Love for Harry Potter. Late bloomers don't care!
It was early May when I expected that in the following weeks I will be pretty unoccupied (and bored) because school year's about to end. Duties are mostly consolidation of reports and proctoring students during exams.
I once did a hunt in our school library and searched for interesting novels to read. However, there were very few options to choose from. 90% of the books on the section I was raiding are written in Thai, and I cannot read Thai. :-/ I scanned the books with English titles, but nothing stirred my interest, except this Harry Potter thingy.
Well I was not really a fan of this. I've been hearing about the movie since I was in 5th grade, when my classmates used to call me "Hermae-ony" and I really don't know where did they got it and they just said about this movie. So, okay. This movie exists. But only up to that point. Just awareness.
HP has been very pop for so many years, and I remember watching only one of the movie series. I remember it was the only 'interesting' movie from the other options that time. And guess what, I watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. And guess what, I watched the Part 2. :)) And you must know, I don't really get the whole story. Creation of movie is awesome, but I do not know who the characters are, so I didn't really appreciate it.
Until early May, as I was saying. Don't know where I got the urge to take out one HP book and scan its pages. I personally don't prefer reading science fiction/fantasy, I go for inspirational/realistic ones. But I did it. I told myself that I would just give it a try. So I got the Harry Potter book which says "Year 1."
First chapter was hilarious. I can't believe that it was too good to read. J.K. Rowling got the perfect level of humor to tickle her readers. I just understood now why a lot of people are going gaga over HP. I finished HP and the Sorcerer's Stone quite quick, and immediately borrowed "Year 2" book which is the HP and the Chamber of Secrets.
I rechecked in the library that the seven HP books are all complete. So glad to know about this, realizing that I can borrow the next one when I'm already done with one.
I am currently reading HP and the Goblet of Fire. (Poor little Harry who's got so much sufferings at his 4th year T__T) Loving the characters even more, not only Harry but Ron and Hermione as well :)
After reading the book, I watch the movie version as well (and gets disappointed, haha JK!) Film series are great also! ;)
I knowwww, it's 2014 and I'm just starting to love it. So what? Late bloomers don't care. <3
My current fave shirt (though it's big for me haha)
Meet me at the hotel
As part of my class' (when I say 'class' I mean the one that I assist in handling, I'm a teaching assistant, remember? ;)) practical duty in real hotel, we go to Dusit Thani Hotel Bangkok once a week, that's every Wednesday. Students are assigned to different sub-departments in Front Office and they perform specific tasks. I usually pretend to be a guest and ask them random stuff :P
But most of the times, I just sit there and observe business people walk and pass by and feel the hotel atmosphere. I love the serenity of this task. It's not that I just chill the whole time and learn zero by the end of the day. NO. I love how work silently and realizes a lot of things during my observation. I have so many things in mind, srsly.
So it's Dusit Thani Hotel Bangkok, which they call Dusit Silom, because the hotel has many other branches but this one is situated at Silom Road. Silom is the business center in BKK, and I feel like a business person when I cross the streets, ehem :) Basically, this hotel brings the Thai ambiance.
What adds to the environment is this Thai lady on barefoot who plays the 'khim'. I didn't know at first that the melody I hear is actually live. It's so nice! :) Thanks to Arj. Jongjit for this photo ;)
What's new about my experience is what happened on the most recent Wednesday. After 1000-1500hrs for assisting Front Office class, I was invited to attend this seminar-lecture thing under Ajarn Thaweedej, who is a Food and Beverage instructor. It was held at the Sathom Hall. The whole thing was about Dusit Thani company, restaurants in Dusit Silom, table settings and manners. (Free dinner, from appetizer to desserts! yeah) But before that, we first had a tour on few restaurants in the hotel. There's a total of 11, if not mistaken, but we visited and observed only 5 of these.
I won't tackle everything but will just highlight my most fave part. :) I was really really really amazed with the restaurant situated at the top-most level of Dusit Silom. It occupies the whole 22nd floor, a French restaurant which they call D'Sens. You can view the beauty of Bangkok from your place.
Notice the aquarium below the table! :)
Stare outside and get a closer look at the city...
I didn't know that there's such a place like this. Suay mak!!! :) ("Very beautiful") Next time that I'll go here, I'll make sure that I'll take an order by then. *wink*
After the familiarization, we went back to Sathom Hall to have our dinner.
Forget about the grammar errors. ;) The food tastes so good! I ate veggies again, and I'm kinda proud. :P Hihi. Overall, it finished at nearly 2000hrs, but who cares? I was bloated. :D More of this next time please? ^.^v And thanks for the invitation! Yeeeey!

Chatuchak Weekend Market
Late blog! :) This happened last week, nung mga panahong kakasweldo lang ginastos ko ang pera sa mga damit. Haha. :P
Our initial plan was to visit Pratunam, but we heard about this "JJ Market", actually the largest market in TH, which is, mas bet yata naming unahin. Uso din daw ang tawaran ;) And everything you need, you'll find there. They call it "JJ" because they read its name as "Jatujak" instead of "Chatuchak". So, there.
We consulted Google map to find our way to go there. I'm used to ride the BTS (Bangkok Mass Transit System) Skytrain so I prefer this more than public buses or sorng taeow (pronounced as "song tew") which is like their jeep in PH.
We started at On Nut Station. Needless to say, I'm with Kristine :)
After around 30 minutes, we reached the last station of BTS which happens to be the nearest to JJ Market, Mo Chit Station. You need few hundred steps to reach to stalls. I encountered a lot of foreigners from different races. Walking down made me feel like I'm only in Baclaran or Divi, hehe. But honestly, it's way way cleaner here.
To get to the main market, you have to turn right, and lots of very affordable stuff will welcome you. I didn't bring a huge amount of money to control myself, hahaha. But I made sure that I'll buy enough to get my needs and pamper myself at the same time. ;)
Ito pala yung sinasabi nila. Independence. It was my first time to have my real "shopping". I mean buying a lot of things using my own money. My first time to select my own clothes, without my mom to ask kung bagay ba sakin yung color or yung style. My first time to budget my money for clothes, shoes, foods and everything. Ganito pala yun. I didn't even realize that I'll be attracted to dresses and skirts. I'm the shirt-jeans-backpack type of girl in the Philippines and I admit to myself that I'm really old-fashioned. Yeah I know. :))) Pero para akong nag-transform. Harhar. Feeling ko nagdadalaga ako dito :""> I'm transforming, in a good way, I guess. :) Of course I have to act my age. Siguro sa loob ko nalang yung pagiging immature, pero sa panlabas, I should act as a lady na. Ansabeh. Haha. Slowly, slowly, I will come to that point. ;)
And I'm improving my eating habits na din. Whether I like it or yes, Thai foods are more of veggies. I have options of what type of food to eat, but its ingredients vary from veggies or veggies or veggies. O diba? :)) Btw here's fried rice with chicken which costs 50 THB. Ang yaman nila sa pang-garnish :D
After eating we went back straight to shopping :) Di ko na pinicturan yung mga binili ko, but I was able to buy a pair of shoes, 3 dresses and 3 tops (for office) and a SpongeBob shirt. Hihi.
While strolling, I randomly saw this boy who plays an instrument. IDK how they call it, but the melody he produced was good. I liked it and dropped him few coins.
I also found a unique ice cream here which costs 30 baht. It's a coconut ice cream wherein you have to eat it in a coconut shell. So cute!
Here's a closer look. Coconut ice cream on a coconut shell, plus peanuts for toppings. There's other toppings to choose from and they will let you pick two more. I chose corn and nata.
Yuuuum! :) And more eye-catching foods around, but I didn't try yet for now. Hihi. Maybe next time.
After 4 or 5 hours of shopping, we decided to go home. Wala na ding pera e, LOL. It was indeed a veeery nice experience! I will surely come back next time, when I get my next salary, probably. Haha.
Thank you JJ Market! Aprub!!
xoxo,
hermae☆
Took me a veeery long time just to write down Thai way of saying hello. No spaces between words at madaming circle circle. Gara eh.
When she is happy, she can’t stop talking, when she is sad she doesn’t say a word.
