Important author’s note:

The Road Ahead is a sequel to The Rescue, my 15x19 fix-it fic in which Dean goes into the Empty to rescue Castiel.

While it’s possible to enjoy The Road Ahead without having read The Rescue, these two fics very much go hand in hand—they’re intended as replacements for 15x19 and 15x20, and I view them as two episodes that should be read one after the other, just as you’d watch episodes of the show.

For the best possible reading experience, I suggest rewatching 15x18, and strongly recommend reading (or re-reading) The Rescue shortly before beginning The Road Ahead.

I thought I’d fixed the Supernatural finale by writing The Rescue, but then I quietly spent 3 years, 8 months, and 15 days writing The Road Ahead.

The epilogue sequel to The Rescue is FINISHED!!!

And you know, I thought about making a "my hand slipped" joke.

But the truth is, I worked on this fic for longer than it took me to complete my university degree. I had a complete outline for it even before my posting day for The Rescue. It was a whole year before I could begin writing it, and then it took me 3 years, 8 months, and 15 days to complete my draft and self-edits.

(It also took me 45,000 words to figure out that I was in fact writing a sequel, and not an epilogue. Yes, it's okay to laugh at me about that.)

I wrote a 59k fix-it for 15x19, and then I wrote a 110k fix-it for 15x20. I've been working on fixing the finale since April 2021, and 169,000 words and more than 5 years later... I'm almost done!

I can't begin to describe how excited I am to start posting this baby 😄

For now, I'm just so happy to finally, finally share that it exists! 🥲

Instead of finishing one of my already existing WIPs I drew this instead lol

I’ve been obsessed with the x-ray of Dean’s ribs since first seeing that episode. (In drawing this piece I’ve discovered how anatomically inaccurate that scan in the show is lmao)

In my attempt to make the ribs a little more anatomically accurate I didn’t have enough room for the original enochian sigils so I made my own hehe
