The thing about the argument about Eddie’s sexuality is that in reality it doesn’t really matter if Eddie was or wasn’t into boys, especially when talking about the book.

Eddie was called homophobic slurs just because he was seen as frail and weak and so “less of a man” by people like Henry. Eddie was an outcast because he was perceived as feminine and, at the time, that was a synonym of being queer.

Eddie wasn’t dealing with internalized homophobia, he was dealing with actual homophobia. It didn’t matter if he actually liked men, the things is that people in Derry believed so and because of that they made his life a living hell.

He liked Bill because he didn’t care about what people said about him or his sexuality, but treated him like a normal kid. EVEN RICHIE CLEARLY TREATED HIM DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE OF THAT.

That is why he was especially disturbed hearing Adrian Mellon’s story. HE COULD HAVE BEEN THAT GUY BEATEN TO DEATH BECAUSE SOME BOYS HATED QUEER PEOPLE.

So yeah, him being called slurs holds a completely different meaning in the novel than Richie in the 2019 movie being called the same things. Richie was a victim of homophobia because he flirted with men and Henry was disgusted by that, Eddie was called those names because he was more effeminate than your average guy in the 1950s.

Eddie seemed gay, Richie was gay.
