’s business, but couldn’t help trying to dig a bit “Is your stay really limited that you can’t stay until September at least?” Eugenia laughed even more at her words, not only because of the mystic references she could think about, as in those fake tarot people, but because she was reminded about the only good trait of her mother, that impromptu joke whenever she needed that someone made her laugh. She nodded, in agreement with her, that laughing is fun. “I’ve never even tried, despite of going to the beaches every weekend, I never got interested on fishing” she then smiled gently at the lady’s memories, then was grateful for her next question, because smiling at someone she just met was starting to seem weird to her. Especially, when she has been verbally rude. At the reply she got from her question, she could only open wide her eyes and mutter “God... Please, do you think I’m the kind of girl who goes around charming people?” she looked down at when hearing HOT twice. “How about you just charm someone and I translate for you?” she said in an annoyed tone, she wasn’t charming, beautiful, yes, but charming? Adorable? Hell, kind? No. That wasn’t her, or at least, that’s what she made people believe.

“Venezuela,” Mia repeated, as if keeping track of pieces of information. Somehow, Mia got confused and no matter how much she tried to control her lips, she ended up asking, “If you’re not from here and we’d get to go to the same univ, then I guess you’re here temporarily? Why? Something about your study? Or do you work here?” Crazy ideas started playing inside Mia’s mind and she can’t deny the fact that she’s worried. “Fuck, are you going to be my professor or instructor? I’m fucking dead.”

“Well, originally, I’m from Australia, but my parents,” she paused, thinking of a good reason other than the divorce. “They decided that moving to the Philippines would be the best idea.” Mia frowned a tad, not sure as to what the lady means regarding the September or October. “Hang on, you mean, I wouldn’t get to see the whales anytime soon? I’d have to wait for September or October?” Mia sighed, relaxing a tad and enjoying the view from their place. “Well, how was the modelling world for you?” She asked, looking at the lady. Mia can sense sarcasm quite well, considering how often her friends back in the Philippines use it; however, Mia decided to ride on. She extended a hand towards the invisible figure. “Why, hello there, tall guy. I’m sorry for interrupting your date with this beauty right here. But, I’ll try to be as respectful as I can over here. Will it be a big deal if I borrow her for some days? I just really need her company,” she nodded repeatedly as if listening to some unseen figure. “I’ll take care of her, no worries.” Mia turned to face the other lady before answering her question, and acting as if she didn’t just make a fool out of herself, though in reality, she’s dying to blurt out her kept-in laughter. “I figured maybe we could go fishing or something. We could try using our charms, along with your ability to speak the language.”

Eugenia nodded when the lady repeated the name of her country. The questions came one after the other and she didn’t even know when to start speaking or which one to start with, at the end she shook her head, waved her hands at her and raised up her voice “Hey, hey! Hold your damn horses!” she took a breath before adding “Please...” taking another breath, she started replying “Okay, number one, I’m not from here, yes, I’m temporarily staying. Second, I’m studying Modern Languages. Third, sometimes I do work here, lately, you can say so. Last, I’m not your professor, but I am an assistant to the professor who teaches Spanish, so, sometimes I do give his classes.”

As soon as Eugenia heard about the girl’s parents’ tale, she knew that silence on that topic would be the best, she wasn’t in good terms with her own, she didn’t hate them, but disliked how they tried to take control over her choices. She limited herself to reply with a simple... “Oh, I see.” At the whales’ interrogation she sighed, she started to think on why the girl wouldn’t be aware on this and about to point it out, but coming out as rude twice was not the best idea, for both. “I heard that you can see them on May and June, but not from here. They get the closest on September and October but still, you’ll have to move south this country to get real close. You should ask your teachers about it.” When it came to modelling, Eugenia frowned slightly and only said “Competitive.” She wasn’t too fond of those days, way too much competition and fake friendships.

She didn’t expect the lady to just go with her sarcastic remark, even less, that such thing would make her laugh. Eugenia felt someone relaxed after laughing. “Fishing, that’s a weird thing to ask... well, at least for me, I didn’t exactly learn to fish.” she said and shrugged, then gave her a look “You really want to charm someone in Spanish that much?”

“So my looks could be both a blessing and a curse in this place?” Mia asked, chuckling a tad. “Considering the fact that you aren’t going to take advantage of me, then, I believe you’re not from here,” she joked, not wanting to generalize the people from the place. After all, she’d have to live with them for a while. “God, I miss home,” she whispered which was then followed by a sigh. 

“Okay, great,” Mia said, smiling sweetly. “Maybe you should orient me about the culture first? I don’t know. I might do something that’s probably illegal here but legal back in the Philippines,” she shrugged. When asked about where she wanted to go, Mia jumped a tad, as if she’s back to being a teenager, then clapped her hands. “Do you know how I’ll be able to see the whales up close? I mean, I’m sure they’d allow me to, considering I have the letter or whatever that states that I am here for the study of them,” Mia looked at the lady and for a while, allowed her eyes to examine the lady’s features. Damn, she’s hot. She’s a beauty. “I don’t know if you’ve heard this before, but, you’re a beauty. Are you a model or something? I think I could have a crush on you,” she said all casually. “Anyway,” Mia cleared her throat, as if going back to the not-so-awkward state. “You’d help me talk to that guy over there, wouldn’t you?” She asked, smiling.

Eugenia gulped, this was getting a bit too much, but still replied “You can say that.” When it came to the other question, she answered “No, I’m not from here. I’m from Venezuela, up north of this South America.” She heard her sigh, and barely get some words, but maybe it wouldn’t be good pointing out the homesick topic at the moment, she dealed with it when she first arrived to Argentina.

“Well, that I’m not sure, I’m not too familiar with the culture here, or maybe I’m somehow quite familiar to even know how to point it out to someone who’s not from here. I mean, you’re not even from this continent, so I’m not sure which could be the differences besides the language, since I have no clue about the Philippines.” Eugenia was caught in surprise by the girl’s reaction, she seriously liked the whales “Oh well, they’re usually around here on September or October, I’m sure they’ll allow you to be close to them” she said while looking right at the sea. The next was a bigger surprise for her, even if she didn’t want to, she blushed, but looked away for the girl to not notice “I did some modelling in the past, mom thought I was good at it.” Eugenia glanced at the girl then back at the sea “I don’t know about the crush, but sounds like a familiar line that ends with a fictitious date, and I say fictitious because I’m having one right now with this tall boy” she said smiling sarcastically and signalating an invisible figure next to her. The atmosphere got awkward, so she was thankful for the lady to end it up. However, the request made her frown and ask “Why?”

“Fuck, great!” Mia blurted out, all excited, at the fact that someone can help her with the language. Sure, Mia still feels a bit unease with the lady, but, who wouldn’t anyway – especially when you’ve started off at the wrong foot… somehow. Mia laughed a tad at the lady’s words about how she’s taking things her own way. “Why, why,” She started, a smirk playing on her lips. “This pretty?” She repeated, grinning, clearly teasing the other. “Will people take advantage of ladies clearly not from here?” Mia shrugged, thinking of the lady’s words, but then laughed loud, the kind of laugh that knows no silencing. “I’m lucky if they even understand me,” she commented as she tugged some loose strands of hair behind her ear. 

“I’m temporarily taking some classes there.” Somehow, there’s this weird feeling of happiness inside her, knowing that they would be seeing each other often. “Take me to wherever I want to go while teaching me the language,” she winked then smiled warmly, as if seducing the lady with her own charms – well, it definitely works back in her hometown. “I mean, how could you deny the lessons to someone as beautiful as me?” She asked, batting her eyelashes.

Eugenia gave a few steps back due to the girl’s excitement, and her body went even kinda stiff at the clearly teasing, it reminded her of back home, Venezuela. Ladies could get so flirty and then state that they’re just friends, or that is normal, or that they’re just teasing, so many things she could go through, from simple kisses to her cheeks, to having them sitting on her lap all comfortable, to say the least. Dismissing those thoughts she said “Of course, they would, Argentinians go a bit crazy about foreigners and their looks, both guys and girls.”

She’s just one of those flirty girls, yup, that she is, everything’s normal, she thought. “Yes, that’s the purpose, teaching you something while we go to wherever you wish.” However, the girl’s last words got her a bit shocked. Eugenia ignored the final comment, going through that convincement mantra she’s straight, there’s nothing happening here and only nodded. She asked “So, where do you want to go?”

Mia raised a brow at the lady’s words – it was like an automatic response to whatever she thinks or feels is rude. Finally someone whom she can have a decent conversation with. But no, screw the decent part there. “You don’t, not exactly. Not really with that attitude of yours,” Mia said, whispering the last part of her statement.

She discreetly rolled her eyes when she heard the word sorry. “Well, I’m a marine bio student and I’m here for the whales,” Mia started. “I don’t know if it’s pretty obvious, but I’m having some sort of a difficulty communicating with people here,” She sighed with a roll of her eyes. “Are you from this place? Or like, are you familiar with the language used around here? I kinda need help with the language. Two options: come with me everywhere I go, or teach me the language,” she said, but before letting the girl speak, she held up her hand. “I know it’s too much to ask, but I desperately need this for uni. I’ll do anything in return.”

Eugenia heard her words and the whole statement of the girl being a marine bio student, and how it was obvious that she was there for the whales, which made her raise an eyebrow. It was kinda obvious for where they were, and maybe the boy and all the previous ones came on one, which would explain why they seemed to never show up, except on two seasons: whether they wanted help with their tasks, or they wanted her to introduce them to one of her classmates.

“I’m not from here, but I definitely know the language.” Eugenia took a breath before replying, she was grumpy, indeed, and didn’t mind about letting all her words out, but this girl needed help with language. She went with that rambling on her mind until the last words got her out of it. “Woah, wait, no need for that anything, I hope you haven’t gone on someone else like this, especially when being that pretty.” The girl was pretty indeed, which made her frown when she started to get somehow glued at noticing her features. “If you’re in this city’s uni, we would meet pretty often then. Right now, I think is for the best if I take you to wherever you want to go.”

Damn, what happens when someone who isn’t a linguist at all travels alone? “Ugh,” Mia muttered under her breath, as she struggle with talking to people. Walking towards the 5th person in probably three minutes, she hoped that this person act as an angel for her. “Hi, excuse me… I know this is silly, but.. I really need help,” She said, forcing a smile.

¿Cuándo si quiera acabará esto? Eugenia asked herself, she has been standing around the place so much, that she couldn’t help to ask when the whole days of wait will be over. So used to have her dates cancelled that she was starting to give up on any kind of date. 

When turning to her side, she noticed a girl asking others abut something, even when she caught her attention, she just hoped to not be the one next to be interrogated, a lot of people asked her a lot of things while she was waiting for this boy she agreed to meet. Eugenia rolled her eyes at the girl’s question, her bad humor led her words “Gosh, do I look like a part of the tourism division?”

Eugenia was aware of how rude that was and tried to give a better reply “I’m sorry.” She said, and after taking a deep breath she asked “What do you need?”

Frankie didn’t need to ask if Divya’s fine; just seeing the way the younger lady looked down before turning away at what she now assumes is a sensitive topic, Frankie didn’t know that opening it up is a good idea. Somehow, she felt for the younger girl –, maybe she misses Leela? Or maybe there’s a deeper explanation of it? She’ll never know; she’ll never ask anyway. Besides, they just met. The first impression she planted on the younger girl was surely a negative one, but she couldn’t care less. “Hardwork,” She repeated, a small smile forming her lips. “It does.” She sighed deeply then closed her eyes for a bit. There was awkward silence for a while, but Frankie decided to speak up. “I love her.” She whispered. “I mean, I’m pretty sure you’re taking mental notes on whether I’m fit for your sister or not. I know I fucked up before, thus the reason for the breakup. I can’t guarantee you that everyday will be a perfect day for us. But I can promise you I won’t hurt her, not intentionally, at least. She means the whole universe to me, Divya.”

“Do you know this place enough to run a certain direction?” Frankie asked before flashing Divya a grin. “You may be swift, but dear, the ball is still in my court. I know every twist and turn in this place. Even the shortcuts.” She winked. Frankie tried to suppress a laugh, but failed instantly. “You mean, you don’t want to know what Leela does with me in bed other than sleep?” She teased, but then turned serious. “We don’t do stuffs, Divya. We’re both too busy to do anything.” At her own remark, she felt her cheeks turn a tinge of pink. “I look way toooo innocent to do something… naughty towards your sister.”

“Free days are cool.” She said with a nod. “I mean, I have those right now, but I’m running on 50% scholarship. Can’t let that go to waste.” Frankie passed the TV remote to Divya after switching it on. “Go choose anything.” Frankie pulled the pile of paper from the table then placed it on the vacancy beside her. Grabbing a sheet, she eyed the piece. “So, your parents know that you’re going to visit Leela?” She asked. “Did your sisters send regards or anything of that sort? Why didn’t you bring them along? I would be very pleased to meet them.”

An awkward silence fell among them, until Frankie’s words resonated in the air, making Divya to look straight at the girl’s eyes, a short speech followed the expressed feelings, a small smile fromed in her lips when the taking mental notes part came up, she looked down after the final line, then raised a hand, for her to stop. “Give me a moment, it’s not like I get hear such a speech towards my sister everyday.” She took a deep breathe before continue “I do know that my sister likes girls and I support her but, seeing you... hearing you... I don’t know, it feels too real and I guess I have to get used to it. Or more like... I need a minute.” She took another breath and finally said “Don’t ever abuse of her kindness, please, and don’t ever treat her like she’s less than anything.” Her own eyes revealed a glimpse of sadness and fear, her sister’s pain would always hurt her more than her own.

Divya looked to the sides, “well, I might not know it, but I’ll work on it in the march” she replied Frankie’s grin with a frown, until the wink surprised her, making her blink several times. She shut her eyes at the question that included her sister and bed. “Okay, thank you” she said when nothing was mentioned. At the sight of Frankie’s pink cheeks, she giggled. “Ugh, it’s not like it’s my business anyway.”

She heard her speaking about college and scholarships, and that somehow made her wonder what she would like to study, that wasn’t exactly clear yet. However, she had a foot on the Business school already. Taking the remote that was offered to her, she started to switch channels, and stopped somehow at one that was transmitting what it seemed an astronomy documental. Her were basically glued to it, she barely blinked. The last question was the one that took her out of that trance. “Well, I... guess they assume I’m going to, since I came here to stay at my uncle’s.” When her sisters were mentioned, she frowned and turned to her “I don’t think you would be very pleased, unless you’re a masochist or something. I mean, if I’d come here with my other sisters, I’m sure the one of the three scenarios would have been portrayed” she chuckled and continued with a serious face “They would have not been as nice as myself. Lara and Simran might have been a tad nice, or look at you like whetever, sure, judging included, but Kareena? I think she would be capable of doing the getting in your pants thing, just for the sake of hurting Leela or mess with someone who’s closely related to her.” She shrugged “Anyway, it’s not like they know I’m here” she blurted out accidentally, but tried to wash the surprise from her face as much as possible.

“Good ones, of course. You’re sister’s a nice lady. She wouldn’t even hurt a fly if given the chance.” She joked, smiling a tad. “If I can remember it clearly, I’m sure she mentioned about that telescope she gave you, or something like that. It’s pretty clear she’s very fond of you, kiddo. The way her eyes lit up the moment she was talking about you… It was breathtaking.” She looked at Divya once more, but this time, her expression’s soft. Frankie smiled lazily, then ran a finger along her own hair. “It’s going great, to be honest. A few more polishes, then maybe I can get a high grade for the subject. I still have two weeks left, but if I’m going to practice in the uni’s auditorium, I better be prepared – reallll prepared.”

Seeing the eye roll, Frankie smirked. “Who knows this child has the sass I never had when I was a kid?” She asked herself before laughing out loud at Divya’s answer. “Kid, I’m bigger than you. I’m pretty sure I can take you down with two swift movements, if you ever came here to kidnap me. As for the stealing, I don’t think there’s too much to steal. Except, these music sheets.” Frankie grinned teasingly before continuing. “Regarding the getting in my pants and run, the first part is possible. The running, not so much. I wouldn’t want to pollute your innocent mind, with the explanation of why.” She said, patting the lady’s head gently before laughing again.

“And what if he doesn’t have anything?” She asked. “We can go for a smaller size. I’ll still order. Just suit yourself once it arrives.” Frankie nodded once, before she flashed a smile on Divya. Hearing the word please, Frankie chuckled slightly. “So like Leela.” She whispered before she headed to the kitchen to make iced tea.

Returning to the living room with a pitcher of iced tea and two glasses, she settled them on the table. “Feel at home, Divya.” Frankie said before pulling her phone out to order pizza. The call didn’t take long, for she is a regular of the pizzeria. “–Yeah, okay. 25 minutes? Got it, thanks, John.” Then hung up. She turned to face the younger girl. “The pizza will be here in 25.” She informed. “I’m surprised your parents allowed you to travel alone. Why did you decide to visit, by the way?”

Divya heard Frankie’s first words about her sister, and smiled along, but by some reason her smile started to turn into a sad one as the last words resonated in her head. It was right, she was nice and kind, too kind, too kind to even defend herself. She was thankful that the older girl started talking again, because she wouldn’t have the strength to smile once more if she kept connecting the thoughts and memories. The next words that came out from Frankie’s mouth, only made her eyes to water a bit, but she looked down to hide it, as she nodded. She looked away, thinking on the starry skies she have got to watch thanks to that telescope, that gift from her sister, taught her to see wonder in everything and to dream. At the reply to her second question, she took a breath, trying to relax a bit, and said “Hardwork always pays off, that’s what my sister says.”

Divya giggled when Frankie laughed, she need to laugh to dissipate the connecting dots, then shook her head “Don’t underestimate size, I could move faster, and maybe you wouldn’t grab me so soon.” Then at the the scenario remark from Frankie, she shut her eyes, “Please, don’t. I don’t want to know what you and my sister do at nights.”

She couldn’t say no this time, besides, in the customs of her motherland, she wasn’t allowed to say no when gifts or food was offered to her, for it would be taken as rude. When barely listening to the comparison, an outsider would think that she’d hate it, but instead she muttered very low while looking at the floor “She’s 10 times better than anyone.”

When the iced tea came in, Divya got close to the table, she started to pour some into the glass when that question she didn’t want to hear just yet, was made. She paralyzed a bit, but then had a long sip before replying “Uhm, I just wanted to take advantage on my free days at school and visit my uncle, sure, it’s also a excuse to visit my sister.” A lie she practiced during her travel time, she told her parents that she was going to visit her uncle, but the one living in Kolkata, India.

“She has heard that a million times already. I’m pretty sure she knows I don’t mean it.” Lilly explained, looking at Alessia, who was now entertaining the visitors. “No worries, I definitely understand. Whether we are in a party or not, it’s not something I should get my hands into. You know, personal stuffs. I should never be trusted with secrets.” Lilly joked once more, discreetly referring to how secrets are the reason why she can do her job greatly. She’d use the secrets for them to know where they should belong. “Professional secrets, are of a different story, though. The financial reports and findings or whatevers.”

Three fucking words, and everything came crashing back. That same tone. The pain of leaving. Her name being called by him. That feeling where her heart feels like it’s being held by someone she loves, only to have it crushed right in front of her. And lastly, that weakness. Her weakness.

“I.. I can’t stay here.” She whispered, though her feet show otherwise. She took a deep breath while her lips twitched a tad. “I-I’m sorry.” She said, her voice shaking. She can’t face him – not with the tears forming the sides of her eyes now. Alessia, fortunately, saw the state Lilly is in, then walked close. Lilly pulled her in for a hug, then whispered to her that she has found him and that she wants to go. “Not this time, Lilly.” She held Lilly by the wrist, then walked towards Jay. “You guys need to talk. Alone.” Lilly was quietly sobbing now, too weak to even argue with Alessia. Alessia extended a hand for Jay to take then led them to a room upstairs.

“Talk.” Was all Alessia could say before leaving the two of them.

“J-Jay…” She whispered after she has settled herself on the edge of the bed, her eyes fixed on the floor. “I’m sorry for shutting you out. Whatever it is that you heard today, y-you can ignore it. We can pretend this never happened. You can continue hating me, I wouldn’t mind.. I-I’d take it.”

Jay listened to her talking about secrets and nodded “I understand. Though, that reminds me when I tend to get into the same secrecy situation with students, teachers and sometimes parents. You have to be careful on who you tell that or when to tell.”

Lilly wasn’t facing him and he just didn’t know what to do, after all, they were in someone else’s place, more than that, he felt the need of hugging her, holding her, but, would it be right? 

He was about to tell her that she could stay, but he’ll leave instead if his presence made her so uncomfortable, when Alessia walked close to Lilly. They hugged. And finally, someone was doing something to get rid of the static atmosphere where both of them didn’t know what to do about each other. He took Alessia’s hand and then followed her to a room upstairs.

Jay’s eyes were on the door before turning to Lilly, who sat on the edge of bed. He walked slowly towards the same place and sat neither too close, nor too far, just a proper distance so she wouldn’t feel uncomfortable.

After hearing her words, Jay sighed and started “Lilly, I don’t hate you...” he made a pause before continue, “In fact, I’m really glad to know that you’re doing well, and you still went after you goals. If anything, I’m proud about you. Someone had to be stronger when it comes to this goal pursue.” he said, daring to take her hand, squeezing it for a brief moment before pulling back.
