Social Leadership Challenge 2015
'The focus is in educating youths to plant seeds to grow beautiful flowers, but also allowing them to embrace fun and excitement.'
When I stepped onto the plane from Singapore on 4th October, I was still wondering why I signed up for this trip. I'm in an engineering course, in a sports CCA. Why would someone like that possibly be given such an opportunity to participate in a Social Leadership Challenge?
As I stepped off the plane yesterday back in Singapore, my heart and soul has finally realised the purpose of this trip.
It has been an amazing 12 days of enrichment, enjoyment and empowerment. 12 days of hectic planning and late nights. In the interview, I said community service was an area that I felt I had potential in to explore, and indeed I have.
The friends that I made in this trip was the foundation for all that's possible in the future. The leaders in their CCAs show good promise in collaboration. Different mindsets in friendship and leadership, different specialisations and ideas.
This has been the longest time I have spent overseas, and this has also been the most educational. There is definitely much to digest over the coming weeks, as many of life's lessons has been taught over the past two weeks.
I hope to be a better leader, a better friend, and most of all, a better person who friends would not feel burdened by.
To all who went for this challenge: as we set out to bring our ideas into life through projects, remember that we are never doing this for any other reason. We are doing this because we have the HEART to.
All the best, but never neglect your studies.
