Eyes carefully followed the towering male as he moved, almost like watching the other would calm her twisting stomach in some way. The blonde had spent months trying to memorize every little detail of the male, from how he talked to how he walked. Every tiny detail had been locked away in this miniature box in the back of her mind for safe keeping. Light browns tugged away from the other to scan around her. It was far more comforting than the walls of Bates, yet it was a sight she wasn’t sure about. She’d easily compare the penthouse to standing in the middle of a museum filled with the finest art - breathtaking.
Words filled her ears and all she could really do was nod. Change was like rolling dice with the young girl. She’d either crash and burn under the pressure of it or she would come out stronger than before. So far, it was like flipping over blind cards, she didn’t know where she would land. Eyes hadn’t moved to set back on the male until after quiet words covered over her. Light browns searching the familiar face for a silent moment before shaking her head. “No,” she let out with a small breath. It had to be the first time in hours her lips had curved into something close to a smile. “It’s just a lot to take in all at once. I guess it’s just difficult to process.” Honest words, always honest words with the other.
& * | ZAIDEN KNEW THAT the transition from Bates to life outside of the mansion would be one that would take time; he had prepped himself mentally for the stress the young blonde may be in following their leave from the place that had originally brought them together. But at the same time, the blue-eyed man couldn’t help but let out a hushed sigh. “I understand that,” he murmured, pausing as he stood in front of her. it was instinct that lead him to raise a single tattooed hand to cup Brinley’s face, gently lifting her gaze up so that copper eyes met cold,. ice-blue ones. “And you know that if there’s anything you need, if I can help. All you have to do is say so, Princess.” This time, his words were hushed. Heavy with honesty as he searched her expression for a sign--anything--that would betray whether she was happy, angry, upset, confused... with the situation they were in.
Zaiden wasn’t in the business of second-guessing himself. Confidence was a part of his very essence--but right now, the dark-haired male couldn’t help but feel as if this was something of a... no, not a mistake. But a premature decision. The pair had all but danced around any sensitive subject that had fallen into their laps. They carefully kept feelings under wraps--even if Zaiden admitted to himself that Brinley meant more to him than just a pet. Slowly, Zaiden sighed and let his hand fall away to instead seek out Brinley’s own small hand. Tattooed fingers laced with hers, a brow quirked. “Why don’t we go put your things away. i can show you my room and the rest of the penthouse.”
( & * | brinley. )
It all seemed a bit overwhelming for the blonde which easily pushed her into an unusual state. Withdrawn, copper-colored hues simply taking in each movement of anyone around her, this almost shy attitude as she simply observed. It was the best way for her to process the unexpected change. The female understood why it was hard to entirely understand it, because she had mentally prepared herself for a goodbye. Set this small scene out in her head for months, preparing herself for this horrible goodbye, getting herself ready to pretend she didn’t care. But it seemed plans changed.
Letting her focus fall to the sights around her seemed to be the best way to keep her head clear, her attention falling more onto the lights of New York than the arm around her own hips. It wasn’t just leaving Bates she had to process but being out in the open. Being stuck within the same walls every day for nine months certainly took a toll she hadn’t entirely realized. Brinley grew up watching her own back, keeping people close but never close enough to cause harm, the mansion only seemed to intensify her need for survival. An intense instinct she didn’t need as high away from the horrid building. Her own eyes hadn’t set on the male’s face until they reached the unfamiliar penthouse, almost like she was worried everything would rip away if she gazed too long.
The familiar kiss to her head lifted some weight from her shoulders as feet took their first hesitant steps forward. Eyes slowly taking a small scan around her before setting on the male she’d grown so fond of. His question was blurred to her, causing her to blink twice to pull herself out of her funk before shaking her head. “No, no. I’m alright.” Her own voice broke out, holding its usual calmness even with its slight crack.
& * | HE LET OUT a low hum, automatically sensing that familiar calmness settling over Brinley’s words. Having been around the slight blonde for months now allowed Zaiden to observe her. Many considered the blue-eyed man to be oblivious, absorbed with only himself, his own power, his own success--but those who believed that hardly knew Zaiden at all. He knew Brinley, knew her ticks, her personality, her mannerisms... and that characteristic calmness held just the slightest hint of a crack--one that didn’t go unnoticed by Zaiden. He hummed, moving away to make his way into the ritzy, state-of-the-art kitchen to pour himself a glass of whiskey, falling quiet for a moment.
He opened a fresh bottle of Jack once he found a glass, watching as the amber ale sloshed into it with careful blue eyes. “Everything okay, Princess? You’ve been quiet since our flight.” Zaiden’s tone was just as calm as hers, hardly betraying the concern he knew Brinley would feel even if he didn’t express it. He raised the glass to his lips with a tattooed hand, taking a slow thoughtful sip as his gaze flickered back to her. “I didn’t do something, did I?” It was a light joke, dry and alluding to the ‘pact’ that the pair had made about how nearly everything could be blamed on him if he so wished. He made his way back over to her, sliding the half-drank glass of whiskey onto the countertop of the kitchen island. “Because if I did, you need to tell me.” This time, words were quiet. Genuine. Honest.

& * | NEW YORK CITY was home for the dark-haired man; the arching skyscrapers, the busy streets, the City That Never Sleeps... it was all etched into his memory permanently. Midland was a far cry from the bustling borough of Manhattan and if Zaiden were being honest to himself, he was damn ecstatic about leaving that godforsaken town behind. It was too quiet, too spaced out for his liking--and though the Hendricks twins had momentarily debated setting an office up in Dallas for convenience, they chose a whole new route instead.
Buying Brinley her freedom was the only decision Zaiden found himself content with. Dropping a large amount of cash wasn’t something he was unfamiliar with in general--and if it was for her, then who was he to complain? The three and a half hour flight back to his city was that of a relief--complete with private airline to avoid the trouble of something like American or Delta. His arm remained firmly around Brinley’s slim hips during the taxi ride to his Upper East Side penthouse--and as the elevator doors slid open, he ushered her inside. “Welcome to my home, Princess.” Zaiden drawled out with a mild smirk. He knew he talked quite a great deal about his penthouse--but having Brinley here instead of at the Bates-issued cabins for the masters was something completely different.
He paused to press a soft kiss to the side of her head, stepping away to shrug off his jacket. “So feel free to settle in. I think Zacharie and Julia already split off to put their things away. Do you want anything to drink? Wine? Champagne? Water?” Zade’s tone was casual, as if he wasn’t somewhat unsure of how to broach the elephant of the room--her freedom and what that meant for them.

There was something so comfortable about the nights that Evangeline was able to spend at Zades penthouse with him. She loved the comfort of his bed and the feeling of his arms around her as she drifted off to sleep. Curled into his side she knew better than the interrupt him when he was obviously working but she’d finished the book she had brought with her. The novel having been assigned in one of her classes not one that she would have picked up herself. She just wanted a little bit of attention and she knew exactly how to get it now. Shifting enough, still curled into his side, to get her older boyfriends attention.
Evangeline fought back the yawn that threatened to escape as Zade asked her if she was sleepy. Shaking her head as she pulled herself up into a sitting position looking up at him with a sweet smile. Evangeline knew that it was almost bedtime, even without Zade reminding her but she wasn’t exactly interested in going to bed just yet. “Is it?” She said as innocently as she could, still flashing him that sweet smile. “I’m not really tired though,” She tacked on with a shrug as if that was all the reason she needed to stay up and not go to bed yet.
Zaiden exhaled a quiet sigh as Evan insisted that she wasn’t tired. Closing his laptop, the dark-haired man set it aside before letting a tattooed arm wrap around the girl’s waist. She was light and willowy, all long limbs and delicacy--something that often caused Zaiden to hold her delicately, as if she was fragile and breakable. She was so much smaller than him, younger and more youthful--but that was part of what drew him in so much. She was innocence embodied--even when she protested about the rules he set out for her. Brows quirked as he fixed her with a stern but calm look, guiding Evan into his lap. “Kitten,” he murmured, his voice quiet but calm as a hand drifted up to cup her face. “You know you need to get some sleep. Bedtime is bedtime, right?” He punctuated the question by pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
“What do we need to do to get you a bit more tired, kitten?” His words would normally be accompanied by a smirk and a double meaning--but right now, getting Evan to sleep (and get the amount of rest she needed) was more important than late-night sex. "Would you like to take a bath?”

Zacharie Hendricks was definitely the more tolerable of the two Hendricks brothers. At least as far as Illyssa was concerned. It was probably part of the reason she’d started dating the younger brother to begin with. She’d known the two boys her entire life, from play dates to preschool they had always been part of the same group.
Zaiden was known for sleeping with anything that would spread their legs for him, and Illyssa was known for rolling her eyes at him. Which was exactly what she was doing right now as he sashayed his way into the kitchen.“Champagne,” she replied briskly as she tapped out a message to her missing boyfriend, just trying to get a handle on his whereabouts and just how long was she going to have to entertain his brother.
“Sometimes I think you try to get caught by Gossip Girl when you go out.”She commented her voice teasing as she placed her phone down on the counter. “I’m sure you get some kind of sick thrill having her out youractivities to all of Manhattan. No such thing as bad press? Isn’t that what they say?”
He watched Illyssa out of the corner of his eye, stifling his smirk as he noted the way she was tapping out yet another text--to his brother, no doubt. Zaiden merely focused on selecting a bottle of champagne and pulling out a glass for her, humming in response as he poured it out. “I love having people say my name,” he drawled out in amusement, his tone nothing if not oozing with arrogance as he glanced up at her. His smirk broadened as he slid the glass of champagne over to the brunette, one brow quirked. He returned to his glass of whiskey, taking a slow sip and tilting his head just slightly to let his gaze wander over the girl standing before him. Zaiden was never the sort to shy away from a beautiful woman--and in spite of all the history, he wasn’t going to deny that Illyssa was nothing if not a fine piece of ass. He knew better than to say anything, but that didn’t stop him from gazing at her with more than just a friendly smile.
He merely raised his glass to his lips, blue eyes wandering back up to meet hers. “And she doesn’t out anything; it’s not like I’m hiding anything, Illyssa. Everyone already knows what type of ‘activities,’ as you put it, I’m interested in.” A light scoff punctuated his words as he smirked once more. He adjusted the silk robe to stay on as he gave a shake of his head. “Where’s Julia?” He asked curiously; the question was innocent enough, but Zaiden knew the double meaning behind it--even if it was lost on Illyssa.

Dating a Hendricks had its ups and it’s downs. And most of it, one just adjusted to. Paparazzi, seeing your picture on magazine stands, and hundreds of thousands (at least) more followers on Twitter and YouTube. Fee got used to it quickly. She kind of loved it, and it showed even when she was rolling her eyes at paparazzi’s or fighting with Twitter trolls. It was energizing for her, and pushed her into hardening her once too soft exterior. Plus, how could she not love it when she got to attention things like Fashion Week in Milan?! She joked that Zaiden was the best boyfriend in the world for treating her to such extravagant trips and experiences, but truly it was more than that which had drawn her to him to begin with. And if anything, the list of his admirable and lovable traits had grown since then.
Fee wished that she could say that she noticed the signs and got a feeling as to what was going to happen today. But really, she didn’t. She noticed that he seemed distracted, but after asking him once if he was doing alright and getting a positive response, she gave up on questioning him and figured that maybe he was just tired, or bored, or… Something. She was a little enthralled in all that was Fashion Week, though Zaiden had taken her to other ones before and many things similar to it. It was nothing new, and yet she never lost her interest and excitement about it. That was obvious from how she babbled on even though Zaiden wasn’t really even listening.
“This manicure is really holding up well this week. I thought I’d have to get them done again while we were here, but I really don’t think I’ll need to. And I’m getting compliments about them all over the place. The woman in–” “Babydoll,” Zade’s voice was soft, even, and calm. That didn’t keep her from getting annoyed that he’d interrupted her, a fact that she simply tucked into her mind for argument sake at some point in the future. He asked about the gift from Cartiers, and she paused, freeing her hand from around his arm to fish in the small bag for the extra box they’d tucked into it. It was sleek, white, with golden trim. She held it out for Zade, a curious look on her face, though she forced a smile through it. “This one?”
“Yes, that one.” Zaiden forced his voice to remain calm. Neutral. Collected. He wasn’t keen on letting anything tip the small brunette off just yet; everything about this had to be orchestrated perfectly, after all. This was do or die--and if he fucked this up, he was sure that he would never quite forgive himself for it. He took the small box from Fee’s delicate hands, turning it over in his own tattooed ones. Blue eyes flickered down to rest on the small white box, noting the golden trim absently before making a mental note to make a personal call and thank the boutique for the praise-worthy decor of the container they selected for him. He knew that nestled inside the box was the ring he had spent months picking out with his brother. Zac had complained all too often that Zade’s tastes were too particular; this band too thick, the diamonds not shiny enough, too gaudy for Felicia’s delicate and dainty features. It was a neverending battle but at some point, he had found the perfect ring for her.
Zaiden cleared his throat, finding himself falling victim to nerves for a split second before letting his gaze slowly slide up to rest on her once again. “I apologize, I really didn’t mean to cut you off,” he began coolly, letting his typical smirk cross his features in one last attempt at keeping himself together before finally letting his hands grasp the box properly this time. For a second, he was sure the entire world was going to stop by some random clause of catastrophic consequence--but perhaps that was simply his dramatic tendencies getting the better of him. Nonetheless, Zaiden finally drew in a slow breath and sank down onto one knee, opening the box up in his hands and holding it up, letting the sunlight catch in the glittering diamonds of the engagement ring.
“Felicia Chiela, you are undoubtedly the love of my life. You deserve so much more than I can give you. You’re beautiful, smart, funny, witty as all hell, and you keep me on my toes every single day. I know I’ve fucked up more times than I can count, but you’re still standing here by my side and that... means more than words can ever explain. I love you so much, Babydoll, and it would be an honor to one day be able to call you my wife... So will you marry me, Fee?”

Blaise smiled as Zade reminded him that they still had another week before his wife would be home. Another week and they would have to go back to sneaking around, fucking in Zade’s office, in his car, anywhere that they wouldn’t get caught. It wasn’t that Blaise minded the sneaking around, it was thrilling in its own way, but there was also something so comfortableabout being in bed with Zade like this. He couldn’t really explain it but there was definitely something there.
“Yeah, both of those sound good to me.” He said after a moment before pulling back to gaze down at him. He was in no hurry to actually get up though no matter how good breakfast sounded right about now. He wanted to spend as much time like this as he could, even with a week left. “I could cook again if you want,” he offered shifting and getting comfortable, curling into the older man’s side with a sigh, his hand finding Zade and just lacing their fingers together. The gesture was simple, but still there was a sense of intimacy as Blaise’s fingers twined with Zade’s.
The older man gave a quiet chuckle, squeezing Blaise’s hand in his own. The action was subtle but intimate, as if to remind the brunette that this moment was theirs for now. “I think that’s in everyone’s best interest here; I’d burn the entire place down if I was in charge of making breakfast.” His joke was dry but the way his lips curled up at the corners was genuine, affection lighting up the blue of his eyes. He leaned in to press a gentle kiss to Blaise’s temple before shifting, moving to sit upright on the bed.
“Come on, let’s go downstairs? After freshening up a bit of course.” His tone was light--and for the first time, Zaiden could feel himself truly experience something he hadn’t felt in a while--happiness. “I’m sure I have eggs in the fridge. Maybe even some pancake mix.”
blxise-b
“Zade…” Blaise physically drew back as Zade snapped at him. He did his best not to look away from those cold blue eyes as Zade fixed him with a glare. He wasn’t trying to say that Zade was incapable though he knew that’s exactly how the raven-haired man was taking it.
Especially from you.
Flinching again Blaise swallowed the lump in his throat his hands falling to his sides, biting his lip to keep from saying anything else as he watched Zade shift. The pain was evident on the other man’s face and just taking him in right now was enough to break Blaise, if he hadn’t already been broken by this entire ordeal. He’d never meant for things to get like this, the lastthing he wanted was for Zade to get hurt like this. Stepping back as Zade took a drink from the glass he’d given him Blaise stopped when he saw the bloom of red start to spread out from one of the bandages.
“Zade please, you’re bleeding.” Blaise tried again tentatively taking a step forward and gently trying to force the injured assassin into the seat next to him. “I’m sorry, I–I never meant for this to happen.” He said softly though he knew that Zade didn’t really care about what he had to say. “I’m not trying to pity you, I just don’t want to see you hurt yourself.”
Zade’s jaw clenched tightly together, causing the muscle of it to jump tensely as he bit back a low, unamused growl. His hold on the edge of the countertop tightened fractionally, knuckles going white in spite of the touch of scarlet blooming against the gauze wrapped around him. He could feel the familiar sting of stitches splitting--but he would be damned if he let himself cry over something as meager as a cut. He didn’t bother with a response, simply falling into frosty silence as Blaise guided him into a seat, biting back a low groan as the movement caused the stitches to prick once again.
Blaise’s next wrods, however, pulled a bitter chuckle from the dark-haired man. “I told you to listen to me.” Zade’s words were cold. Calm. Collected. No a shred of emotion bleeding into his tone as cool blue eyes slid over to rest on the brunette. “I told you that things would be dangerous, but you were too stubborn, too childish to listen to me when I warned you.” Zaiden didn’t bother with sugar coating his words; he had been babying and doting on the other man for as long as they’ve known each other--but if Blaise wouldn’t heed his warnings, he couldn’t continually do this. “Sorry doesn’t heal wounds. Not in this world. Apologies are empty and they don’t mean anything. A sorry won’t revive a person if someone winds up dead.” He knew the reality of it all was harsh--but Blaise needed to hear this. His voice was hard, almost unforgiving as he held Blaise’s gaze.
“Keep that in mind next time I tell you something. Given that there is a next time.”

Blaise didn’t hide the way his eyes roamed over his boyfriend’s bare arms as Zade took off his jacket, shifting and getting up from his seat walking around to the other side of the desk. “I could always use a pick me up, that’s true.” Leaning against the edge with a smirk he looked between the two just waiting for one or the other to make that first move. It was all about who was going to crack first and Blaise wasn’t going to let it be him. Not this time. “Just what sort of entertainment did the two of you have in mind?”
Zacharie laughed as he watched Blaise come around from behind his desk, stepping forward and closing the space between them. “I think it’s pretty obvious Blaise,” he drawled with an amused smirk glancing at his brother again. “Aren’t you always telling us that we work a little too hard? We’re only returning the favor. We just don’t want to see you over workyourself.” He added with a smug looking shrug, running a hand through his hair. As if he wasn’t all that interesting in Blaise’s answer, though they all knew that he wanted this just as much as they did.
Blue eyes slid from his brother to his lover, mild amusement flickering in the depths of his irises. His smirk was muted and subtle, hip resting against the edge of the desk as he surveyed the exchange. He merely gave a slight nod of his head as Zac stepped closer to Blaise, content with watching the two of them interact for now. Zaiden had always been the one initiating things of this nature--but he had become more and more comfortable with his brother getting personal with Blaise; there was a level of trust and understanding between the three of them, after all. “He has a point, babe.” Zade drawled after a moment, his tone calm and more of an afterthought tacked onto Zac’s original comment. Content with letting Zac take the reigns for now, Zaiden merely arched a brow and relaxed where he was against the desk.

It wasn’t as if Zaiden Hendricks was any stranger to sex. No, if anything, sex was the one thing the blue-eyed man could use like a weapon more than anything. Growing up in the heart of the Big Apple meant he was constantly surrounded by warm bodies and before he was even in highschool, Zaiden found himself tangled up with boys much too old for him. It was a bad habit, an addiction that he never quite grew out of--and even now, with an international corporation at his fingertips and his twin brother all but ruling it at his side, he couldn’t quite shake it.
Zaiden was nothing if not a strategist--and when posed with executive decisions, his decisive attitude helped him scheme up whatever would work in his best interest. The shareholders, investors, and potential business partners were all an open book--lonely, needy older men with a craving. Old 50-somethings with dead-end marriages and three children were the easiest. They wanted a change, something to make them feel alive. They wanted to feel in control of their lives and they wanted a body to help with that. All it took was an accidental stray touch, a well-timed laugh and the implication of more--and the deal was made.
His brother often told him that using sex to clinch a business deal wasn’t really necessary--but they both knew it made the entire ordeal easier. Especially if blackmail was involved. Fooling men already trapped in their midlife crisis into fucking him and using it as blackmail was all but second-nature. All it took was one phonecall, one promise to call their wife and tell them exactly what happened--and the deal was made then and there. He’d done this too many times to count--but there were always nights that were harder than others.
For once, Zaiden didn’t even wait till the morning after to call up an uber. The ungodly hour didn’t deter him from dragging himself into his ride, relaying the address to his Upper East Side penthouse before slumping into silence. He was tired, worn-out, and disgusted. His skin was still crawling and all he wanted was a hot shower. Everything seemed to move in slow motion--even the digital numbers in the elevator and the way the metal doors slid open. He knew it was well past 3 AM--no normal human being was supposed to be up at this hour--but that didn’t stop Zaiden from yanking off his tie and throwing it aside, blazer following suit, before making his way into the kitchen to pour himself a glass of whiskey. He had half a mind to gulp down the alcohol straight from the bottle, but he forced himself through the motions of finding the right glass from the cabinet and pour the amber liquid into it. He didn’t even register the sound of footsteps--not until the sound of his brother’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts, forcing his tired blue eyes to snap up and look at him.
“You should be sleeping.”

Milan at the height of Fashion Week was an experience Zaiden Hendricks often found himself enthralled with. High fashion, luxury designers, and amenities that only the richest of the rich could afford--it was everything the elder of the Hendricks pair prized. He had all but grown accustomed to the flashing lights of he paparazzi swarming around himself and his girlfriend each time they stepped out of the five-star hotel he had booked for their stay. A glitzy Rolex on his wrist and even more beautiful girl on his arm--it was all picture-perfect. Felicia Chiela was undoubtedly the love of his life--from her warm brown eyes and bubbly laughter to the way she looked at him every time they woke up next to each other in their king-sized bed, she was perfect.
The couple had their ups and downs--but Zaiden had tried his hardest over the past two years to fix himself up to be the man Felicia deserved. He wasn’t perfect--far from it, with his wild party antics and almost condescending persona--but he was trying, and the only thing he wanted was for Fee to be with him. He had spent weeks planning this trip--from purchasing VIP tickets to every show cropping up in Milan to finding the most perfect ring to convincing his brother to make arrangements with the high-end boutique where he wanted the ring planted--and so far, it seemed as if everything was going on without a hitch.
Zaiden wasn’t the sort of man who got nervous; he exuded confidence in every bit of his being, from the way he held his head high and let a smirk grace his lips--but for once in his life, the dark-haired young man could feel his heart pounding. Tattooed fingers laced with Fee’s thin ones as they traipsed their way through the Italian park. He could hear Fee babbling about something or another and he hummed along thoughtfully--though his mind was far from their current conversation. Ice blue eyes sought out the crowds in the area before his gaze snapped back to the brunette. “Babydoll,” he murmured, not quite noticing how he cut the brunette off mid-sentence. “Do you think I could see that gift you received from Cartier?” Zaiden forced his voice to remain calm and even, refusing to betray the anxious nerves settling in the pit of his stomach. It was now or never--and he needed to bite the bullet.
