College Material
Bobby Franklin x Reader
Plot: Big Brothers Stoner Friend? Yes Please.
Warnings: Weed Smoking, fem solo pleasuring.
The old screen door creaked the same way it always had.. somehow, even after months away at college, nothing had changed.
The porch swing still leaned a little too far to the left, Mom still had the same flower pots lined up beneath the front windows. Dad’s beat up pickup sat in the driveway, even though he wasn’t home. The whole place smelled faintly of cut grass and whatever detergent your mother had used since you were a kid. The faintest smell of pot lingering the hallway, you knew Jacob had to be lurking somewhere.
The front door barely had time to close before that someone yelled. “There she is!” Your older brother, Jacob came barreling out of the living room with the biggest grin you’d seen in months.
He wrapped you in one of those bone crushing hugs older brothers always seemed to give, lifting you up with a spin. “Damn, college hasn’t made you forget us yet.” You slapped his hands, “put me down idiot.” He set you down, taking a good look at you smiling like a maniac.
He stole your suitcase before you could protest. “I’ve got people over.” He moved it away from the door. “Mom and pop went to aunt carols for the night.” He still smiled, like you had just returned from war.
Music drifted through the house something indie and relaxed playing through an old speaker in the kitchen. Laughter spilled from the backyard. “I literally told them I’d be back before noon.” You both walked into the kitchen to the patio doors. “They are getting old, cut them some slack.” He nudged your shoulder playfully as you both stepped outside.
Three guys sat around the patio table with half finished drinks. One looked up from rolling a joint.
Bobby.
Your heart betrayed you immediately.
He looked exactly how you remembered.. Sunlight caught the messy blond hair that never seemed intentionally styled but somehow always looked perfect. A plain white fitted T-shirt stretched across his shoulders, faded shorts, white crew socks and a pair of worn black converse.
A silver chain rested against his collarbone, and his eyes had that permanently relaxed look of someone who never seemed in a rush. He leaned back in his chair, smoke curling lazily into the summer air, now a little older you had to fight the urge to growl at him, respectfully of course.
“Oh, damn.” A slow smile spread across his face. “College girl.”
You laughed. “Hi, Bobby.” He stood, pulling you into a quick hug that smelled faintly of a minty aftershave and weed. God, he’s strong and firm. You first met him when you were 14, he was 18 and swimming in your pool with Jacob.. an awakening on your behalf. Now standing in front of you, a slight hint of stubble on his chin.
“Good to see you.” You looked anywhere, even at the sky following a bird, for the rest of the afternoon, it was comfortable. Jacob and his friends argued over basketball.
Someone burned burgers, someone also set the smoke alarm off.
Bobby occasionally asked you how school was going. “So… psychology?”
“English.” You corrected.
“Right.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “I knew that.” You smiled to yourself, he remembered enough to know you’d left for school. He talked to you the same way he’d always talked to you.
Friendly.
Easy.
Safe, like you were Jacob’ little sister, nothing more. You happily held his conversation well, he told you about trying to get into film school and worked part time at a crappy furniture store. You nodded while he rambled on, he thought you were just politely listening but you were actually discreetly checking him out.
By midnight everyone had drifted inside.
Jacob had long since fallen asleep upstairs after insisting he wasn’t tired.
The house finally settled into silence after a chaotic afternoon, you stared at your bedroom ceiling and checked the clock that ticked silently on the wall.
01:02 a.m.
Jet black outside with a sigh, you climbed out of bed and padded downstairs in an oversized college sweatshirt. Sliding on the smooth floor as always when you reached the bottom step, the kitchen was dark except for the little light above the stove.
You grabbed a glass from the dish rack and headed for the fridge and leaned it gently against the dispenser when the back patio door slid open.
Cold night air rushed inside.
You jumped in the darkness, glass hitting the side of the dispenser with a clunk. “Bobby! You fucking scared me.”
Bobby froze halfway through stepping inside. “Sorry.” He absentmindedly held his hands up before he quietly shut the door behind him. “Didn’t mean to scare you.” He gave you a look, you laughed clutching at the strings of your hoodie. “Scared the shit out of me. Thought you were a robber.”
He chuckled lightly, pulling a barstool out to take a seat his cheeks were pink from the cool night air. “You can’t sleep either?”
You shook your head. “No.”
He held up the half finished joint between two fingers. “Me neither.” You tapped your fingers against the glass, awkwardly. Bobby leaned against the kitchen counter. “So.. how’s college really?”
You shrugged. “It’s good.” You nodded with the words, taking a sip of water.
“The ‘it’s good’ answer usually means it isn’t.” He fiddled with his joint lazily between two fingers, his leg bounced restlessly on the stool.
You smiled into your glass. “It’s… lonely sometimes.”
He nodded. “I get that.”
“You?”
“I’m figuring things out.”
“You always seem like you’ve got life together.” You wondered towards the island, settling the glass down on a coaster leaning against it gently.
He laughed so hard he actually looked away. “Me?”
“Yeah, you.”
“I promise you…” He rubbed a hand over his face. “I absolutely don’t.”
The conversation drifted from there.
Music.
Road trips.
Jacob’s terrible cooking.
The tiny town you’d both been desperate to leave.
Dream jobs.
Favourite movies.
The stars.
He has teased you about having a crush on him when you were younger, embarrassed. “You knew?” You peaked between your fingers while he laughed and nodded, “I remember you wouldn’t leave your room until I left, ducking away from windows when I looked.” He still nodded, “yeah, I knew.” You wanted to die, face red.
An hour disappeared without either of you noticing.
It felt strangely easy, it felt.. nice? As if you were both long time friends that hadn’t been apart, he had you laughing so hard you had to hold your nose to stifle a laugh not to wake the entire house, he’d lean back on the chair covering his face with his hands also trying not to laugh.
Eventually Bobby glanced toward the stairs, wiping the tears from his eyes. “I should let you sleep.”
“Yeah, i probably should.” You got up from the stool before you did, he sat lazily with his arms crossed looking at you carefully as he smiled. “Night.”
“Night, Bobby.”
You practically floated back up the stairs to your room, hand brushing the banister slowly. Thinking to yourself maybe he’d finally started seeing you as something other than Jacob’ kid sister.
You climbed back beneath the covers, heart oddly light, thinking over the conversation. How he looked? How he sounded. The unmistakable throb between your legs, embarrassing. You cursed yourself silently shifting around a bed that no longer felt like your own. Hand absentmindedly travelling south, pulling the jumper up slightly to allow room to manoeuvre your hand between your legs and under your panties. One small brush, it was all you needed to part your legs further apart. Free hand reaching up to grip the headboard, his name falling from your lips as you brushed slow careful circles around yourself then it happened..
A small tap at the door, unknown excitement bloomed in your chest but also panic set in. Had you carelessly made a noise too loud? All you heard was the blood flowing in your ears. You slowly got off the bed and opened the door just a fraction.
Bobby, he stood outside your door. Heart racing. He held the glass of water you left downstairs and held it out to. “Just incase you get thirsty through the night.” Oh, am thirsty alright.
“Thank you.” You couldn’t look at him as you took the glass, almost spilling its contents with how fast you pulled it back into the room. Bobby nodded once and smiled slightly and walked away, the guest room he took just opposite yours.
“Goodnight.” He spoke softly. “Don’t be quiet.” He added the last part as the door closed completely. You just stared at the door, unable to move. Heat rushed to your face. Oh my God.

Shawn’s mouth crashed against yours, one hand gripping your jaw while the other slid beneath the hem of your shirt, lifting it up and over your head like it was the easier thing he’d done today.
There was nothing gentle or patient about him, you’d met three months ago at a bar, fucked that same night, and settled into an arrangement neither of you bothered pretending was anything more than sex.
No dates.
No sleepovers.
No expectations.
“You think too much,” Shawn muttered, stealing another kiss.
“You’ve said that before.”
“Because it’s still true.”
You rolled your eyes, pulling him back by the collar of his T-shirt before he could smirk about it, his hands are all over you sitting half naked on his lap, his jeans are unbuckled and hanging down half way, the room already beginning to heat up from you both pressured together going all hot and heavy.
The front door opened, neither of you heard it until a man’s voice echoed from the foyer. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”
Shawn didn’t even flinch, he pulled away just enough to glance toward the hallway. “You’re back.”
Heavy footsteps approached.
A tall man rounded the corner, shrugging off his coat, He looked like he’d walked straight out of a boardroom compared to Shawn who dressed normally in a casual graphic T-shirt and jeans.
He stopped.
His eyes landed on Shawn, then on you, then back to Shawn. You climbed off his lap and pulled a pillow to cover your chest. Pulling up your legs not to reveal your panties.
“I leave you alone for one night and you drag one home.”
Shawn shrugged. “You were supposed to be out.”
“I was.” He tossed his keys on to the coffee table. “Until she informed me the moon landing was filmed in Arizona.”
He rubbed a hand over his face. “I paid the bill and fucking left.”
Only then did he look at you again while you hid away, just a long, unapologetic stare.
“So…” His voice was flat. “You’re tonight’s entertainment.”
You raised an eyebrow. “You always talk about people like they aren’t in the room?”
“I don’t see why I’d wait until they leave.”
Shawn laughed quietly. “Told you.”
Aerion ignored him. “Does she know?”
“Know what?” you asked.
“That you’ll ghost her by Tuesday.”
Shawn leaned back against the sofa. “I don’t ghost.”
“You absolutely do.”
“I stop replying.”
“Exactly.”
You looked between them. “I can speak for myself.”
Aerion’s gaze settled on you. “I wasn’t asking you to.” His eyes locked with the pillow you held tightly, he reached into his trouser pocket for a packet of cigarettes and snatched the lighter from the coffee table sparking it up. He pointed with the cigarette between his fingers, “quite hiding. You don’t have anything special.”
Silence.
“You’ve got an attitude.”
“I’ve got standards.”
“Funny.”
“I wasn’t trying to be.” He took step out the room, flicking the light on to the kitchen and grabbing himself a beer from the fridge when he came back.
“You can save yourself the speech, by the way.”
“What speech?”
“The one where you tell yourself you’re different.” He slipped his watch from his wrist, placing it carefully on the table unlike the keys that he flung. “You’re not.”
You folded your arms, the pillow still held tightly in place. “You don’t know anything about me.”
“I know you’re on my sofa about to fuck my half brother.” His eyes flicked briefly toward Shawn. “That tells me enough.”
Shawn stood, stretching lazily. “You two done?”
Aerion looked at him. “I was done the second I walked through the door.” Then looked back at you without breaking eye contact with you, he said, “When you’re finished riding him? lock the door behind you.” A beat. “actually.. I don’t care which one of you leaves first.”
He took a seat on the opposite chair, slouched and relaxed. Beer in one hand, cigarette in the other with his head gently tipped back.
Shawn, grabbing his keys from the table. “I’m heading out.”
You blinked. “Now?” He looked at you, then looked at your discarded shirt across the room, you had hoped he might grab it for you. He did not.
“Yeah.”
No apology, no explanation. Just… yeah.
Fucking asshole you called him mentally as he headed for the door.
Aerion called after him. “You forgot your guest.”
Shawn pulled the door open. “She knows where the door is.” The door shut behind him, silence.
You stared at it for a second.
“Well.” Aerion sipped his beer, a smug look of being correct.. you’d be ghosted.
“Told you.” He got up with a grunt and headed back into the kitchen, leaving you alone. You glanced at the doorway and reached for your shirt, fingers unable to reach it as he returned with another bottle. Snapping back up, pillow in place.
“So…” he held out the cool bottle, the faintest hint of a smirk on his face. “Are you leaving? or are you gonna prove my first impression wrong?”
He held your glaze long enough that most people would’ve looked away, you didn’t. You let the pillow slip down slightly, giving him a view from above as you leaned forward to take the bottle from between his fingers.
Slowly taking his time, his gaze drifted over you without shame. You should’ve been uncomfortable instead, it sent a warmth crawling up your spine.
He was handsome.
Infuriatingly so.
Sharp jaw.
Silver hair still slightly messy from the wind outside his tie hung loose around his neck, the top buttons of his shirt undone from a date that clearly hadn’t gone to plan.
“You keep staring,” you said quietly.
“You keep giving me something to look at.” The words weren’t flirtatious, they were a matter of fact. You knew what you were doing, he is smart enough to know. He kept looking as he sat down, getting himself comfortable.
You folded one leg beneath you, leaning back not caring for the pillow anymore, letting it slide wherever it felt. “I thought I was just Shawn’s entertainment.”
“You were.”
“And now?”
A corner of his mouth barely moved. “You can be my entertainment.” You watched him push himself away from the sofa moving at an unhurried pace, stopping opposite you. “I expected tears.” He cupped your chin in his hand, you pulled back and frowned. “From me?”
“Most women would’ve left the second Shawn walked out.”
“I’m not most women.”
“I noticed.” His eyes searched yours again, trying to work you out. “You don’t embarrass easily.” You leaned back, half naked, exposed to his glaze.
“No.”
“You should.”
“I’ve never seen the point.”
A quiet scoff escaped him. “You’ve got bad taste.”
“In men?”
“In general.”
“You included?”
“Especially me.” The honesty caught you off guard, if anything, he seemed determined to make sure you disliked him.
“You look disappointed,” you said.
“I am.”
“Because your date went badly?”
He looked at you for a moment before answering. “Because she spent the entire evening pretending to be someone she wasn’t.”
“And you think I’m not?”
“I think…” He paused, considering you. “you enjoyed arguing with me more than kissing Shawn.”
A smile tugged at your lips. “Maybe.”
His gaze dropped to your mouth for the briefest moment, bent down trapping you between him and sofa with his arms at either side of you. “So,” he said quietly. “Are you staying because Shawn left…” Another pause. “or because I came home?” His hand lifted just enough to brush a loose strand of hair back from your face. You didn’t flinch at the feeling of him touching your skin, you watched his face carefully as he followed his fingers.
“Are you going to stop pretending you don’t know exactly what’s going through my head?” You asked him, his eyes locked with yours.. the blue gone, replaced with black. He almost looked angry, almost.
When the door shut to the bedroom, Aerion sat you down on the edge of the bed. His fingers gently massaged your shoulders while he stood in front of you, you closed your eyes and rolled them softly, head going side to side enjoying the feeling of him touching you. You couldn’t remember how you got here so quick, all you remember was him kissing you and pulling to your feet, crashing into every wall and surface without breaking contact until you found his room.
“You know.” He started. “We haven’t discussed what we enjoy.” You looked up at him while he looked down, you thought about what you liked and disliked, how you wanted him to touch you, how to fuck you. He thought about the exact same thing only, he did have a few peculiars that he found enjoyable.
“I like..” you blushed, biting your bottom lip. “I like having my thighs grabbed.” You took his wrist and gave it a squeeze as hard as you could, “like.. really hard.” He nodded as if he was writing a mental note in his head, taking the information in. “I’m an eater.” He confirmed, making you blush. You scratched the side of your neck nervously, “I like hanging my head off the edge of the bed.” His fingers squeezed, a small groan rumbled up his chest. “I’ve not tried that one.” You laughed sheepishly. His hands now found the sides of your arms, nails brushing slowly to cause goosebumps.
He leaned down, arms either side of your thighs making the bed dip down under his weight as he maintained eye contact. “I like..” he licked his lips, “I’d like to bend you over.” You placed your face in your hands, he removed them and held them on your lap. “Don’t go shy on me now.” His mouth found your ear, nose brushing the lobe as he licked up your neck slowly, dragging it out. “I like to be spanked.” His hands made fists, gripping the sheets. He lowered down to his knees, finding your thighs and gripping them hard, you tried to close them to find a pressure to satisfy the throb but he pulled them apart.
“Can I taste you?” He asked so politely, he didn’t resemble the man who walked into the room and insulted you on first glance. Swallowing hard, you nodded. His left hand stayed gripping on your thigh, his right slid its way up to your chest, pushing you to lay down on the bed. He brought it back satisfied when you were flat and held both hips and pulled you closer to his face at the edge. You looked at the ceiling, panting and waiting.. waiting for him to do something then he did it.
He hooked a finger on your panties and pulled them to one side, you nearly pulled back at the sensation of the cold air reaching you but it was quickly replaced by his hot breath. His tongue slid up, lazily as if he was tasting you as a meal. “ohh!” You whimpered out, he took your left leg and draped it over his shoulder, you locked it in place while your hands found his hair. The sound of your wetness in his mouth filled the room, Aerion almost sounded like he was growling into a meal. “fUCK!” You pulled his hair, looking down with your brows furrowed. He was already looking up, not breaking eye contact. The blues of his eyes had been replaced by dilated pupils, pure black. His left arm had been hooked around your right thigh, fingers digging in. He wiggled his tongue against your nerve making you sink your head back down.. hands finding your chest to grasp at your own breasts, hips arching and rolling into his mouth as he worked frantically to bring you closer and closer and closer just to stop.
You looked down with a painful expression, why had he stopped? He stood between your legs, using the back of his hand to wiped his face. “Why did you stop?” You tried not to pant between words. Aerion smiled, looking down. You followed his eyes, he is painfully hard inside his own boxers.
You hadn’t seen him naked and were excited to see what he had waiting for you. His fingers found his own waistband then stopped, he looked at you again. “Another thing I like..” he reached for the back of your head, pulling you close. “I like to be in control, nod if you understand.” You frowned and blinked, did he want to dominate me? You quickly thought but the throb between your legs got the best of you and you nodded frantically before asking what that included. “Good girl.” His fingers found your chin, making you look at him properly. In the low light, he looked like his brother only more confident and in control. He wanted to take his time rather than a quickie in the backseat of his truck.
‘Good girl.’ You had gone, goodbye and good fucking luck. “Take off my boxers.” He didn’t ask, he commanded you. You moved from the bed and to your knees, fingers finding the band and pulling slowly. “ah ah.” He shook his finger, stopping you from moving. “I don’t want you to look away, not once. You look away and I’ll spank you. Understand?” You bit your lip, a small whimper escaped and you nodded. You didn’t break eye contact as you pulled them down, showing no sign of being nervous or anxious. Low and behold, he stood hard in front of your eyes.
He wasn’t overly large, just an average man and an average length although he is thick, he stands strong. The tip angry and plump, “tell me you like it.” You gulp before speaking, wondering where to look other than his length. “I love it Aerion.” You looked up to his eyes, surely that was allowed. His mouth had parted, his hair slightly messy. The silver shinned in the low light, standing out.
“Good girl.” Every time he said it, your stomach did a flip. “Touch it.” You reached up a hand, thinking for a second as it might be a bit dry so you locked eyes with him and met his freak, you spat into the palm of his hand and gripped him. He closed his eyes and threw his head back, a small “yes.” Escape from him in form of a rattle up his chest. You pumped his length with one hand, surprising him slightly when you decided to use two hands as if you were churning butter. His hands found your hair, tugging slightly. You could feel yourself dripping on to your calves, trying to roll your hips for some friction.
“You’re amazing.” He praised you politely, you continued moving your hands straight from the base up to the tip and slowly back down again. Each one causing a new noise for you to learn. You pumped him harder and faster, bringing closer to his edge. He quickly pulled himself from your grip, bending down and grabbing you by the upper arms. He kisses you hard, all teeth and tongue. Leading you backwards to the bed until you laid down, his body above yours making the bed dip and creak lightly. He broke from the kiss and reached over to the bedside table and opened the drawer, he pulled out a box of 30 condoms and you couldn’t contain your laughter. “30? Oh sweetie.” He smiled with you, fiddling open the box and pulling out the small foil package and threw the box on the floor. “What? Can’t a guy be prepared.” You leaned on your elbows and watched him slide the latex rubber down his length, his eyes found yours.
“We can stop at any time, okay?” He rubbed slow lazy circles on your hip, you nodded as confirmation. Aerion held on your knees, pushing them apart as his other free hand held his length as he swiped it up and down you a few times, you on instinct flicked your hips up. “Calm down, am coming.” You wanted to smack him, he wasn’t going fast enough. You wanted him, you want to feel him stretching you apart. In one slow motion he began to slide in slowly, his mouth on yours swallowing each gasp you made. He bottomed out fully, you loved the feeling of him, how he settled so nicely inside you. “You still okay?” He asked again, you nodded yes. He didn’t move, he held position inside you, holding his breath as if he was holding his own control.
“Please.” You whimpered, nails scratching at his forearms. “Please? What baby? Use your words.” Before you could answer him he responded by pulling out and entering again, your hands flew up to his shoulders immediately. “Tell me..” he started, hips bucking into you with a relentlessly forced that you knew you’d feel tomorrow. “Tell me I fuck better than Shawn.” You frowned, mouth falling open as he thrusted inside you harder and deeper. “Tell me!” He grabbed your chin, forcing you to look at him. You bit your lower lip and shook your head no, he grunted and pulled out fully, grabbing your hip and rolling you over to your stomach hand snaking around to bring you ass up sliding to him.
He entered again, the new position allowing him to get deeper and pound into you without resistance. “Tell me.” One hand came down hard on your cheek, a loud smack echoed the room forcing you to arch and bite on to his pillow to stifle the racket you made. Aerion noticed the pillow and ripped it away from you, tossing it somewhere on the floor leaning his body down on yours, hand on the back of your head pushing you further into the mattress. “No no princess.” He whispered. “you don’t get to be quiet.”
Fuck, you told yourself trying to breathe, trying to focus. He’s nothing like his brother, he’s a little older and incontrol of the situation fully. He takes both wrists in his one hand and pulls you back till your back is against his chest, his free hand holds you by the waist reaching forward till his fingers find your clit, he doesn’t rub it gently but instead roughly till it’s slightly overstimulating but he doesn’t stop, he keeps pace. “You going to tell me yet?” His words are in your ear, his breathing is heavy and it’s driving you insane. “tell me baby, I’ll let you come.”
You swallow hard, lips gapped. You want to tell him, you want to tell him he’s the best you’ve ever had but you don’t.. you don’t want him to stop. He growls in frustration, pushing you forward again, his hands on your hips. The sound of skin slapping on skin and the bed creaking filled the room, he wanted to hear it. He wanted to hear how he fucked you better, made you come harder so he worked harder. He had the stamina to last night but you felt too good to last, perfect for him to use after a shitty day. He moved fast and hurried, taking in every noise that escaped from you.
He didn’t let up, he kept his pace even when you started to yell and scream his name, he didn’t stop. He kept going, you were falling apart beneath him unable to stop what came from you, he didn’t stop once. He didn’t need to catch his breath, he’s a manic when it comes to his bedroom activities and no one leaves unsatisfied. Though, he slowed right down, painfully slow. Wiping the sweat from his forehead, he stroked your sides with his nails softly almost as if he cared.
He pulled out and slid back in, he did it once. He did it twice, he did it three times. Slow and deliberate, you couldn’t take it, you needed it. “You’re better.” You betrayed yourself, whispering into the mattress. “what was that baby?” He stroked your hair, turning your head so you could look at him. He almost pitied you, tears from pleasure in your eyes, lips plump from biting them and the faint print of the mattress pattern on your cheek. “You fuck me better than Shawn.” A mischievous smirk like he was the devil himself played on his face, it was all he needed to hear. He slid back inside you with force, building up pace again. “Touch yourself, come on me.” He commanded, hands holding your tightly and close as he railed into you.
You snaked your hand down, leaning the weight on your shoulder as you touched yourself the way you liked. It didn’t take long, not long at all until he had you climbing, climbing that peak that had you almost pulling away but he refused holding you close so you couldn’t escape. He gasped as you tightened around him once, then twice then again as you erupted screaming his name past caring who heard, surely the walls shook. Aerion was sure you gripped him hard enough the condom came off.
He pulled out, not giving you a moment to ride your wave. Standing to his feet, he motioned for you. “Show me what you said earlier, head thing.” He clicked his fingers, you nodded and slowly rolled over to your back happy to feel something other than his hands on your spine. You scooted yourself until your head hung over the edge, Aerion stripped the condom from his cock and discarded it somewhere on the floor beside his feet, he stroked himself once to keep momentum. You opened your mouth for him, he understood and crouched slightly alining himself with your mouth and gently slid in careful not to catch himself on your teeth.
“Ohh.” He exhaled as you sucked his cock, he began to slowly fuck your throat. Reaching down he rested his hand on your throat able to feel himself penetrating your mouth. He didn’t go fast, he was careful and moved more consciously not to damage your throat. You closed your eyes and allowed him to use you, “I’m close.” He whispered, you tried to speak but the hum from your throat around his cock set him off, “you going to swallow me? Yeah?” He didn’t want to pull out, too messy. He held your cheeks and thrusted a few more times before emptying himself deep in your throat, you gasped for air while swallowing. He held your head in place while he twitched, slowly draining.
He pulled out slowly, picking up a towel from the floor for his face. He handed it to you while you watched him upside down, eyes staring straight ahead feeling completely drained. He picks up a bottle of water from the nightstand and takes a quick drink, placing the cap on and laughs, handing it to you upside down. You take it, still staring ahead.
“I’m going for a shower.” You look at him, holding the bottle. “You can stay, it’s late.” He’s about to leave as you roll and sit up, never had you slept over night with Shawn. It was a rule.
“What if Shawn comes back?” Aerion opens his door to the bright hall, and turns to look over his shoulder. “You’re worried about Shawn?” You nod, he’s going to be pissed if he catches you in Aerions bed. “Don’t worry about him.” You shake your head and roll you eyes, sipping at the water, washing the taste of him out your mouth. “Yeah.. that’s easy for you to say.”
Aerion looked down at his feet, shaking his head. He confidently walks over to you, leaning both hands on either side of you again. Only now you had noticed the muscles on his arms, he looks you in the eyes. “If Shawn has a problem…” A faint smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. “he can tell me.”
Couples Therapy
Part 7?
AU! Aerion Targaryen x Reader. (NO Y/N input.)
Plot: you met on tinder, agreeing to a first date in therapy as a couple. Time went on, spent together. Possibly becoming a real couple.
Warnings: Mild - He holds you against a door.
The drive to Daeron’s bar was filled with music, terrible singing and Aerion drumming on the steering wheel whenever a song he liked came on.
“You know every word?”
“I know every good word.” He corrected.
“You made half of those up.”
“Creative licence.”
The bar sat on a lively corner downtown.
Warm lights spilled through the windows, live music drifted out every time the door opened.
Inside, it was loud. The kind of place where everyone seemed to know everyone else, behind the bar stood a man who looked enough like Aerion that there was no mistaking they were brothers.
Only where Aerion looked like polished chaos? This man looked like he’d embraced it, his dark blond hair brushed his shoulders in loose waves.
The sleeves of his black shirt were rolled to his elbows. He was laughing at something a customer had said while pouring three beers at once with surprising accuracy.
“AERION!” Half the bar looked over, Daeron pointed dramatically. “You survived!”
“I was gone three hours.”
“I missed you.”
“You texted me twice telling me to bring ice.”
“I did?” His eyes landed on you, a slow grin spread across his face. “So…”
He wiped his hands on a towel before walking closer to the bar, elbows resting on its wooden surface. “This is the woman?” The way he said WOMAN made you shift a little, oh god.
Aerion nodded. “This is her.” His hand on your lower back, pushing you forward to stop being so shy.
Daeron looked you up and down before smiling warmly. “You’re way too pretty for him.”
“Thank you,” you laughed.
“I’ve been saying that,” Aerion muttered.
Daeron ignored him completely. “I’m Daeron.” He shook your hand. “Older brother.” Daeron leaned across the bar conspiratorially. “So.” You already recognised the mischievous glint in his eye. It was the exact same one Aerion got before suggesting something ridiculous. “I’ve got one rule.” He held up one finger lazily, the same common trait he seems to share with his younger brother.
“Oh no,” Aerion sighed.
“You.” Daeron pointed directly at you. “Are doing karaoke with me.”
You blinked. “I don’t sing.”
“You do tonight.”
“I really don’t.”
“You absolutely do.” He slapped the bar dramatically. “I own this place.”
“I don’t think that’s legally binding.” You looked at Aerion, “you’re a lawyer, is that legal?”
“It is in here.” Aerion leaned towards you, giving you a soft look as he began to lean into your ear. “I should warn you, he gets louder the more he drinks.”
Daeron looked offended. “I am perfectly…” He paused to think “whatever I was saying.”
“You’ve been drinking your own stock again,” Aerion said.
“It’s called quality control.”
“You’ve had four quality controls.”
“I take my job seriously.”
A customer called Daeron’s name from the other end of the bar.
He pointed at you before walking away backwards. “One hour!”
“What happens in an hour?” you called.
“Karaoke!” He disappeared into the crowd.
You looked at Aerion. “Does he always have this much energy?” Aerion watched his brother expertly catch a bottle someone tossed across the bar without spilling a drop.
He smiled fondly. “He’s actually the calm one in the family.”
You stared at him. “That is deeply concerning.”
Aerion laughed. “I’ve been trying to tell you.”
The first drink became the second, the second somehow became the fourth.
You’d stopped keeping count somewhere between Daeron telling the story of Aerion accidentally setting off the courthouse fire alarm with burnt microwave popcorn, and Aerion insisting that was ‘an exaggerated retelling of a tragic event.’
“It was oatmeal!” Aerion protested.
Daeron nearly spilled his beer laughing.
“It was instant oatmeal!”
“The instructions were wrong.”
“The instructions said add water!”
“They were open to interpretation.”
You laughed so hard your sides hurt.
The bar grew busier as the evening wore on, the fifth drink suddenly became shots of tequila. “You like the salt like this.” Daeron offered demonstration first, he licked the back of his and shook his shoulders. “You then knock it back.” He took the shot, a ‘WHOO’ flying from his mouth. “Then you suck the lime.” He did all with experience, easy and simple.
Music echoed between conversations.
Pool balls cracked together somewhere in the back.
People drifted in and out, greeting Daeron like an old friend.
Aerion stayed close the entire night.
Always close.
If you stood at the bar, his knee bumped yours.
If you walked to another table, his hand settled lightly against the small of your back without either of you acknowledging it.
If you laughed… He unconsciously leaned closer.
You realised it wasn’t possessive or deliberate.
It was simply how he seemed to exist around you, like his body had quietly decided that wherever you were… That was where it belonged.
Across from you, Aerion was watching you laugh at one of Daeron’s stories.
‘God.’
He couldn’t stop looking.
He’d seen you yesterday.
He’d seen you this morning.
He’d picked you up less than two hours ago.
Yet somehow? You looked prettier every time he glanced over.
‘This is getting embarrassing.’ He told himself while he took another sip of his drink. ‘Get a grip.’
You caught him staring. “What?”
He smiled. “You have something…” He reached across the table, his thumb brushed gently against the corner of your mouth.
“There.”
Your cheeks warmed immediately. “What was it?”
“Salt.”
You rolled your eyes and caught his wrist before he pulled away. He looked down at your hand, then back at you.
Neither of you said anything.
You simply leaned across the table and kissed him.
Quick.
Barely longer than a heartbeat.
When you sat back down, Daeron groaned loudly from behind the bar.
“Oh, come on!”
The entire table looked at him.
“You two are making single people sick.”
Aerion didn’t even turn around. “I’ll buy you tissues.”
“I’ve got tissues!”
“Then what’s the problem?”
“The problem is you’re disgustingly happy.”
Someone put an old rock song on the jukebox.
Aerion stood, holding out a hand.
“Dance.”
“In the middle of a bar?”
“Exactly.”
“I don’t dance.”
“I’ve seen you.”
“You’ve seen me walking.”
“Same rhythm.”
You laughed. “No.”
He dramatically clutched at his chest.
“Rejected.”
“You’ll recover.”
“I won’t.”
“You literally will.”
Even without dancing, he found reasons to steal little moments. He’d lean close to tell you something while giggling, forget what he’d been about to say and kiss you instead.
You’d laugh at him, call him impossible, then kiss him back before he could answer.
By now, It felt almost instinctive.
Natural.
The space between you never seemed to last very long. ‘She’s kissing me first now.’ Aerion noticed it before she did.
Little stolen kisses.
A hand reaching for his without thinking.
Her shoulder resting against his while she listened to Daeron’s stories.
‘I am in so much trouble.’ He’d smile into his drink. ‘This woman is going to ruin me.’ The thought should’ve terrified him.
Instead, It made him strangely happy.
You caught him smiling to himself.
“What?”
“I just had a thought.”
“Should I be worried?”
“Always.”
You snorted. “There he is.”
“There who is?”
“The menace.”
“I’ve been here the whole time.”
You reached up on glazed over eyes, need to touch his face and remind yourself that he’s actually real, the chaotic man who is incredibly handsome when without warning, a hand grabbed yours.
“Right!” Daeron. He was grinning with the unstoppable confidence of a man who’d had several beers. “Karaoke time.”
“Oh no…”
“Oh yes.”
“I told you that..”
“No excuses.” He gently but firmly tugged you away from the table.
You looked back helplessly. “Aerion!” Your almost boyfriend simply raised his glass. “Good luck.”
Daeron laughed loudly. “See?” He pointed triumphantly at his younger brother. “He’s already accepted your fate.”
Before you knew it, you were standing beside Daeron on the tiny stage.
The opening chords of Don’t Stop Believin’ filled the room. “Oh, absolutely not,” you whispered looking got a reason to escape.
Daeron shoved a microphone into your hand. “We’re doing the chorus.”
“I don’t know the verses.”
“Nobody knows the verses.”
He threw an arm dramatically around your shoulders. “When in doubt…” He pointed towards the crowd. “Make them sing.”
From his seat, aerion rested his chin in his hand.
She was laughing so hard she could barely stand upright, trying and failing to dodge the microphone whenever Daeron shoved it into her face. Each time earning a small feedback sound from the speakers.
Hair falling across her face.
Completely forgetting to be self conscious.
‘She’s beautiful.’ He thought, still watching her interact with his brother and a single microphone.
For a man who joked his way through almost every emotion, the realization landed with surprising force.
‘Don’t say anything stupid.’ He knew himself well enough to know that if she came back to the table right now there was a very real chance he’d tell her exactly how he felt.
So instead? He smiled to himself and picked up his drink and decided he could survive another song before risking saying something that might change everything.
By one in the morning the bar had thinned out.
The karaoke machine had finally gone quiet after Daeron’s fourth attempt at convincing everyone he could hit the high notes. He couldn’t.
Glasses were stacked behind the bar, someone swept peanut shells into a dustpan.
Outside, the city glittered beneath the summer night. Daeron leaned heavily over the bar, looking between the two of you. “You two.” He lazily pointed, hair falling out of place from behind his ears.
Aerion looked up. “What?”
“I love you.”
“You’re drunk.”
“I know.” Daeron pointed dramatically.
“and because I love you…” He jingled a set of car keys. “Neither of you are driving.”
“We weren’t planning to.”
“Good.”
He walked you both outside, Aerion had practically been holding you up. Heels discarded long ago, Daeron had slipped into her apartment upstairs for a pair of socks, he mentioned that even though it’s his bar? He wouldn’t dare risk walking around barefooted. He whistled sharply at a cab, motioning for it to pull up outside.
Five minutes later, he’d practically marched the pair of you onto the sidewalk. “You,” he said, poking Aerion in the chest. “Get home.”
“I live there.”
“Excellent start.” Then he turned to you. “If he starts talking about Roman history? Pretend to care.”
You managed to fake a gasp, hand on chest. “I do care.”
“No you don’t.”
“No,” you admitted. “I don’t.”
Daeron laughed so hard he had to steady himself against the door. “Knew it.”
He pulled the cab door open. “Go.”
Aerion saluted. “Yes, Captain.”
“And don’t get arrested.”
“No promises.”
Daeron groaned dramatically. “I worry about you every single day.”
The cab had barely pulled away from the curb before you were laughing again.
“I like him.”
“I knew you would.”
“He really is just…” You searched for the word. “An older you.”
Aerion looked horrified. “That’s offensive.”
“It isn’t.”
“He has less shame.”
“He has more hair.”
“I’ve got plenty of hair.”
“You absolutely brought that up because you’re jealous.”
“I’m not jealous.”
“You touched your hair.”
“I was scratching my head.” He nudged your knee with his, you nudged him back then, without thinking, you slid a little closer across the seat.
There was still plenty of room, yet somehow you ended up pressed against his shoulder anyway. His arm naturally settled around your waist. “We’re ridiculous.” You smiled into his jacket.
“I don’t even care.”
Aerion looked down at you. ‘She’s cuddly when she’s drunk.’ That thought alone nearly made him laugh.
Normally you teased him.
Rolled your eyes.
Called him an idiot.
Now? You were absent mindedly tracing circles on his sleeve while looking out of the window. ‘Don’t smile like an idiot.’
He smiled anyway, unable to escape his inner thoughts.
“What?” you asked, catching him.
“Nothing.” He shrugged.
You suddenly giggled, shoulders bouncing. “I think you’re cute.” You admitted, leaning in to whisper into his ear, “and sexy.” You let your nose rub against the side of his neck, just below his ear.
His eyebrows lifted. “You’ve had tequila.”
“I have.”
“You’ll regret saying that tomorrow.”
“I won’t.”
“You absolutely..” You interrupted him with a quick kiss, just enough to stop him talking. When you pulled away, he blinked.
“Well.” He started with his eyes closed then opened them.
“Well?”
“I had a really good argument.”
“You talk too much.”
“I object.”
“Kiss denied.”
“You can’t deny a kiss after already kissing me.”
“Watch me.” He leaned in again with the most exaggeratedly hopeful expression you had ever seen. “You look desperate.”
“I am desperate.”
“For a kiss?”
“For your attention.”
You laughed, unable to resist brushing another quick kiss across his lips, The cab rolled through a green light.
Rain began tapping softly against the windows, you rested your head against his shoulder.
After a minute…
You tilted your face up. “You smell nice.”
“Thanks?”
“What is it?”
“I think it’s cedar.”
“It suits you.”
“You smell like…” He leaned closer, getting a closer smell of your perfume.
“Vanilla.”
“I do?”
“Mhm.” He continued smelling, “And”
He smiled. “Home.”
Your expression softened, just for a second as you playfully poked his ribs.
“That was smooth.”
“I know.”
“You practiced that.”
“I absolutely didn’t.”
Your hand had somehow found his again, his fingers threaded through yours automatically while hr drew lazy circles across the back of your hand with his thumb.
Neither of you seemed capable of sitting still if it meant not touching the other. The driver glanced up into the rear view mirror.
Once.
Twice.
By the third glance you’d leaned in to whisper something that dissolved into laughter halfway through, aerion laughed with you, forehead resting briefly against yours.
The driver cleared his throat.
Neither of you noticed.
“So…” Aerion murmured.
“Hm?”
“I’m glad you came tonight.”
“I’m glad you invited me.”
“I was worried.”
“You?”
“Believe it or not.”
“Worried about what?”
“That Daeron would embarrass me.”
You smiled. “He did.”
“He really did.”
“He told three strangers about you crying over a goldfish.”
“It died.”
“You were twenty.”
“It was unexpected.”
You laughed so hard you buried your face against his shoulder. When you looked back up, he was already looking at you again. “You keep doing that,” you said.
“What?”
“Looking at me.”
“I know.”
“Why?”
He shrugged. “I like the view.” You shook your head, smiling despite yourself.
He leaned in once more.
You met him halfway.
The kiss was brief.
Soft.
Broken almost immediately by, “Oh, for the love of God!”
Both of you froze, the cab driver was staring at you in the mirror. “I don’t care if you’re newlyweds, movie stars, or the King and Queen of England.” He pointed firmly toward the front windshield.
“Sit still for ten minutes!”
You blinked. “Sorry.” Aerion, trying very hard not to laugh, nodded solemnly. “Yes, sir.”
The driver turned back to the road with a dramatic sigh. “Honestly…”
There was silence.
About five whole seconds.
You looked at Aerion.
He looked at you.
The corners of his mouth twitched.
Yours did too.
Very quietly, so the driver couldn’t hear, you whispered, “We’re being told off.”
Aerion bit the inside of his cheek to stop himself laughing. “I know.”
“I’ve never been scolded by a taxi driver before.”
“It’s kind of romantic.”
You snorted. “Only you would think that.” He squeezed your hand instead of risking another kiss, for the remaining drive, you both made a genuine effort to behave. It lasted almost a full minute before your shoulders bumped together again, setting you both off into another fit of quiet, uncontrollable laughter.
By the time the cab stopped outside Aerion’s apartment building, the rain had eased into a fine mist. Aerion thanked the driver with surprising sincerity. “You two,” the driver sighed as you climbed out. “Stay out of trouble.”
“No promises,” Aerion replied.
The driver groaned and pulled away.
The apartment lobby was quiet.
Only the soft hum of the elevator and the distant buzz of fluorescent lights filled the space.
Aerion fished his keys from his pocket.
“Hang on…”
“You’ve got too many keys.”
“I absolutely do.”
“What are half of these for?”
“I don’t know anymore.”
You laughed. “I think you’ve collected them like Pokémon.”
“They’re sentimental.”
“You don’t even know what they unlock.”
“I might need them one day.”
You reached over to help.
Instead, your fingers caught his.
He looked up. “Oh.”
You smiled. “Oh.”
He stepped closer, the keys jingled as he forgot what he’d been doing. “So…” he murmured.
“So…”
“You know…”
“What?”
“We’re home.”
“We’re still in the hallway.”
“Technicalities.”
You laughed softly.
He kissed you.
Gentle.
Warm.
You smiled into it, then kissed him back.
His free hand settled against your waist.
Yours found the lapel of his jacket.
The keys slipped from his fingers and clattered onto the tiled floor.
Neither of you reacted.
‘Focus.’ Aerion’s brain was trying.
It really was. ‘Open the door.’
Instead, he kissed you again. His hands slid their way down, grabbing your ass pulling you up to wrap your legs around his waist. He had you pressed against the door, his foot kicked his keys causing a small scraping sound across the floor, you had found his hair giving small tugs of his short silver locks. You moaned into his mouth each time he rolled his hips, keeping you secure.
You laughed against his lips. “We’re hopeless.”
“A little.”
“A lot.”
“Definitely a lot.”
You rested your forehead against his.
“You know…” a smile ghosted across your lips.
“Hm?”
“We could…” A mischievous smile spread across your face, you rolled your own hips against him while he held you up. The look on his own face was unmissable, he looked at you as if he was shark sniffing out blood. “Make Kevin now.”
He burst into laughter, an actual, helpless laugh that echoed through the empty hallway. When he finally caught his breath, he looked at you with the fondest expression. “Absolutely not.”
“No?”
“No.”
“You don’t want our imaginary son?”
“I adore our imaginary son.”
“So?”
He brushed a thumb across your cheek.
“We’re both drunk.”
“You have a point.”
“I occasionally have one and…” He set you down slowly, fingers trailing down your bare legs as he picked the keys up from the floor. “I’m making coffee.”
You looked at him suspiciously. “Coffee?”
“Mhm.”
“You are the least romantic man alive.”
“I disagree.” He smiled. “I like you far too much to let tequila make decisions for us.”
The words landed quietly between you.
Before you could answer, he unlocked the apartment.
The familiar scent of cedar greeted you as you stepped inside. Arthur the crow was still perched on his shelf, eternally unimpressed. “I think Arthur missed us,” you whispered.
“I think Arthur judges us.”
“He definitely judges us.”
“He judges everyone.” Aerion tossed his keys in the bowl and removed his jacket, dropping it on the floor not caring about it at this moment. He stumbled slightly,
“I’m making coffee,” he announced, pointing to the kitchen.
The coffee machine hummed.
Water boiled.
Aerion rolled his sleeves to his elbows before undoing the top two buttons of his shirt with an exhausted sigh. His tie had disappeared somewhere during the evening. His hair was a complete mess, between sweat from the heat of the alcohol in his blood and your hands constantly finding it.
He smiled to himself as he found two mugs. “Tonight was… really good.” He spoke to himself setting them down, staring at his reflection in the glass window.
He’d watched you laugh until your eyes watered, watched you tease Daeron without missing a beat. Watched you fit into his chaotic little world as though you’d always belonged there.
The kettle clicked.
He poured the coffee.
Added milk to yours without even thinking.
Stopped. “I already know how she takes it.” The realization made him smile.
He carried the mugs into the living room. “i come bearing caffeine.” He practically sang.
Silence.
He frowned. “Hey?” You hadn’t answered, you had curled up on the sofa without meaning to. One shoe had fallen off onto the rug while your head rested against the armrest, one hand tucked beneath your cheek.
Fast asleep.
Aerion stood there for a moment.
Still holding two mugs. “Seriously?”
A quiet laugh escaped him. “You couldn’t even wait for coffee.” He carefully set the mugs on the table. He pulled the armchair around so it faced the sofa and sat down heavily, stretching his legs out with a tired groan. His shirt hung open at the collar.
“You know…” He rubbed a hand over his face. “You’re probably not listening.”
You made a tiny sleepy sound.
He smiled. “No, I didn’t think so.”
He leaned back in the chair. “I’ve spent the last week convincing strangers we were married…” He laughed quietly. “We invented a kid, you met my brother.” He rubbed his face again, trying to fight own sleep. “You somehow made Daeron like you more than me.”
He shook his head. “Honestly? I think I’ve been in trouble since that ridiculous acting class.” You shifted slightly beneath the sofa cushion.
Still asleep.
“I was going to wait.” He looked down at his hands. “Do it properly, flowers that actually make sense.”
“A speech.” He winced. “No! Not a speech! I’d definitely ruin the speech.”
A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “So…” He looked back at you.
“Would you be my girlfriend?”
Silence.
Arthur the crow remained an unhelpful audience.
Aerion chuckled. “Yeah.. I figured, you’ve got a flawless poker face when you’re unconscious.” He stood, disappearing briefly into the hallway before returning with a soft blanket.
Carefully, trying not to wake you…
He draped it over you, tucking the edge around your shoulder.
A strand of hair had fallen across your face.
He brushed it gently behind your ear.
Then, without any expectation of an answer… He bent down and pressed a soft kiss to your forehead.
“Goodnight,” he whispered. “I’ll ask you properly tomorrow.” with one last glance to make sure you were warm enough, he turned off the lamp beside the sofa.
The room slipped into darkness, lit only by the city lights beyond the windows.
Arthur, as always, watched over everything in complete silence.

AU! Aerion Targaryen x Reader. (NO Y/N INPUT)
Aeri: 📸 Photo attached.
You opened it, A pigeon. Just… A pigeon standing in a parking lot.
Aeri: He looks like he pays taxes.
You smiled.
You: You’re supposed to be working.
Three little dots appeared instantly.
Aeri: I am.
📸 Photo attached.
The courtroom, his polished shoes visible at the bottom of the frame.
Aeri: Justice never sleeps.
Aeri: Unfortunately neither do pigeons.
You had wondered what his issue with birds is, he doesn’t seem to like them.
By nine o’clock he’d sent…
A squirrel holding half a bagel.
A traffic cone that he’d captioned: “This guy looks judgemental.” and a selfie.
Hair slightly messy, suit jacket slung over one shoulder. Pulling the most serious expression imaginable.
Aeri: Trial starts in five.
Aeri: Wish me luck.
You replied.
You: Good luck.
A typing bubble appeared.
Aeri: Wrong.
You frowned.
You: What?
Aeri: Tell me I’m handsome.
You laughed out loud at your desk.
You: You’re handsome.
Almost immediately
Aeri: Thank you.
Aeri: That’s all I needed.
You’d barely put your phone down when it buzzed again.
📸 Photo attached.
A vending machine.
Aeri: It stole $2 from me.
You: You’re going to sue it, aren’t you?
Aeri: Already drafting paperwork.
You: Aerion…
Aeri: I’m kidding.
Aeri: Mostly.
Your coworker keri peered over the cubicle, pulling off her headset.
“You’ve smiled at your phone about twelve times.”
You quickly locked the screen. “I have not.”
“You literally just giggled.”
“I don’t giggle.”
“You absolutely giggled.”
You looked down at your phone as it vibrated again.
Your coworker sighed.
“Boy?”
“Unfortunately.” Your eyes rolled that hard, you heard them.
11:17 AM
📸 Photo attached.
A tiny succulent on someone’s windowsill.
Aeri: This little dude is thriving.
You: Aren’t you in court?
Aeri: Recess.
You: You’re spending recess photographing plants?
Aeri: Don’t judge Gerald.
You: The plant has a name?
Aeri: He deserves one.
Five minutes later…
📸 Photo attached.
A different plant.
Aeri: Gerald’s wife.
Then
📸 Photo attached.
An empty chair.
Aeri: Gerald’s lawyer.
By lunchtime your camera roll contained:
Three pigeons, two plants, a suspiciously muscular duck, a parking meter he’d described as “power hungry.” A sandwich he’d rated 8.7/10.
And a cloud shaped vaguely like Wyoming.
You finally texted him.
You: Do you ever actually work?
His reply came before you’d locked your phone.
Aeri: Excuse you.
📸 Photo attached.
He’d discreetly taken a photo from counsel’s table.
The judge sat at the front of the courtroom.
The witness was speaking.
Everything looked entirely serious.
Except In the bottom corner of the picture, Aerion had somehow managed to pull a thumbs up.
You covered your mouth to stop yourself laughing.
You: You absolute idiot.
Three dots.
Disappeared.
Three dots.
Aeri: The judge just looked at me.
You: GOOD.
Aeri: I think she sensed the thumbs up.
You: Put your phone away.
Aeri: Yes ma’am.
A few minutes passed.
Your phone buzzed again.
📸 Photo attached.
A close up of his legal notepad.
Across the top, in surprisingly neat handwriting, he’d written down.
Things to tell her later:
Saw a dog wearing sunglasses.
Think Arthur would like ducks.
Ask if she still wants Kevin (as a joke).
Buy more mozzarella sticks.
Tell her she looked really pretty asleep.
You stared at the last line a little longer than the others.
He’d never said that to you, before you could decide what to reply, another message arrived.
Aeri: Ignore the last one.
Aeri: That was supposed to stay on the notepad.
You smiled to yourself.
Then typed the only reply that felt right.
You: Too late.
There was a pause, longer than usual.
Aeri: You did.
Your cheeks warmed.
You: I did.
Nothing came back for almost a full minute.
When his next message arrived, it was just one line.
Aeri: I’ve got about four hours of work left.
Aeri: It’s taking everything in me not to leave early just to see you again.
The afternoon dragged, not because work was busy but because every time your phone didn’t buzz, you found yourself glancing at it anyway.
Your coworkers had stopped pretending not to notice. “You’ve got that smile again,” one of them said as you looked down at your screen.
“I don’t.”
“You’ve checked your phone 17 times in the last hour.”
Your phone vibrated, you tried to ignore it, made it almost three seconds.
Then gave in.
Aeri
📸 Photo attached.
It was a selfie.
He was standing outside the courthouse, tie loosened, jacket slung over one shoulder, the skyline behind him. His grin was almost obnoxiously smug.
Aeri: Victory.
Another message arrived before you’d finished looking at the picture.
Aeri: Won the case.
Aeri: Never doubted myself for a second.
You smiled.
You: Liar.
Aeri: Okay, maybe for like… six minutes.
Aeri: Then opposing counsel accidentally called the judge “Mom.”
You blinked. You: They did not.
Aeri: They absolutely did.
You: You’re making that up.
Aeri: Fifty fifty.
A few seconds passed.
📸 Photo attached.
His briefcase sitting on the passenger seat of his car, balanced on top of it was a tiny plastic trophy he’d clearly bought somewhere.
#1 Lawyer
Aeri: Bought this for myself.
You: That’s the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.
Aeri: Thank you.
A few minutes later your phone buzzed again.
Aeri: Question.
You: Go on.
Aeri: You busy tonight?
You looked at the clock.
Only another hour left at work.
You: Depends.
Aeri: My brother’s working tonight.
You: Daeron?
Aeri: The one and only.
You: The karaoke and whiskey philosopher?
Aeri: That’s him.
Three dots appeared.
Disappeared.
Appeared again.
Aeri: Want to come meet him?
You hesitated.
Your fingers hovered over the keyboard.
Meeting a sibling somehow felt, bigger?
This wasn’t pretending to be married anymore.
Or inventing Kevin.
This was real.
You: Isn’t that… a little soon?
His reply came almost instantly.
Aeri: Probably.
Aeri: But…
Aeri: Free drinks.
You laughed quietly.
You: You’re trying to bribe me.
Aeri: It’s working though.
You: Maybe.
Another message.
Aeri: Besides…
Aeri: Daeron already knows about you.
You frowned.
You: He does?
Aeri: I might’ve mentioned the girl who convinced strangers we had a son named Kevin.
You: That’s somehow not even the weirdest sentence you’ve ever sent me.
Aeri: High praise.
You smiled at your screen.
You: Fine.
You: I’ll come.
You pondered for a second, thumbs tapping either side of your phone, thinking. Nervous.
Aeri: Nice.
Aeri: Wear something nice.
You: Oh?
Aeri: Yeah.
A pause.
Aeri: Something tight enough that it’ll distract me all night.
You rolled your eyes, already smiling.
Before you could reply, another message landed.
Aeri: and if we’re lucky…
Aeri: I’ll spend the whole evening trying very hard to behave.
Aeri: Mostly.
You bit your lip, laughing to yourself.
You: I was expecting something much worse.
His reply came immediately.
Aeri: I typed something worse.
Aeri: Then remembered you’re at work.
You: How considerate of you.
Aeri: I’m growing as a person.
Then, as if he couldn’t help himself:
Aeri: Although…
Aeri: I am absolutely going to kiss you the second I see you.
Your cheeks warmed despite yourself.
You locked your phone before anyone else noticed your smile.
It didn’t help.
Your coworker looked over from the next desk.
“Bar tonight?”
You blinked. “How did you know?”
She shrugged.
“The smile.”
She nodded toward your phone.
“And whoever Aeri is, he’s definitely trouble.”
You looked down at his name on the screen and you smiled to yourself.
“Yeah, he definitely is.”
You spent far longer getting ready than you intended.
Your bedroom looked like a clothing store had exploded.
Three outfits lay abandoned across the bed.
Another hung over the chair.
You stood in front of the mirror, turning slightly.
“Too much?”
You turned the other way.
“Not enough?”
It was ridiculous.
You’d gone to couples therapy with this man after knowing him for less than an hour. Convinced strangers you shared a fictional son, kissed him in front of an acting class.
Yet somehow, meeting his older brother made you nervous. You settled on something that made you feel confident without trying too hard. It hugged your figure just enough to make you smile at your reflection.
Your phone buzzed.
Aeri: Outside.
Another message immediately followed.
Aeri: Don’t laugh.
You frowned.
You: Why would I laugh?
Three dots.
Aeri: Just…
Aeri: Lower your expectations.
You opened the apartment door.
Aerion was leaning against his car.
One hand tucked into the pocket of a black jacket.
The other holding flowers? Sort of.
You blinked.
It was the strangest bouquet you’d ever seen.
Three sunflowers.
A bunch of bright orange daisies.
One single red rose awkwardly sticking out the middle and what looked suspiciously like rosemary.
“What the fu-“ you floated down the steps, looking at them with a frown.
He looked down at them. “I panicked.”
“I can see that.”
“The florist asked what your favourite flowers were.”
“You don’t know?”
“No.”
“So…” He held them out proudly. “I bought one of everything that looked optimistic.” You laughed so hard you had to cover your mouth. “They’re awful.”
“They’re magnificent.”
“They’ve got herbs in them.”
“You can cook with them.”
You stepped closer, taking the bouquet from him. “I actually love them.”
“You do?”
“They’re completely ridiculous.”
He smiled. “I was aiming for memorable.”
“You succeeded.”
Before you could say anything else, he reached out and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear, his smile disappeared.
Not because anything was wrong but because he’d actually looked at you.
Really looked, his eyes drifted from your face to your outfit and back again.
He let out a quiet breath.
“Wow.”
You suddenly felt very aware of yourself.
“What?”
“I… You look…” He shook his head. “I had a whole joke planned.”
“You did?”
“Mhm.”
“What was it?”
“I was going to tell you that you looked acceptable.”
“Acceptable?”
“So you’d roll your eyes.”
“And?”
He smiled. “Then I’d tell you the truth.”
Your heart skipped. “Which is?”
He looked at you for another second. “I think you’re the prettiest woman I’ve ever picked up.”
Your cheeks warmed instantly. “You don’t have a joke after that?”
“I did.”
“What happened to it?”
He gave a helpless little shrug. “I forgot it.”
You stepped forward and kissed him, when you pulled away, he smiled like someone who’d just won the lottery.
“I remembered the joke.”
“Oh?”
“I don’t care anymore.”
Couples Therapy
AU! Aerion Targaryen x Reader
(I’m actually going to start making these longer because i have written probably around 5 other parts and people keep asking for me to pump them out and my writing app is OVERFLOWING.)
The tacos arrived 45 minutes later.
Aerion insisted on timing the delivery. “It said 35.” He huffed, tracking the poor delivery driver.
“It also says traffic.”
“They’re 10 minutes late.”
“You’ve been tracking them like they’re a hostage.”
“They have my queso.”
“They are bringing your queso.”
“They still had it.” You laughed as he opened the front door.
The poor delivery driver barely managed to say hello before Aerion accepted the bags like he was receiving a long lost child. “My friend,” he said sincerely, “thank you for your service.” The teenager looked completely bewildered.
“Uh… enjoy your tacos?”
“I will.”
“You seem really excited.”
“I haven’t eaten since eleven.”
The driver nodded sympathetically.“Damn.”
The two of you ended up sitting cross legged on the floor instead of at the dining table.
The coffee table had disappeared beneath takeout boxes.
Tacos.
Loaded fries.
Mozzarella sticks.
Three different dipping sauces because Aerion had apparently “wanted options.”
“You ordered enough food for six people.”
“I panic order.”
“I’ve noticed.”
“You never know what Future Aerion might want.”
“Future Aerion is going to need a nap.”
He pointed a mozzarella stick at you.
“That’s tomorrow’s problem.”
For a while, you both just ate in a comfortable silence.
The television played quietly in the background, some old sitcom neither of you was paying attention to.
The apartment felt warm, the sort of place where conversation didn’t need to be forced.
It simply happened.
You found yourself looking around again.
There were photographs tucked into bookshelves.
Not many.
One caught your eye.
Three boys standing ankle deep in a lake.
The oldest looked about 20. Aerion, maybe 18, was in the middle with soaking wet clothes and an enormous grin. The youngest couldn’t have been older than 8 proudly holding up what looked like the world’s tiniest fish.
You smiled. “Is that you?”
He followed your gaze. “Oh.” A smile tugged at his mouth. “Yeah.”
“You look… happier.”
“I was.” He picked up the frame. “That’s my little brother.”
“The one with the fish?”
“Mhm.”
“Aegon.” He laughed. “Nobody calls him that.”
“No?”
“No.” He smiled fondly. “He’s Egg.”
“Egg?” You laughed, confused about the name choice.
“My older brother started calling him that because he had shaved his head when he was was younger.”
“That’s terrible.”
“It stuck.”
You laughed. “How old is he now?”
“16? I think now.”
“He still likes fishing?”
“He likes everything.” His smile widened. “If someone says there’s an abandoned train tunnel, he’ll be halfway inside before you’ve finished the sentence.”
“He sounds fearless.”
“He thinks he’s fearless.” Aerion chuckled. “He came home last month with a turtle he’d found.”
“A turtle?”
“He wanted to keep it.”
“What did your dad say?”
“‘Put the damn turtle back.’”
You laughed. “And did he?”
“Eventually.”
“What about the older one?”
Aerion stole one of your fries without asking. “My older brother?”
“The one in the picture.”
“Daeron.” He shook his head with an affectionate sigh. “He owns a bar.”
“Really?”
“Mhm.” He sipped on his coke, “He also believes every problem can be solved with either whiskey or karaoke.”
“Can it?”
“It cannot, he’ll still try.” The corners of his eyes crinkled while he spoke fondly of his brothers, a smile at the end of every sentence.
“And your dad?”
Aerion took another sip of his drink.
“Maekar.” He smiled faintly. “He’s in business.”
“What kind?”
“The kind where he never really stops working.”
You nodded. “You close?”
He thought for a moment. “Closer now.”
“Than before?”
“Mhm.” He looked down at the food in his hands. “My mom was the one who kept everyone together.” The smile he’d been wearing softened. “When she died…” He shrugged. “It took us all a while to remember how to be a family without her.” His voice hadn’t changed.
It was still calm.
Still steady.
Somehow that made it sadder.
“I’m sorry.”
He nodded once. “Me too.”
There was a quiet moment before he smiled again. “She would’ve liked you.”
“You’ve known me two weeks.”
“I know.”
“I’m serious.”
He looked at you. “She loved people who laughed.”
You reached over and nudged his shoulder. “My family is… less emotionally healthy.”
“Oh?”
“My brother once convinced me I was adopted because my ears were different.”
Aerion laughed. “How old were you?”
“Seven.”
“Did you believe him?”
“For three years.”
He almost choked on his drink. “Three years?”
“I cried to my mom.”
“What did she say?”
“‘You’ve got your father’s ears.’”
“That didn’t help?”
“It really didn’t.”
“What about other siblings?”
“I’ve got a sister.”
“Nice?” You stared at him.
He immediately answered his own question. “Not nice.”
“We once didn’t speak for six months because she ate the last chocolate biscuit.”
“That’s impressively petty.”
“It wasn’t about the biscuit.”
“It never is.”
Before long, you were both laughing so hard your stomach hurt. Childhood stories became increasingly ridiculous.
Aerion admitted Daeron had once convinced him that drinking coffee would stunt his growth. “So I secretly poured it into the plants.”
“For how long?”
“Two years.”
“You killed the plants?”
“I killed every plant in the house.”
You wiped tears from your eyes. “You absolute idiot.”
“I was trying to survive.”
The laughter slowly faded, you noticed your drink had gone untouched for several minutes. The city outside had quietened.
Aerion was looking at you.
Not speaking.
Just looking, carefully watching.
“What?” You asked, suddenly feeling self conscious under his glaze. “Hm?”
“You’ve got that face.”
“What face?”
“The thinking one.” He smiled. “No it’s nothing.” He began then stopped. “it’s been a fun two weeks.” He took your hand and just held it gently, offering a small squeeze.
“I do have a question.” You looked down at your hands, his thumb brushed over your knuckles.
“Go on.”
“When we were at the acting class thing, you said something.”
“I say lots of things.”
“You said you’d deleted Tinder.”
His smile didn’t disappear.
It just became smaller. “Yeah.”
You frowned. “Why? You’d known me…”
You counted in your head. “What? Five days?”
“Six.”
“That’s insane.”
“I know.”
“You barely knew my last name.”
“I still not sure how to pronounce it.”
“So why delete it?”
He leaned back against the sofa, turning the unopened packet of hot sauce over in his hands. “I opened the app one night.”
“And?”
“There were matches.” He admitted, you felt a pang of jealousy in your chest.
“Okay.”
“I looked at them.” He shrugged. “And I didn’t want to talk to any of them.”
You stayed quiet.
He continued. “I kept thinking…” He smiled sheepishly. “I’d rather text you.”
The words were so simple they almost slipped past you.
No grand speech.
No rehearsed line.
Just the truth. “I figured if I was hoping it was your name popping up every time my phone buzzed…” He met your eyes.
“It didn’t seem fair to keep swiping.”
You felt your chest tighten in a way that had nothing to do with nerves.
“So I deleted it.” He laughed quietly to himself.
“Honestly?”
“I thought you’d think I was completely insane.” You looked at him across the sea of empty taco wrappers and half finished fries.
Thinking about therapists.
Kevin.
Acting classes.
The man who could make an entire room laugh without trying.
The man who’d asked your permission before every kiss.
The man who’d somehow made you feel like you’d known him for years after less than a fortnight.
You smiled. “I already knew you were completely insane.”
He grinned. “Yeah?”
You reached over, stole one of his fries this time, and popped it into your mouth. “Yeah.” He watched you with exaggerated betrayal. “My fry?”
“You’ll survive.”
He smiled, softer than before. “I think I will.”
The now empty taco boxes had slowly migrated across the coffee table, only half a basket of fries remained and one lonely mozzarella stick.
Neither of you had touched the television in over an hour.
Conversation had become easier than eating. “So…” you said, nudging his foot with yours. “You’re actually a lawyer.”
Aerion looked offended. “Why do people keep reacting like that.”
“I just…” You laughed. “I can’t picture you in a courtroom.”
“Why?”
“You convinced a parenting class we had a son called Kevin.”
“Strong opening statement.”
“You tried to negotiate with a self checkout.”
“It was unreasonable.”
“You thanked the DoorDash driver like he’d returned from war.”
“He brought mozzarella sticks.”
You shook your head. “No jury on Earth would take you seriously.”
Aerion smiled into his drink. “That’s exactly why I’m good.”
You frowned. “What?”
“They underestimate me, they think am an idiot.” One thing you liked about aerion is when he spoke, he spoke with his hands. Always constantly moving, sometimes making you mentally exhausted from having to keep up with his movements.
“Aren’t you?”
“Professionally? Never.” He leaned back against the couch. “They spend the first ten minutes assuming I’m harmless.”
“And then?”
“They stop paying attention.” A grin slowly spread across his face. “Then I take them apart.”
You stared at him. “You’re serious.” Not a hint of joke on his face, the way he looked when he spoke about work lit a fire within you. He looked incredibly passionate.
“I’ve won six cases this year.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“I bet you wear cowboy boots to court?”
“They’re expensive Italian leather.” You laughed so hard you nearly spilled your drink. “I genuinely thought you were making it up.”
“My father still introduces me as ‘the attorney.’”
“You don’t seem like one.”
“I know.”
His smile softened. “I worked very hard for that.”
He looked at you. “What about you?”
You tucked one leg beneath yourself on the rug. “It’s not nearly as exciting.”
“I doubt that.”
You told him anyway, you worked in customer service for an IT company. You spoke about your work with great boredom.
The people you met every day.
The parts that exhausted you.
The little victories nobody else noticed when you helped someone fix a broken part of their computer.
The funny stories that only made sense if you’d lived them, like being yelled at because a computer wouldn’t turn on.. the man hadn’t plugged the power cord into the wall.
Aerion didn’t interrupt once.
Not with a joke.
Not with a sarcastic comment.
He just listened.
Really listened, his chin resting against his hand.
Every now and then asking a question that proved he’d been paying attention to every word.
When you finished, he smiled. “I like hearing you talk.”
You blinked. “Really?”
“Mhm.”
“You’ve barely made a joke for five minutes.”
“I know.”
“Are you ill?”
“I was distracted.”
“By what?”
“You.”
Your heart did that stupid little flip again, silence settled over the apartment.
The city hummed outside the windows.
Somewhere in another apartment, someone laughed.
The lamp beside the couch cast a warm amber glow across the room, softening the dark greens and charcoal walls.
Arthur the crow watched over the room from his shelf, forever frozen in judgment.
You looked at Aerion.
He was already looking at you.
Neither of you smiled.
Neither of you looked away.
You weren’t trying to think of something clever anymore for the first time since matching on Tinder, there wasn’t anything left to prove.
He reached for you first, his fingers brushed yours.
Tentative, careful.
Almost asking.
You closed the small gap between you instead. The kiss came naturally, slow enough that you both smiled halfway through it. “You’re so beautiful.” He whispered, holding your head in his hands, turning you side to side gently as he took control, tongues wrapping together.
You found yourself leaning into him until your back rested against the front of the sofa, his shoulder pressing gently against yours.
One kiss became another and another.
Each one unhurried, interrupted by soft laughter whenever someone’s nose bumped the other or one of you accidentally smiled too much to continue.
You rested your forehead against his.“I’ve been thinking.”
“Oh, what’s that?”
“We should probably move this to the bedroom.”
The words slipped out before you had time to overthink them, fingers hooking into the latch that held his belt to his trousers. He looked down, then he looked at you for a second.
Then smiled.
Not mischievously.
Not triumphantly.
Just… warmly. “Can I make a counteroffer?”
You raised an eyebrow. “I’m listening.”
“How do you feel about cuddling?”
You blinked. “Cuddling?”
“Mhm.”
“That’s your counteroffer?”
“I’ve had a long day.”
“You’ve barely eaten.”
“I know.”
“I kissed you.”
“I noticed.”
“And your first choice is…” He shrugged while you continued. “a blanket.” You couldn’t help laughing. He reached behind him, grabbing the folded throw draped over the back of the couch.
“I’ll even let you be the little spoon.”
“You’d do that?”
He looked scandalised. “I said I’d let you.”
You narrowed your eyes. “So you’d be the big spoon?”
“For once.”
“You do strike me as someone who insists on being babied.”
“I absolutely do.” He spread the blanket across the couch with unnecessary concentration. “But…” His voice was quieter now. “I’ve spent the last two weeks making you laugh.” He looked back at you. “I think tonight I’d just like to hold you for a while.”
Something in your chest softened.
No grand gesture.
No rehearsed line.
Just an honest admission.
You smiled. “I’d like that too.”
He climbed onto the couch first, stretching out with a dramatic groan.
“This is a very lawyer shaped couch.”
“What does that even mean?”
“I don’t know.”
“You just wanted to say it.”
“I did.”
You laughed as you settled beside him, tucking yourself comfortably against his chest while he wrapped an arm around your waist and pulled the blanket over both of you.
“There.”
“There.”
A comfortable silence followed after a minute, he spoke into your hair. “We’re definitely never making Kevin.”
You smiled without opening your eyes.
“No.”
“He’d have no chance.”
“He’d grow up thinking marriage counselling is the playground.”
“And that swans hold grudges.”
“And that acting classes are for kissing strangers.”
He chuckled softly. “Poor kid.”
You reached back and squeezed his hand. “Poor kid.”
Couples Therapy
AU! Aerion Targaryen x Reader.
Plot: After meeting on tinder, Aerion suggests Couples Therapy as a first date. (Continuing this because they are my babies.)
Warnings: Kissing, Trauma Bonding, Waist Mouthing.
The drive had been quiet, not awkward, Just… different.
The city slipped past outside the windows, the city glowing amber beneath streetlights that reflected off rain darkened pavement. People hurried along sidewalks carrying grocery bags, couples laughed outside bars, taxis drifted lazily through traffic.
You found yourself watching his side profile more than the road. One hand rested loosely on the steering wheel, the other tapping absent mindedly against her thigh in time with a song neither of you were listening to.
He looked calmer than usual, not the characteristic energy he brought to every meet up. You sensed he took driving seriously, The silence wasn’t empty but felt… oddly comfortable.
That was somehow more dangerous than all the ridiculous flirting, this was supposed to be funny, you thought.
A Tinder match.
A few stupid dates.
A man with far too much confidence and an unhealthy love of lying to strangers. Somewhere between Kevin, the fake marriage and the acting class you’d accidentally started looking forward to seeing him.
You caught yourself smiling.
“What?” he asked without looking away from the road.
“Nothing.”
“I know that smile.”
“You absolutely don’t.”
“It’s your ‘I’m judging you’ smile.”
“It isn’t.”
“No…” He glanced at you. “It’s your ‘I’m thinking too much’ smile.”
You hated that he was right, you also hated how beautiful he is. You hated that over the last few days he had taken over the entirety of your mind, he just held this energy that seemed addictive.
His apartment building overlooked the river, modern from the outside.
Inside, however… “This is so… you.” You said out loud as he unlocked the door and held out a hand for you to enter first. You squeaked feeling two fingers reach up and pinch your behind playfully. You look at him, he had his bottom lip pulled between his teeth.
The apartment was clean.
Impossibly clean.
There wasn’t a shirt draped over a chair or a plate abandoned in the sink.
Everything had a place.
The walls were painted charcoal.
Framed prints covered almost every available space.
Old maps.
Oil paintings.
A photograph of an alligator wearing sunglasses.
A framed newspaper clipping titled:
LOCAL MAN INSISTS RACCOON OWES HIM TWENTY DOLLARS.
You pointed. “Please tell me that’s fake.”
Aerion looked over. “No.” He squinted his eyes pretending to read the clipping.
“You know him?”
“I am him.”
You laughed. “I knew it.”
Books overflowed from shelves, not neatly, stacked sideways balancing on top of each other. One pile looked moments away from becoming a structural hazard.
An antique brass telescope stood beside a record player.
A taxidermy crow wearing a tiny cowboy hat sat proudly on a cabinet. “Absolutely not.” You examined it.
“What?”
“The bird.”
“Oh.” He smiled fondly. “That’s Arthur.”
“Arthur?”
“I won him in a poker game.”
“You don’t play poker.”
“I do now.”
“You are making that up.”
“I bought him at an antique store.”
“I knew it.”
“But the poker story’s better.”
There were little dragon statues tucked between books.
A ceramic frog wearing a crown.
An old baseball signed by someone whose name had faded.
A chipped coffee mug that read:
WORLD’S OKAYEST LAWYER.
“You actually kept this?” You held it in your hand, Aerion had a look of enjoyment watching you pick up all his trinkets and oddities.
“It was a gift.”
“From who?”
“My grandmother.”
“She hated you, didn’t she?”
He smiled. “With remarkable consistency.”
He disappeared into the kitchen. “You hungry?”
You blinked.
That, wasn’t what you expected.
“I…” You looked towards the hallway towards what you assumed was his bedroom.
Then ack at him.
“A little.”
“I’m starving.” He opened the fridge.
Empty.
Closed it again.
“That was optimistic.”
You couldn’t help smiling.
You’d spent the entire drive wondering if he’d kiss you again.
Instead… He was debating tacos.
“What do you feel like?”
You leaned against the kitchen island. “I don’t mind.”
“We’ve got Thai.”
“Mhm.”
“Pizza.”
“Mhm.”
“Chinese.”
“Mhm.”
“Sushi.”
“Mhm.”
He frowned. “You’re being suspiciously agreeable.”
“I like food.” You shrugged, you didn’t come here for food but the faint growl in your stomach said you’d be happy to be fed.
“I respect that.” He was scrolling through DoorDash as though this was a military operation.
Comparing ratings.
Reading reviews.
Muttering to himself.
“‘Best dumplings in the city’…”
“No.”
“‘Life changing mozzarella sticks’…”
“Possibly.”
“‘Cash only.’”
“Absolutely not.”
You watched him, arms folded.
Seriously? This man had kissed you like the room had disappeared, held your face as though he was scared you’d vanish asked you back to his apartment.
And now he mentally fighting with himself. “You’re really into this menu.”
He looked up. “Hm?”
“The food.”
“Oh.” He nodded. “I haven’t eaten since eleven.”
“It’s nine.” You looked at the clock in his kitchen.
“I got distracted.”
“By what?”
“You.”
Your stomach did a ridiculous little flip.
He said it so casually, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
“Do you think fries are too much with tacos?”
You stared.
Hopeless.
Absolutely hopeless.
He wandered off towards the bedroom while still looking at his phone. “Come here.”
You followed.
His bedroom was exactly what you’d imagined.
Dark green walls.
Black bedding.
Heavy curtains.
The room smelled faintly of cedarwood and whatever cologne he’d been wearing all evening.
A guitar rested against one wall.
There were sketches pinned to a corkboard.
Concert tickets tucked into the corner of a mirror.
A cracked Roman style helmet sat on the dresser. “Why do you own that?”
“I lost a bet.”
“To who?”
“Myself.”
You laughed. “I don’t even want to know.”
“You probably don’t.”
He flopped backwards onto the bed with all the elegance of a falling tree.
Phone still in hand, he patted the space beside him. Legs crossed at the ankles.
“Tacos?”
You stood in the doorway looking at him.
He looked back.
Completely oblivious. Is he seriously just hungry?
You’d spent the last twenty minutes mentally preparing yourself for him to make another move.
Another kiss.
Some smooth line.
Something.
Instead he was asking whether you wanted extra guacamole.
You smiled to yourself.
Maybe that was why you liked him so much.
He wasn’t trying to impress you anymore.
He’d already forgotten to, he was just… Aerion.
Ridiculous.
Kind.
A little strange.
Very handsome and currently arguing with an app because it wanted to charge $2.99 for extra dipping sauce.“That’s highway robbery,” he muttered.
You laughed so hard you had to sit down.
He looked up. “What?”
“Nothing.”
“You’ve got that smile again.”
“What smile?”
“The one that says you’re thinking.”
You climbed onto the bed beside him. “I was.”
“What about?”
You looked at him for a long moment.
Then reached over, took his phone out of his hand, and set it on the nightstand.
His eyebrows lifted as you went to straddle his hips. “The tacos can wait five minutes.” You brushed a stand of falling hair behind your own ear, arching down to capture his lips in a slow kiss as if testing the waters, testing that this was okay.
For once, Aerion didn’t argue. One hand rested on your thigh and the other on your lower back. He pulled back and looked at your face for a moment, eyes darting around while he gulped softly with plump lips. You had a small smile on your lips, watching his face with as much curiosity as his did.
His eyes flicked to the phone on the nightstand, then back to you. For the first time since you’d met him, he looked genuinely unsure of himself.
Not nervous in the obvious sense.
Not fidgeting.
Not stumbling over words.
Just… still.
It suited him.
You’d become so used to his confidence filling every room that seeing the quiet beneath it caught you off guard.
“You stole my phone,” he said eventually.
“I did.”
“I was in the middle of an important decision.”
“The mozzarella sticks?”
“They had excellent reviews.”
You smiled. “They’ll survive.”
He studied your face for a second longer. “So…”
“So.” You whispered back.
“What happens now?”
The question wasn’t cocky.
It wasn’t another joke.
He was asking because he genuinely didn’t know, you smiled at him. You shifted a little closer until your shoulder brushed his, nose flicking against his gently.
“I don’t know.”
“Me neither.” Another comfortable silence settled between you.
Outside, somewhere below, a siren wailed before fading into the city’s constant hum.
The apartment creaked quietly around you.
The air conditioning kicked on.
Arthur the taxidermy crow stared at the two of you from his shelf like a disapproving chaperone.
You noticed Aerion following your gaze.
“He’s judging me.”
“He absolutely is.” Aerion kissed your collarbone one, enough to send a shiver down your spine. “He thinks I should’ve ordered the tacos first.”
You laughed. “He probably does.”
He looked back at you. “I’ve been trying to work something out.”
“Oh?”
“When did this stop being a joke?”
You opened your mouth.
Closed it again.
Because you didn’t know either.
Was it when he made you laugh in the therapist’s office? When he remembered you liked garlic bread?
When he quietly asked if you were okay before kissing you? Or had it happened so gradually that you’d simply wandered into it without noticing?
“I don’t know,” you admitted. “I was hoping you did.” You sat back on his thighs.
“No.” He smiled faintly. “I’ve been pretending I know what I’m doing.”
“I had noticed.”
“I’ve got a reputation to maintain.”
You looked around his room again and gently slid from his lap, leaving a small kiss on his forehead behind. It felt lived in, not staged, not the immaculate apartment of someone trying to impress a date.
It was his, it smelled like him.
There were fingerprints on the framed photographs.
Books with folded corners.
A baseball glove tossed onto a chair.
A tiny bronze dragon missing one wing.
You picked it up. “What happened to this?”
He smiled. “I dropped it.”
“When?”
“I was nine.”
“You kept it?”
“My mom bought it.” He took the little dragon from your hand, turning it over carefully. “She said if something breaks, it doesn’t stop being worth keeping.”
His smile softened into something almost nostalgic.
“So…” He set it back down. “I never fixed it.”
You looked at him differently after that.
Not because of the dragon.
Because he’d never mentioned his family before.
Because beneath all the jokes…
There was someone surprisingly sentimental.
“I’ve got another confession.” He started.
You smiled. “Oh?”
“I wasn’t actually interested in acting.”
“No?”
“I just wanted another excuse to spend time with you.”
You blinked.
He rubbed the back of his neck. “I know that sounds smoother than it felt saying it.”
“It was pretty smooth.”
“I rehearsed it.”
“You did not.”
“In the elevator.”
You laughed.
“I even had a backup version.”
“What was it?”
“‘You’re neat.’”
You burst into laughter. “‘You’re neat?’”
“I panicked.”
“You absolutely panicked.”
“I really did.”
The laughter faded, not awkwardly, just naturally.
You were close enough now that your knees touched.
Neither of you moved away.
Aerion watched you for a moment.
“You know…”
“What?”
“I’ve kissed people before.”
“Oh?”
“But…” He shrugged. “I’ve never cared this much whether they liked it.”
The words landed somewhere unexpectedly deep.
Not because they were poetic.
Because they were honest.
You reached over, smoothing an imaginary crease from the sleeve of his shirt. “I liked it.”
“You did?”
“I would’ve stopped you if I didn’t.”
He let out a breath he hadn’t realised he’d been holding. “Good.”
“You looked terrified afterwards.”
“I was.”
“You hide it well.”
“I’ve had years of practice pretending I know everything.” His eyes dropped briefly to your lips before returning to your eyes. “So…”
“So.”
“I’m going to kiss you again.”
You tilted your head. “That wasn’t a question?”
“No.”
“Very confident.”
“I’ve got momentum now.”
“And if I say no?”
“I’ll order tacos.”
You laughed. “And if I say yes?”
“They’ll get cold.”
“Worth it?”
He smiled. “Absolutely.”
This kiss was different.
There was no audience.
No scripts.
No instructor calling “cut.”
Just the faint glow of the bedside lamp, the sound of traffic several stories below, and the strange certainty that neither of you was pretending anymore.
His hand found yours first, lacing your fingers together before he leaned in.
Gentle.
Unhurried.
He smiled against your lips halfway through, making you laugh softly into the kiss.
When you finally pulled back, you rested your forehead against his. “You know…”
“What?”
“We’re terrible at following through.”
“How?”
“We came back here to rehearse.” He considered that.
“We did rehearse.”
“No, we kissed.”
“We rehearsed the kissing.”
You rolled your eyes affectionately “You’re impossible.”
“I’ve been told.”
A loud rumble echoed through the quiet apartment.
You both froze.
He looked down at his stomach. “That was embarrassing.”
You couldn’t stop laughing. “The tacos?”
“The tacos.” He sighed dramatically. “I knew I should’ve ordered them first.”
Acting Class
AU! Aerion Targaryen x Reader.
Plot: After matching on tinder, he suggested taking couples therapy, anger management and then a parenting class.
Warnings: NON ~ They FINALLY kiss. Suggestive baby making talk at the end.
The acting studio smelled faintly of coffee, old wood and fresh paint.
A dozen people lingered around the room introducing themselves while sipping from coffee cups the size of plant pots. Rachel, the instructor, arranged scripts on a folding table.
Aerion nudged your shoulder. “I’ve got one rule.”
“Oh no.”
He began counting down on his fingers,“We’ve done married.” One finger. “We’ve done divorced.” Two fingers.
“When did we do divorce?” You asked him, curiously look around the room and the stage that held a few boxes of different props. Aerion looked offended, “Oh yeah! Anger Management.” He counted that as his second finger while you shook your head. “We’ve done parenting class.” His third finger.
“Poor Kevin.” You muttered, “I’ll need to include him in my future tinder bio.” You wiggled your brows getting a straight faced look from Aerion. “Eh! I deleted my tinder when I met you.” You went to question him but he caught you off with the wave of his hand.
“So today…” He grinned. “we’ve never met.”
You laughed. “You’ve got a problem.”
“I’ve got commitment to the roles.”
Rachel clapped her hands. “Okay everyone! Find someone you don’t know.”
Aerion immediately walked in the opposite direction, you did the same.
You counted silently.
One…
Two…
Three…
He wandered back over with the worst fake smile you’d ever seen. “Hi.” Tongue catching between his teeth with a roll of his shoulders. “Hi.”
He stuck out his hand. “I’m Aerion.”
You shook it. “It’s nice to meet you.” It’s warm, he’s warm. His hand swallows yours in its grip.
He looked thoughtful. “Have we met before?”
“No.”
“You’ve got one of those faces.”
“What kind of face?”
“The kind I’d remember.”
You felt your cheeks warm. “That was smooth.”
“I wasn’t trying.”
“You absolutely were.”
Rachel pointed at you both. “Perfect! You two.” She called for you both to go first with the scene. The first exercise was called Instant Connection.
“You’ve got sixty seconds,” Rachel explained. “Become complete strangers waiting for the same delayed flight.”
Aerion looked around the imaginary airport. “You look like someone who’d fight customer service.”
“I would.”
“I respect that.” He offered a small smile from the corner of his lips.
“What about you?” You asked, faking a drink from a cup keep his glaze.
“I’d cry.”
If you actually had a drink, it would have been snorted. “You don’t strike me as a crier.”
“I’d cry beautifully.”
“You’ve practised?”
“In mirrors.” He nodded, his ego inflating. Most days you wondered how his head never exploded.
The room laughed.
Rachel smiled. “Very natural.” Next scene. “You’ve just become neighbours.”
Aerion knocked on an imaginary front door.
You answered. “Can I help you?”
“My Wi-Fi’s out.”
“So’s mine.”
“Then why did I come over?”
“You thought I was attractive.” You smiled, making up he came over just to talk too you.
He blinked and whispered into the back of his hand. “I wasn’t going to say that until page three.”
“There are no pages.”
He smiled. “I know.”
Rachel was already laughing. “You two are very quick.”
Third exercise. “You’ve been set up on a blind date.”
Aerion pulled out an imaginary chair “So…”
“So.”
“What are your red flags?”
“I collect medieval swords.” It was true, you did.
He nodded while making an O shape with his lip. “Green flag.’
“You?”
“I think birds are government spies.”
You stared. “Like.. Pigeons?”
“Especially pigeons.” He narrowed his eyes, leading forward keeping his face straight. You had wondered if he was being serious.
“Still green.” You replied.
By now, the rest of the class was watching your scenes instead of rehearsing their own, not because you were the best actors but because the two of you looked like you were genuinely having the time of your lives.
Every joke landed.
Every pause felt natural.
Every smile earned another.
Rachel eventually stopped everyone. “I need to know.”
She looked between you. “How long have you known each other?” She could spot actors and liars, she knew you both knew each other.
Aerion answered immediately. “About..” He checked an imaginary watch. “Eight minutes.”
The class laughed.
Rachel smiled. “No, seriously.”
You shrugged. “We matched on Tinder.”
Half the room burst into laughter.
Rachel blinked. “Wait.”
“Last week.”
“You’re kidding.”
“Nope.”
She looked genuinely impressed. “I would’ve guessed years.” Finally she handed every pair a script. “This one’s simple.” She smiled, a bit of mischief sparked in her eyes.
“A first kiss.”
There was a chorus of teasing groans around the room.
Aerion took the pages.
You leaned over his shoulder.
The scene was cheesy.
Almost painfully so.
Two strangers meet in a bookstore.
Spend all afternoon talking.
Realise neither of them wants the day to end.
The last line read: He kisses her.
Aerion looked at it, then looked at you.
“Guess we drew the short straw.”
You smiled. “Could’ve been worse.”
“What?”
“We could’ve been siblings.”
He nearly laughed loud enough for Rachel to hear. “I actually wouldn’t have minded that.” You looked at him in disbelief and he held his hands up and backed up.
When your turn came, you stepped onto the little stage.
The chatter died away.
You began. “You dropped your book.”
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
“You dropped it on purpose?”
“I panicked.”
“You panic by littering?”
“I panic creatively.” The room laughed.
The scene rolled on effortlessly.
Neither of you had to think anymore.
The words on the page became your own.
The teasing felt real.
The smiles came without effort, at one point you laughed at something he improvised, not because your character was supposed to but because you genuinely couldn’t help it.
Aerion caught himself staring.
It hit him suddenly, you looked even prettier when you forgot there was anyone else in the room.
Your eyes crinkled when you laughed.
You bit your lip trying to stop.
You reached for his arm without thinking whenever he said something ridiculous.
When did that start?
Across from him, you were having an equally inconvenient thought.
He wasn’t just handsome.
He was kind.
He always checked you were comfortable before taking the joke too far.
He listened.
Actually listened.
Every ridiculous idea he’d dragged you into had somehow ended with him making sure you were okay first.
You realised, with a little jolt of panic that you weren’t pretending to like him anymore.
You reached the final page.
The kiss.
Neither of you looked at the script.
You simply looked at each other.
He stepped closer.
Close enough that you could smell his cologne.
Close enough that he quietly asked, “Still okay?”
You nodded. “Yeah, Are you?.”
A tiny smile spread across his face. “I really am.”
He brushed his thumb lightly along your jaw, not because the script said so because he wanted to. Then he kissed you, it was supposed to be a quick stage kiss.
Instead, it was slow. Curious. The kind of kiss where neither person rushed to be the first to pull away. You had expected to kiss him for the first time might be awkward, it might be rushed but it felt like two people who had built a life together. Imaginary or not.
The applause around you faded into meaningless background noise.
He smiled into the kiss, you did too.
Somewhere in the distance Rachel laughed. “Okay!”
Neither of you heard her. “Guys?”
Aerion’s hand had found the small of your back, you leaned instinctively closer. Wrapping your arms around his shoulders deepening the kiss with teeth, his tongue darted out catching you off guard but a small moan slipped into his mouth, a hand in his hair.
“Guys!” Nothing, Rachel walked onto the stage. She gently tapped Aerion’s shoulder, still nothing. Finally she wedged herself between the two of you, pushing lightly until you both stumbled half a step apart. “There!” She folded her arms. “I think we’ve established the chemistry.”
Neither of you looked at her, you were still looking at each other and each other only. Trying and failing not to smile.
Rachel cleared her throat. “So, what did you think of the exercise?”
Silence.
Aerion took your hand, his eyes stayed fixated. You intertwined your fingers with his without even noticing.
Rachel tried again. “Any feedback?”Nothing.
He leaned down, still smiling like an idiot.
“So…”
“Yeah?”
“My apartment’s ten minutes away.”
You laughed quietly. “To rehearse?”
“Obviously.”
“Obviously.”
You picked up your bag, he grabbed his jacket.
Rachel watched the pair of you walk straight past her as if she’d turned invisible. “Excuse me?”
No answer.
You were both too busy laughing as the studio door closed behind you, Rachel looked at the rest of the class and slowly shook her head. “I don’t know whether they were the best actors I’ve ever taught…” She smiled to herself. “or they stopped acting halfway through.”
As they reached his car, he unlocked it with a click and opened the passenger door for you.
You leaned against it instead of getting in. “So…” you said, folding your arms. “What’s the plan?” Aerion pretended to think, looking up at the evening sky as if weighing his options.
“Hm.”
“What?”
He looked back at you with a perfectly straight face, he pressed wedging you between his hips and the car door. A smile now on his face, “I guess we make a real Kevin.” His hands found your waist. You blinked. “What?” He shrugged. “We can’t exactly go back to the parenting class empty handed.”
You stared at him for a long moment.
“You are not serious.”
“We’ve built an entire backstory.”
“You forgot him.”
“I know.”
“It was your idea!”
“I’ve had time to reflect.” He nodded solemnly. “I owe Kevin an apology.”
You burst into laughter, doubling over against his shoulder. “Oh my God…”
“I’m just thinking long term.”
“You’ve known me for, what, two weeks?”
“Twelve days.”
“You counted?”
“I’ve got a spreadsheet.”
“You have not.”
“I’ve colour coded it.”
You laughed even harder.
When you finally caught your breath, you looked up to find him smiling at you, not the smug grin he wore when he won an argument, not the mischievous smile before another ridiculous prank. Just… a quiet one. “So,” he asked softly, “my place?”
You shook your head, still smiling. “Yeah.”
He opened the passenger door with a little bow. “And Kevin?” His eyebrows wiggled suggestively.
You climbed in. “We’ll discuss him after dinner.”
Aerion grinned to himself as he shut the door. “That’s the closest thing to a ‘maybe’ I’ve ever heard.”
Parenting Class
AU! Aerion Targaryen x Reader
Plot: You both matched on tinder, his chaotic personality asked you on a first date to Couples Therapy then Anger Management.
-•-
The parenting class was held in the function room, a lot more warmer and welcoming than the Anger Management class. Little drawings from young kids scattered the wall beside self help leaflets. You’d hope Aerion would grab a few of those, he needed serious help if this is how he spends his week, maybe you did too since you are willing to join.
There were biscuits.
A kettle.
A circle of hopeful looking couples and one laminated sign that read:
WELCOME, NEW PARENTS!
You stopped dead at the door. “This is a terrible idea.” Aerion looked around. “No…” He smiled. “This is our best one yet.”
“You realise these people are about to tell us about labour.” You grab at him, you knew how babies are made and born, you really hoped they didn’t go into the details of things stretching.
“I watched a documentary.”
“You watched one episode of animal planet.”
“I cried.”
You tapped the side of his shoulder while entering the room before him to find a seat, “It was emotional.” He scoffed behind you.
The instructor, Hannah, welcomed everyone inside. “Come and take a seat!”
You and Aerion squeezed into two chairs, he took your hand and rested it on his lap playing the devoted husband and father. He gave Hannah a small smile.
Hannah beamed. “So! Let’s go around and introduce ourselves.”
A lovely couple smiled. “We’re expecting twins.” The woman is HUGH, you and aerion both looked at each other in surprise that one woman could end up that size from babies.
Applause.
Another couple. “This is our first baby.”
Another couple. “Our baby is 2 months.”
More applause.
Then Hannah looked at you both. “And yourselves?”
Aerion smiled confidently. “I’m Aerion.”
You introduced yourself.
“And how old is your little one?”
Without missing a beat, Aerion answered, “Thirty four.”
The room went silent.
You looked at him. “Thirty? four?”
He frowned. “What?”
“Our baby?” You started, “is thirty four?”
“Oh.” He nodded. “Right.”
He looked back at Hannah.
“Three months.”
Hannah laughed politely. “And what’s your baby’s name?”
Aerion turned to you. “What is our baby’s name?”
You stared at him. “You don’t remember?”
His face filled with guilt. “Oh God…”
“You forgot our own child?” You faked a gasp, if you had pearls you’d be clunching them by now.
“I’ve been under so much pressure.” Aerion overrated a tap, fingers in his short silver hair. He looked at his hands and turned to the room. “I was a brunette last year.”
Several parents looked horrified.
You sighed dramatically. “It’s Kevin.”
A woman whispered to her husband.
“Poor Kevin.” He nodded in agreement.
The class moved on. “Has anyone been struggling with sleep?”
Hands shot up.
“It’s exhausting.”
“I’ve had three hours all week.”
Hannah nodded sympathetically. “And yourselves?”
You sighed. “Kevin sleeps through the night.”
Everyone stared. “You are so lucky!”
Aerion shook his head sadly. “Not really.”
“No?”
“He snores.”
“At three months?”
“He has the lungs of a rugby player.”
One father frowned. “Do babies snore?”
Aerion looked insulted. “Have you met Kevin?”
Next topic.
“Nappy changing.”
Hannah held up a doll. “Who usually changes the nappies?”
You immediately pointed at Aerion. “He does.”
He looked horrified. “I do?”
“You insisted.”
“I thought we took turns.”
“You said nappies build character.”
A woman smiled warmly. “That’s lovely.”
Aerion nodded slowly. “Yes, I definitely said that.”
Hannah handed him the demonstration doll. “Would you mind showing everyone?”
He accepted it confidently while he held it upside down.
The room collectively inhaled.
You gently turned the doll the right way around. “He’s had a long week.”
Later, Hannah asked “What milestones has your baby reached?”
You smiled proudly. “He’s crawling.”
Aerion nodded. “And taxes.”
You closed your eyes. “Aerion.”
“What?”
“Babies don’t do taxes.”
“Our Kevin’s advanced.”
The woman beside you finally asked the question. “How old did you say he was?”
“Three months.”
“And he’s crawling…”
“Yes.”
“Doing taxes.”
Aerion nodded. “He also has a LinkedIn and facebook.”
The room was beginning to suspect something, Hannah decided to ask something simple. “What brand of nappies do you use?”
You answered instantly. “Pampers.”
Aerion answered at exactly the same time. “Huggies.”
You both looked at each other, he narrowed his eyes. “So that’s where all the arguments started, you’ve changed.”
You crossed your arms and turned it face him in the plastic chair. “You used to believe in Pampers? Said they were leak proof.”
“I’ve grown.”
Hannah blinked. “You argued over nappies?”
Aerion scoffed. “We nearly divorced over nappies.”
One of the dads gasped. “You can get through it,” he offered sincerely.
Aerion patted his shoulder. “We’re not trying.”
Then came the practical exercise, each couple was handed one of those weighted baby dolls. “Imagine this is your baby.”
Aerion immediately cradled it. “He’s heavier than I expected.”
You smiled, he looked great holding a baby properly. You thought it was like one of those moments in a movie where a man spots his wife holding a baby and realises something, this was your moment. “He has your forehead.”
“He absolutely does.”
“You denied it at first.”
“I was scared .”
Hannah walked past. “Oh! That’s lovely. You’re already bonding.”
Aerion looked at the doll. “Would you still love me if I accidentally dropped him?”
Your eyes widened. “Accidentally?”
“I said if.”
“No.”
“Fair.”
As the session ended, Hannah stopped you both. “You two have such an… unusual dynamic.”
“Thank you,” Aerion said proudly.
She smiled. “So… where’s Kevin today?”
There was a long pause.
You looked at Aerion, aerion looked at you then, without absolute sincerity, he spoke. “Honestly? We forgot him.”
Hannah’s face drained of all colour, before she could reach for her phone, you burst into laughter so hard you doubled over.
Aerion followed a second later.
It took Hannah another ten seconds to realise there was no Kevin. “No baby?” she asked weakly.
“No baby,” you managed between laughs.
“No nappies?”
“No.”
“No sleepless nights?”
“No.”
“You’ve just… come here?”
Aerion nodded. “It was either this or bowling.”
Hannah stared at the pair of you for what felt like an eternity. Then she started laughing too, helpless, head back, tears in her eyes laughing. When she finally caught her breath, she pointed towards the exit. “I’m banning you.”
“Fair,” Aerion admitted.
“But…” She shook her head, still smiling.
“if you two ever do have children…” She looked between you both. “those poor, poor teachers.”
Anger Management
AU! Aerion Targaryen x f!reader.
Plot: after swiping right on tinder, the crazy man offered Couples Therapy as a first date. Few days later, he had a new date planned.
-•-
Three days later, Aerion texted.
Aerion: I have terrible news.
You frowned.
You: What?
Aerion: Our therapist discharged us.
You: We were never patients.
Aerion: Still hurts.
You laughed.
You: So… dinner?
A typing bubble appeared.
Disappeared.
Appeared again.
Aerion: Better.
Your stomach sank.
You: I don’t like that pause.
Aerion: Anger management.
You burst out laughing.
You: Absolutely not.
Aerion: Think about it.
You: I’m thinking.
Aerion: It’ll be funny.
You: It’ll be a criminal offence.
Aerion: Exactly.
-•-
Two hours later you were sitting beside him in a church hall on stackable plastic chairs.
A paper sign taped to the wall read:
WELCOME TO MANAGING OUR EMOTIONS
“You look happy,” you muttered.
“I’ve never been happier.”
“You genuinely need psychiatric help.”
He smiled. “I’ve been told.”
The instructor was a woman in her fifties named Denise, she radiated the sort of calm usually found in Buddhist monks. “Good evening, everyone.”
Aerion raised his hand immediately.
She smiled. “Yes?”
“When do we fight?”
Her smile vanished. “We don’t.”
“So why’s it called anger management?”
“Because we manage anger.”
“Oh.” He looked disappointed. “I thought we’d rank our enemies.” He scanned the crowd, trying to seem intimidating with eyes narrowed. He picked a man who started to squirm a little in the plastic chair.
You pinched the bridge of your nose, the group had already been quick to side eye him as being really odd.
The introductions began.
A burly man stood first.
“I’m Dave.”
“Hello, Dave.” We all greeted him, the hall echoed.
“I’ve got road rage.”
Everyone nodded supportively.
A woman spoke next. “I shout at my printer.” Again, supportive nods.
Then Denise smiled at Aerion. “And you?”
He stood confidently. “I’m Aerion.” Hands clasped behind his back.
“Welcome, Aerion.”
“I don’t think I have anger issues.”
You slowly turned towards him, arms crossed and waited as he continued.
“I just believe other people should stop being wrong.”
Several people looked up.
One man actually stopped writing.
Denise smiled politely. “And what brings you here today?”
Aerion pointed at you. “She.”
Your jaw dropped. “Me?”
“She weaponises sarcasm.”
“You told a pigeon to ‘watch its mouth’ yesterday.”
“It looked disrespectful.”
“It was eating a fry!”
“It knew what it was doing.”
Denise turned to you. “And your name?”
You smiled sweetly.
“I’m here because he’s impossible.”
Aerion gasped. “Impossible?”
“You thanked an automatic door.”
“It opened.”
“It sensed movement!”
“It didn’t have to.”
Denise clapped her hands. “Wonderful. Let’s try an exercise.” She placed a tennis ball in the middle of the circle.
“When you’re holding the ball, you’re the only one allowed to speak.”
She handed it to Aerion.
He nodded. “I feel unheard.”
You snorted.
He ignored you. “I also feel judged.” He quickly glanced at you.
The ball came to you. “I judge him because yesterday he tried to negotiate with a self checkout.”
“It accused me of stealing.”
“You hadn’t scanned the milk.”
Half the room was trying not to laugh.
Denise persisted. “What emotions does that make you feel?”
Aerion answered before you could “Betrayed.”
The tennis ball came back to you.
“Last week,” you said, “he called customer services because his toast landed butter side down.”
A woman across the circle covered her mouth. “You actually did that?”
Aerion nodded proudly. “They deserved to know.”
Denise inhaled slowly. “Let’s all take a calming breath.”
Everyone complied.
Aerion looked around. “This is a cult.”
“No, Aerion.” Denise looked as if he was getting on her last nerve, maybe she needed to attend angry management rather than hosting it.
“It feels cultish.”
“Now,” Denise said, “I’d like everyone to share something that recently made them angry.”
People gave sensible answers.
“My neighbour.”
“Traffic.”
“My ex husband.”
“My kids.”
Then it reached Aerion.
He didn’t hesitate. “The moon.”
Silence.
“The moon?”
“It keeps following me.”
You slid lower in your chair, a hand over your eyes in embarrassment.
“It has for years.”
Denise blinked. “That’s…”
He leaned forward. “Suspicious.”
The room had started laughing openly now.
Even Denise smiled despite herself.
She pointed at you. “And what about you?”
You looked at Aerion. “He alphabetises my spices.”
“I was helping.”
“You put paprika under ‘S.’”
“‘Spicy.’”
“It starts with P!”
“It identifies as spicy.”
By the end of the session, Denise looked ten years older, as everyone stood to leave, she stopped the two of you.
“I have to ask…” You both looked innocent. “You don’t actually have anger issues… do you?”
Aerion answered honestly. “No.”
She sighed. “I thought so.”
“We’re just on a first date.”
“A first date?”
“We thought this would be more memorable than mini golf.”
Denise stared at the two of you then, against every professional instinct she possessed, she laughed. “You know…” she said, shaking her head, “I’ve been running this group for fourteen years.”
She pointed between you. “You two haven’t stopped trying to make each other laugh for two solid hours.”
Neither of you answered.
She smiled knowingly. “I don’t think either of you came here for anger management.”
Aerion glanced sideways at you. “No?”
Denise smiled.
He looked at you for a moment before saying, “Would it ruin the moment if I admitted I already have another terrible first date idea?”
You folded your arms.
“I’m listening.”
His grin was immediate.
“I found a parenting class down the hall in 10 minutes.”
You stared at him. “We don’t even own a houseplant.”
“I know.” He wiggled his eyebrows. “I want to see how long it takes before they realise we don’t have a baby.”
You covered your face, laughing so hard your sides hurt. “You are the stupidest man I’ve ever met.”
He offered you his arm with exaggerated pride. “And you’re already saying yes.”
You took his arm. “I really, really hate how right you are.”
Couples Therapy.
AU! Aerion Targaryen x F!Reader.
Plot: They matched on tinder, Aerion suggested a first date. Couples Therapy.
You matched with him at 08:17 on a Tuesday morning, bored and swiping left on everyone until he caught your attention.
His profile should’ve made you swipe left.
It didn’t.
Aerion, 26
Lawyer, 5’9. I once argued with a parking meter and won.
His photos were equally infuriating.
One in a tailored suit.
One hiking.
One holding an enormous snake with the caption:
“He’s called Steve. We co-parent.”
You laughed.
He was either the funniest man alive or clinically insane.
You swiped right.
It’s a match.
Aerion: I have an idea.
You: That was fast.
Aerion: I don’t believe in small talk.
You: Red flag.
Aerion: First date.
You: Go on.
Aerion: Couples therapy.
You frowned.
You: We’re not a couple??
Aerion: Exactly.
You: Explain.
Aerion: We convince a therapist we’ve been together for years and see how long it takes them to realise we’ve never actually met.
You laughed so loudly at the idea that your cat jumped from wherever it had been hiding and skidded out the room.
You: That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.
Aerion: Is that a yes?
-•-
“And what brings you both here today?” The therapist smiled warmly, crossing her legs over each other and clicking her pen down.
Before you could answer, Aerion sighed the sigh of a man carrying the weight of the world. “She doesn’t love me anymore.”
You looked at him with genuine offence. “I don’t?”
“You haven’t touched me in months.”
The therapist nodded sympathetically as if taking his side already, “Oh…” she began scribbling on her notepad while looking at you both.
You scoffed. “That’s because you hiss at me when I try.”
Aerion looked offended. “I hissed once.”
“It was at my grandmother.”
“She startled me.”
The therapist’s pen paused. “She startled you? The grandmother?”
“She came around the corner very quickly.” Aerion smiled, crossing his own legs as if mimicking the therapist’s composure.
“So, intimacy has become difficult?”
You nodded sadly. “He keeps saying he’s too tired.”
Aerion rubbed his forehead. “I work sixty hours a week.”
The therapist smiled. “That’s understandable.”
You folded your arms. “He works in IT.”
Aerion blinked. “I do?”
“You’ve worked from home for three years.”
“I thought I was an architect.”
“You were last week.”
The therapist frowned. “Last week?”
“He changes careers every time we argue,” you explained. “Last month he was a marine biologist.”
“I like whales.”
“You get seasick in the bath.”
By now you had both been struggling not to laugh but kept up the charade.
The therapist carefully changed direction. “So… what was the last argument about?”
You answered immediately. “The swans.”
Aerion closed his eyes. “Not this again.”
“He insisted he could beat one in a fight.”
“I said defend myself.”
“You squared up to it!”
“It approached me aggressively.”
“You honked back!”
“It understood.”
The therapist blinked several times. “I’m sorry…” she had taken her glasses off by now, growing frustrated.
“It was a misunderstanding,” Aerion assured her “The swan apologised.”
She looked exhausted already. “What does Aerion do that makes you feel unappreciated?”
You sighed dramatically, turning and taking his hands. “He never compliments me.”
Aerion looked wounded. “I absolutely do.”
“When?”
“I told you your passport photo looked… legal.”
“That’s not a compliment.”
“I said you have symmetrical ears.”
“You measured them!”
“They’re incredibly symmetrical.”
The therapist turned to him. “And what makes you feel unloved?”
Aerion looked at you sadly. “She refuses to support my dreams.”
You rolled your eyes. “Because they’re ridiculous.”
“I wanted alpacas.”
“You wanted 12 alpacas.”
“They would’ve paid for themselves.” By now his voice started to crack, a laughter fighting but he composed himself seriously.
“You don’t know how.”
“I would’ve asked one.”
The therapist coughed into the back of her hand. “Let’s try something different.” She smiled. “I’d like each of you to say one thing your partner does well.”
You smiled sweetly. “He’s fantastic at apologising.”
Aerion nodded. “I’ve had a lot of practice.”
He looked at you, then towards the therapist when she asked him what he liked about you.
“She’s an incredible liar.”
The therapist smiled. “Oh, that’s nice.”
“No,” Aerion said. “Professionally.”
You gasped. “I lied once.”
“You convinced my parents you were allergic to Mondays.”
“They still believe it.”
The therapist’s eye twitched. “I think… we’re getting somewhere.”
Aerion nodded solemnly. “I agree.”
He reached over and took your hand. “I just wish she’d look at me the way she used to.”
You squeezed his hand. “I do.”
“No.”
“I literally am.”
“Not with the same sparkle.”
You narrowed your eyes. “What sparkle?”
“The one from 2019.”
“We met in 2021.”
“Did we?” You both stared at each other.
The therapist slowly lowered her notebook. “Hang on.”
Aerion frowned. “What?”
“You said you’ve been together eight years.”
“Correct.”
“But… you just said you met in 2021.”
Silence.
You looked at Aerion.
He looked at you, then he smiled. “I think she’s onto us.”
The therapist frowned. “Onto what?”
You couldn’t hold it anymore. “We matched on Tinder this morning.”
The room fell silent.
“Excuse me?”
“We’ve known each other,” Aerion checked his watch, “approximately three hours.”
The therapist stared. “You’ve never dated?”
“No.”
“Never kissed?”
“No.”
“You’ve never even met before today?”
“No.”
She looked between you both for a long, painful moment, then she quietly stood up. “I’m just going to…” She pointed vaguely toward the door.“rethink my career.”
As she disappeared into the hallway, Aerion leaned towards you. “So…”
You grinned. “Second date?”
He smiled. “Anger management?”

Unknown Number:
this still your number?
You looked at the number with a curious frown before typing back.
You: Who’s asking?
Unknown Number: Shawn.
You: Right.
You: What do you want?
You almost groaned, how the fuck did he get my number? You quickly saved it to something fitting.
🐊: you busy
You: At one in the morning?
🐊: that ain’t an answer.
You: It was enough of one.
🐊: come over.
You stared at message for a moment, grimacing to yourself.
You: Have we ever actually had a conversation?
🐊: we’re havin’ one now.
You: No, you’re sending me demands.
🐊: don’t make it complicated.
You: Complicated?
🐊: yeah. come over. we’ll figure the rest out.
He’s either confident, stupid or drunk. You’d hope it was drunk and stupid.
You: Shawn… are you drunk?
🐊: little bit.
You: Little bit?
🐊: enough.
You: So you got drunk, found my number, and thought I’d be interested?
🐊: worth askin’.
You: No, it really wasn’t, we’ve barely spoken.
🐊: seen you around.
You: I know.
You thought about all the run ins at parties, in town. His little group of friends that just screamed ‘I’ll rob you for fun.’ Bunch of losers.
🐊: you always smile then disappear.
You: Because you’re usually headed my way.
🐊: thought maybe tonight you’d quit runnin’.
Oh, the arrogance. You caught yourself smiling though.
You: I wasn’t running, i was avoiding you.
Seen.
putting your phone down, he didn’t message you back for at least 6 minutes.. 6 minutes of peace and quiet, you hopefully thought he had passed out.
🐊: that’s kinda rude.
You: You’re texting a girl you’ve barely exchanged ten words with asking her to come over for a quick fuck.
🐊: it wouldn’t have been quick figured i’d shoot my shot.
You smacked yourself, catching a small blush.
You: You fired it into the ocean.
🐊: hell.
You: Do yourself a favour.
🐊: what’s that
You: Delete my number, drink some water, and bother literally anyone else.
🐊: you always this mean?
You: Only to river rat losers who think “come over” counts as flirting.
A full minute passes.
🐊: 😂 aight.
🐊: still would’ve been fun.
You: Goodnight, Shawn.
🐊: yeah yeah.
10 minutes went by, you found yourself suckling at your vape as if it was fresh air, annoyed. Interest possibly peaked.
You: Can I ask you something?
His reply comes almost instantly.
🐊: knew it.
You: Knew what?
🐊: you got curious.
🐊: wanna see what you could be riding?
You silently dry heaved, oh god no!
You: Please, don’t get ahead of yourself.
You: I have one question.
🐊: go on then.
You: Why me?
The typing bubble appears, disappears… then comes back.
🐊: that’s the question you ask when you’re thinkin’ about it.
You scoffed, the audacity of this man.
You: No, it’s the question I ask before blocking someone.
🐊: nah.
🐊: if you were gonna block me, you’d have done it five minutes ago.
You hate that he’s got a point.
You: You’re unbelievably full of yourself.
🐊: never said i wasn’t.
You: Answer the question.
🐊: cause i wanted you.
You: You don’t even know me.
🐊: don’t gotta.
🐊: i got eyes.
You: Ew, you’re disgusting.
🐊: still got you textin’ me.
You stare at that for a second, again.. another point. Damn him! You could imagine if sitting on his sofa, leg up on a coffee table in those ridiculous bright orange shorts.
You: You’re confusing disbelief with interest.
🐊: whatever helps you sleep.
You: You’re a dick.
🐊: and yet…
You: Finish that sentence and I’ll block you.
Fuck sake, you caught yourself smiling at the messages.
🐊: 😂
🐊: you ain’t blocked me yet.
You: I’m deciding if you’re entertaining enough to keep around as a cautionary tale.
🐊: nah you’re decidin’ if i’m as much of an asshole in person.
You: I already know the answer.
🐊: you think you do.
You: You’re awfully confident for a man who just got rejected.
🐊: did i?
You: Yes.
🐊: don’t feel like it.
You: Why?
🐊: ‘cause if you’d really wanted me gone.
🐊: this conversation would’ve ended ten minutes ago.
You typed, deleted it, typed again. DAMN IT! Is this flirting? It feels like flirting.
You: Goodnight, Shawn.
🐊: night.
🐊: i’ll hear from you again.
Thankfully you don’t hear from him again, son of a bitch. Few days has passed and you hadn’t even seen him in town, or maybe you just grew to avoid him and his friends naturally. He is hot, in a way.. you cursed yourself, promising to go to church more with mama if you could forget about his arrogant ass.
Then it came, that dreadful ping of a notification while eating dinner.
🐊: you alive
You: Unfortunately.
🐊: still got my number.
You: Unfortunately.
🐊: 😂
🐊: thought about bouncin’ on it then?
You: Don’t ruin my afternoon.
🐊: so you did.
That bastard!
You: You’re exhausting.
🐊: you keep replyin’.
You: I’m beginning to think you’re physically incapable of losing an argument.
🐊: damn right.
🐊: come get a drink tonight.
You: Still no.
🐊: why
You: Because I don’t know you.
🐊: that’s kinda the point.
You: No, your point was ‘come over.’
🐊: yeah.
🐊: different offer.
You: Is it?
🐊: public place.
🐊: hour or two.
🐊: if you still think i’m an asshole, you can leave.
You’re thinking about it, you’re thinking about his mouth on your neck. You’re thinking about all the dirty and wild things he could do you but you avoided him for a reason, you told yourself he smelled funny but whenever you got close enough, he smelt like an ordinary man, that was it.. He’s a man, a rough man. FUCK! You cursed yourself again.
🐊: there’s that thinkin’ again.
You: Don’t start.
🐊: you’re considerin’ it.
You: I’m considering whether this is the beginning of a true crime documentary.
🐊: hell, if you wanted me to kidnap you all you gotta do is ask. 😉
Ew, did he just use an emoji??
You: Comforting.
🐊: was supposed to be baby.
You shake your head, licking your lips and swallowing hard enough you nearly choked.
You: Hypothetically…
🐊: here we go.
You: If and that’s a very big if, I agreed…
🐊: yeah?
You: It would be somewhere busy.
You: Somewhere with lots of people.
You: I’m getting there on my own.
🐊: didn’t ask to pick you up.
You: and if you’re as much of a jerk in person as you are over text
🐊: when?
You: IF!
You clarified.
🐊: sure.
You: I leave, Immediately.
🐊: then leave.
You: You’re taking this rejection surprisingly well.
🐊: ain’t rejection.
🐊: sounds like i just talked you into a drink.
You stare at the message, already regretting it.
You: You are unbelievably smug.
🐊: earned it.
You: Don’t make me change my mind.
🐊: you won’t.
You: You have an answer for everything, don’t you?
You: Tomorrow, 6. One drink at Millers.
🐊: thought you said you hated me.
You: I do.
🐊: guess i’ll have to work with that.
You: Don’t get your hopes up.
🐊: wouldn’t dream of it.
You lay your phone on your chest, hand rested on your forehead with a deep exhale wondering what you’d gotten yourself into. You signed loudly in annoyance when another text came through.
🐊: wear somethin’ tight tho.
🐊: I’m a fan of when they jiggle.
You scrunched up your face, ew.

You both lay in bed, lazily on a Sunday afternoon after a weekend of behaving like drunken idiots that laughed together and wound up other.
His arm is rest behind his head with his back against the pillow staring at the television playing a rerun of nonsense but you enjoyed the show, about magic and knights, monsters and dragons. He only cared for the dragon parts, he thought they looked magnificent.
Bellowing out a puff off smoke you held in your lungs for too long, a small cough escaped. “Here.” You lazily past the joint, he took it happily and rested it between his lips, the roach soggy from having it sat between your lips for too long. He inhaled deeply letting it fester for a moment before putting it in the ashtray and rolling on top off you, nestling between your thighs. You went to ask what he was doing but his mouth was on yours, exhaling the smoke into your mouth that you inhaled like perfume, stinging your nose as it breathed out like smoke from a dragon.
Aerion gripped your thigh, the black ring on his thumb that he played with while nervous dug into your skin. Wrapping your arms around his neck like a snaked you rolled hips upwards to meet his boxer covered cock earning a groan of satisfaction, one that screamed he was happy you felt the exact way he did. A kiss with Aerion was never gentle, it was never soft and sweet but vicious, all teeth and tongues.. you could have swore if his tongue was long enough it would reach the back of your throat if possible, he’d like that.
“Do you trust me?” He pressed his forehead against yours, his chest rumbling and restless. “Yes.” You breathed, his mouth back on yours. His fingers took your chin pulling your mouth downwards, “close your eyes.” He whispered and you did as told, trusting him fully. His tongue sliding in again, the corners of your mouth hurting the skin surely had cracked. Eyes closed you felt his fingers down at your underwear, once yank and they torn free from the front crotch. You dared to open your eyes but he met them, “fucking close them.” He snapped like a dog, you had never met a man like him, you met him at a bar over a year ago and thought he’d never be interested but he asked for your number, he messaged you a few days later asking for your location, 15 minutes later and he was there..
30 minutes later and you were bent over the hood off his car, screaming his name into the night and neither of you looked back, matching each others freak perfectly.
His hands roamed up and down your knees and thighs, leaving goosebumps behind. You felt him pull away, only to return seconds later, his fingers played with you easily and gently stroking you. You silently moaned his name when he slid two fingers inside you, curling up giving you the urge to pee. You bit your lower lip, eyes still closed. He works up his speed faster fingers spreading and unspreading inside you.. you whimpered at the loss of his touch when he pulled them out. “Relax, trust me.” He whispered quietly, fingers kneading your thighs gently.
That’s when you felt it, something cold and uninviting at your entrance. Eyes startled open, peering down. His cock hard in his boxers, dampness appearing from the leaks. You followed his arm, to his hand and in his hand he held his pride and joy, his gun. His more favourable weapon other than his mouth or fists.
“No, no-“ you tried to pull away but he held you in place. His eyes burning in excitement. “it’s not loaded, i promise. Do you trust me?” He licked his lips softly, tilting his head. All the possibilities flashed, getting shot in the pussy was one of them. “Just let me try, if you don’t like it I’ll stop.” You nodded, trusting him and slowly laying back hands on your chest looking at the ceiling. Your brain was fogged, frightened but also aroused.
It sat heavily in his hand, compact but solid, its weight a quiet reminder of what it was capable off, he slid the barrel in slowly, testing the waters while watching. His cock a painful reminder that he is enjoying this. The polymer grip was cool against his palm, textured just enough to keep it from slipping as he pulled it back out again, his right hand followed down the natural curve of your leg and thigh and found your clit giving it a rub between two fingers.
The matte black finish swallowed the light, giving it a plain, almost unremarkable appearance and now he’s watching it fuck you. His speed never changed, he stayed slow. “You like that?” He looked up, your eyes are closed but fingers moving and pulling at your taunt nipples from enjoyment, your lips part to speak but no words come out, only a moan of his name and a roll of your hips.
It was surprisingly dense for its size, the kind of weight that settled into his palm with undeniable finality. He licks his own lips, moving a little faster. “fuck baby, you look so good fucking my gun.” You looked at his face, the smirk that screamed yes, am dangerous. “It’s weird.” You breathed a laugh, only to moan louder as his fingers on your clit became a little rougher and firmer. “You’ll come on my gun, won’t you?”
Yes, yes you would. All thoughts gone out the window, no words could be spoken apart from mental ramblings of his name. Arms stretching above your head, you hooked your fingers over the headboard that rocked silently against the wall. “Come for me.” Aerion bowed his head down, never changing the speed of his gun coming in and out of you, his mouth found the top of your mound and sent you over the edge as his tongue found your clit with experience. Knees pulling up further, stomach twisting and clenching down hard, you came over his weapon and tongue.
Body violently trembling, trying to come down from its peak. You heard him chuckle to himself, withdrawing his gun from between your legs and placing it on the nightstand. “You did so well.” He kissed your neck, you looked at it just resting where it always rested, soaked by you. You turned your head and kissed him.
Amnesia ~ pt.3
Aerion Targaryen x f!reader. (He’s named her.)
Warnings: +18, MDNI, NSFW. P n V
The corridors of Summerhall were quieter than they had been in weeks.
Tomorrow, they would be filled with nobles.
Tomorrow, the sept would be overflowing.
Tomorrow, Prince Aerion Targaryen would take a bride.
Aerion wandered the castle long after everyone else had retired. In one hand, he carried a single white rose he’d stolen from the gardens that afternoon and in the other, an apology up his sleeve for the previous night’s behaviour.
It had looked perfect when he’d plucked it now, after absentmindedly twirling it between his fingers for the better part of an hour, half its leaves had fallen away. “Pathetic,” he muttered to the flower but more about himself.
He stopped outside her chambers.
The guards bowed. “My prince.”
He pushed open the door without ceremony. “Alyssa?”
No answer.
The room was empty.
The candles still burned.
Her wedding gown stood upon a mannequin near the hearth, embroidered with silver dragons and crimson thread.
The bed was untouched.
Aerion frowned and for a fleeting moment, something cold settled in his chest.
Then he scoffed at himself. “Gods.”
He turned and headed back into the corridor.
-•-
He knew exactly where she’d be.
The gardens.
She always wandered to the gardens.
Sure enough… She sat beneath the great oak, knees tucked beneath her gown, watching the stars through the branches above.
She didn’t hear him approach.
“I’ve been looking everywhere.”
She looked over her shoulder. “I’m sorry.”
“You’ve become rather fond of apologising.” He mused, stepping one foot in front of the other.
“I thought I worried you.” She looked at her wrist, the bruising from his fingers now a dark shade of purple.
“No, i was inconvenienced.” He tried to be playful, failing but a small smile still tugged at her lips. “My mistake.”
“It was.” He stepped beside her and held out the rose. “I brought you this.”
Her smile softened. “For me?”
He looked at the flower. “I was going to eat it but, think you’d appreciate it more.”
She laughed quietly. “I’ll save you from that, then.” She accepted it carefully. She had wondered might the prince be similar to a rose? Beautiful but covered in thorns. As soon as she took it, another leaf drifted lazily onto the grass.
She looked down before laughing again.
“I think it’s dying.” She turned the stem between her fingers. “I think it’s prettier like this.” He admitted, “With half of it missing?” She looked up at him then back at the wilted rose. She had been correct.
“It isn’t perfect, neither am I.” Aerion looked at her for a long moment, his voice was surprisingly quiet.
“You aren’t.” She looked up. “I thought princes preferred perfection.”
“I prefer honesty.” He lowered himself beside her, stretching one leg out across the grass.
She raised an eyebrow. “That’s an unexpected answer.”
“I’ve never claimed to be a good man.”
For several moments, they simply listened to the wind moving through the trees.
Finally, Aerion spoke. “My father wanted me to tell you something, that I should promise you’ll always be happy.”
She smiled faintly. “That’s sweet of him.”
“I won’t.”
Her smile faded.
He looked straight ahead. “I don’t make promises I can’t keep, I won’t promise patience.” He picked a blade of grass from the ground. “I won’t promise kindness every day.” Another pause.
“I won’t promise I’ll suddenly become gentle because I’m married.”
She listened without interrupting.
“I am what I am.” He shrugged. His violet eyes found hers. “If you’re waiting for me to wake tomorrow a different man…” He shook his head once. “don’t.”
She searched his face. “You really believe people can’t change?”
“I believe people pretend to.”
“And you?”
“I don’t pretend.”
She lowered her gaze to the flower in her lap, another leaf slipped free. “I think…” She spoke so softly he almost didn’t hear her. “there must be kindness in you.”
Aerion laughed. “You’ve spent too much time with my uncle.”
“He speaks highly of you.”
“Then he’s becoming sentimental in his old age.”
“He said you laugh less than you used to.” Aerion’s smile disappeared.
The silence returned, it wasn’t uncomfortable. Only… thoughtful.
Finally, she spoke again. “I’m frightened.”
He looked at her. “Of tomorrow?”
She nodded. “I don’t remember my family, i don’t remember ever wanting to be married, I don’t remember…” Her voice wavered. “falling in love.”
Aerion watched her for several long seconds, without his usual arrogance or mockery, he reached over and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. Her eyes shined like the steam of the rose, bright green. A remarkable and strong colour.
His fingers lingered against her cheek, “You did.” He exhaled.
She looked into his eyes. “I did?”
A faint, crooked smile appeared. “You were impossible, you argued with me constantly.”
“I find that hard to believe.”
“You lost every argument.”
She smiled. “I think that’s the lie.”
“It probably is.”
She laughed quietly. “There you are.”
“What?” She fiddled with her sleeve again, it caught his attention. A wave of shame rolled his body, he didn’t mean to hurt her. ‘You choose this, she didn’t.’ His father’s voice in his ear.
“I’ve missed that laugh.”
She blinked. “You have?”
“It suits you.” The words escaped before he could stop them, for the first time in his life he felt annoyed with himself, a battle to tell her the truth but also an internal battle that said she’d leave and she’d have every right to leave.
He cleared his throat. “I’ve kissed you before.”
She froze. “You have?” She looked embarrassed, he chuckled lightly to himself. “Several times.”
“I don’t remember.”
His thumb brushed lightly beneath her jaw. “But I do.” He tilted her chin upward, his confidence never faltered.
Hers almost did.
“If you don’t want me to…” he said quietly, “say so.”
She searched his face for sincerity, then gave the smallest nod.
Aerion closed the distance between them, the kiss was slow. Certain.
He kissed as though he had every right to, almost cautiously, her fingers tightening around the stem of the rose until another leaf floated silently to the ground.
When he drew back, their foreheads rested together. “There.” His voice was barely above a whisper. “You remembered enough.” She looked down at the fading flower in her hands.
“I hope tomorrow goes well.”
Aerion smirked. “It will.”
“And if you’re wrong?”
He stood, offering her his hand. “I’m Prince Aerion Targaryen.” The familiar arrogance returned to his smile. “I rarely concern myself with being wrong.”
She slipped her hand into his, as he helped her to her feet. Catching a glimpse of her wrist he brought it to his lips never breaking contact and placed a small kiss that screamed of an apology.
The wind caught the rose one final time, the last leaf broke free and disappeared into the darkness behind them, unnoticed by either of them as they walked back towards the lights of Summerhall together.
-•-
The bells of Summerhall began ringing at sunrise, their deep voices rolled across the hills, announcing a royal wedding to every soul within earshot. Servants hurried through the corridors carrying flowers, bolts of silk and polished silver.
The kitchens were alive with noise.
The sept filled steadily with lords, ladies and knights dressed in their finest colours, Everywhere.. There was excitement.
-•-
Her chambers buzzed with activity.
Handmaidens laced ribbons through her hair.
Another adjusted the sleeves of her gown.
A third knelt to smooth the long train of white silk embroidered with crimson dragons that trailed behind her.
“You look beautiful.”
“So beautiful.”
“A true princess.”
She caught her own reflection in the polished silver mirror and for a long moment…She barely recognised herself.
A gentle knock sounded.
The handmaidens glanced towards the door.
Prince Baelor entered with his usual quiet dignity, his neatly kept beard was streaked with more silver than black today, his mismatched eyes warm despite the solemnity of the occasion.
“My lady.” He inclined his head respectfully. “If I may…” He looked towards the women gathered around her.“I should like a private word with the bride.”
The room immediately fell silent.
One by one the handmaidens curtsied before quietly filing from the chamber.
The door closed behind the last of them.
-•-
The bells rang once more.
Aerion stood before the altar beneath the seven pointed crystal, He wore black velvet trimmed with crimson, the three headed dragon of House Targaryen stitched proudly across his breast.
For perhaps the first time in his life Prince Aerion Targaryen looked genuinely restless.
Aegon stood beside their father in the front pew, swinging his legs impatiently.
Daeron was already nursing wine from a silver cup despite the early hour.
Maekar noticed. “You couldn’t wait?”
Daeron grinned. “I did wait.”
“It is barely morning.”
“I waited until barely morning.”
Maekar sighed.
The great doors opened.
Every conversation ceased.
Aerion looked up and forgot to breathe.
She stepped into the sept bathed in morning light, white silk shimmered with every careful step, silver thread caught the sunlight like frost.
A delicate veil rested over her hair, framing a face that seemed almost unreal.
She was breathtaking.
For a heartbeat, the prince who mocked everything, the prince who laughed at sentiment, the prince who had never once believed the songs of courtly love…
Simply stared.
The arrogance left his face.
The smirk disappeared.
Something softer settled there instead.
Wonder.
By the Seven, she was beautiful.
She reached the altar.
Aerion offered his arm almost automatically.
She accepted it with a nervous smile.
“You look…” he murmured. She waited.
“better than I imagined.” She laughed softly. “I thought princes were supposed to be poetic.”
“I’ve never been very good at pretending.”
The High Septon began the ceremony.
The vows echoed beneath the crystal ceiling.
Hands were joined.
Promises spoken.
Cloaks exchanged.
When at last they were pronounced husband and wife, the bells rang louder than before.
Applause filled the sept.
Aerion looked at his bride.
His wife.
Tonight.
He would tell her everything.
Every lie.
Auradon.
The forest.
The accident.
He had rehearsed the words a hundred times.
She deserved the truth.
Whatever happened afterwards he would face it.
-•-
The celebration lasted until evening.
Music poured into the castle courtyards.
Tables bent beneath roasted meats, sweetcakes and overflowing goblets of wine.
Children darted between nobles without a care in the world.
Aegon came charging across the hall.
“There you are!” A small grey kitten shot between guests’ feet with its tail held proudly aloft. Aegon laughed, chasing after it. “Come back!”
The kitten ignored him entirely, disappearing beneath the high table.
“I nearly had him!” Aegon complained to anyone willing to listen. “You’ve nearly had him all week,” Daeron called, raising another goblet, his words slurred together. Aegon stuck out his tongue before diving after the cat once again.
Nearby, Daeron had somehow convinced three hedge knights that he could still outdrink every man in the room.
Maekar wisely refused to wager on it.
“My princess.” She turned.
Standing before her was a young knight she had not met before.
Tall.
Broad shouldered.
Handsome in a quieter way than Aerion.
His hair brown with an unmistakable flash of Targaryen silver along the side and his expression carried the same calm dignity she’d noticed in Prince Baelor, his eyes were kind. “Forgive me.”
He bowed deeply. “I wished to introduce myself.”
She returned the gesture. “I’m afraid we’ve not met.”
“No.” He smiled. “I’m Prince Valarr, the son of Prince Baelor. It is an honour.”
“The honour is mine, Your Grace.”
There was something remarkably gentle about him, Aerion’s voice interrupted from behind. Valarr turned. “Cousin.”
Aerion clasped his shoulder briefly.
“You’ve finally escaped King’s Landing.”
“For a few days.”
“My condolences.”
Valarr chuckled. “I’ll survive.”
Aerion’s hand found his wife’s almost instinctively. “The musicians are waiting.” She looked towards the centre of the hall.
Every eye had turned towards them.
“Our dance.” She nodded while aerion led her onto the polished floor.
The first notes of a slow melody drifted through the hall, one hand rested lightly against her waist and the other held hers.
His violet eyes never left hers. She searched his face, almost expecting one of his usual quips but instead found there was an intensity there she’d never seen before.
Possessive.
Protective.
The hall blurred into candlelight and distant music.
Lords and ladies watched in respectful silence.
Even Daeron lowered his goblet for a moment.
Only the crackle of the fires and the musicians’ gentle tune remained as the prince and his new bride turned slowly across the floor, neither speaking a single word.
The music lingered long after the first dance had ended.
Neither of them had spoken a word.
The applause finally broke the silence.
Aerion inclined his head only slightly before leading his wife from the centre of the floor.
Almost immediately they were surrounded.
Lords bowed.
Ladies curtsied.
Congratulations came from every direction.
“Your Highness.”
“A beautiful ceremony.”
“The Seven smile upon this union.”
Aerion endured each well wisher with remarkable patience, for nearly ten whole minutes.
Then his smile began to tighten.
By the fifteenth… He was visibly irritated.
When the eighteenth lord attempted to recount the history of his own marriage, Aerion interrupted him halfway through.
“Fascinating.” He wasn’t listening. “But you’ll forgive me if I prefer the company of my wife.”
The old lord wisely bowed himself away.
She looked up at him. “That wasn’t very kind.”
“It wasn’t meant to be.”
“You’ve offended him.”
“He’ll recover.”
“You don’t know that.”
“He’ll either recover or die.” He shrugged. “At his age, either seems equally likely.”
She couldn’t help it, a laugh escaped her.
“There.” Aerion smirked. “I knew you preferred my company.”
“I never said that.”
“You laughed.”
“At the poor lord.”
“You laughed because of me.”
She rolled her eyes. “You are impossible.”
“So I’ve been told.” His hand settled lightly against the small of her back as they walked.
Every few moments another guest attempted to stop them.
Every few moments Aerion found increasingly inventive ways to avoid conversation.
He took a sip from the goblet a passing servant offered him. “But half the realm believes you to be impossible.” There was that smile again, the one that was handsome enough to hide how dangerous it truly was. “You’ll grow used to it.”
Before she could answer.
“AERION!” Daeron stumbled across the hall with a wineskin in one hand and an arm slung around the shoulders of a thoroughly embarrassed hedge knight.
“There you are!”
“I’ve been avoiding you.”
“I know!” Daeron beamed. “You’ve done exceptionally well.” He looked at the bride. “You married him!”
“I did.”
“You poor girl.” Aerion snorted.
“I’ve been told the same.” She admitted,
Daeron burst into laughter. “Oh, I like her already.” He leaned far too close. “If he becomes a bore..” he stopped for a second, a devilish smile on his lips. “come and find me.”
Aerion folded his arms. “What exactly are you proposing?”
“I don’t know.” Daeron frowned thoughtfully. “I’ve forgotten.” He stared into his empty cup. “Where did my wine go?”
“You drank it.”
“I did?”
“Repeatedly.”
Daeron looked genuinely offended.
“Who allowed that?” With that profound observation, he wandered away in search of another goblet.
She watched him disappear. “He’s…”
“Drunk.”
“I was going to say entertaining.”
“He becomes both after enough wine.”
“He seems to love you.”
Aerion looked after his brother for a moment. “He tolerates me.”
“That’s not what I saw.”
“No?”
“He looked happy today.”
Aerion didn’t answer instead, he glanced across the hall, his father stood speaking quietly with Baelor. Neither man had taken their eyes off him for very long all evening. “They’re watching us.”
She followed his gaze. “They’re watching you.”
“They’re waiting.”
“For what?”
He looked back at her. “For me to ruin something.”
“You won’t.”
For several moments he simply looked at her then, unexpectedly, he laughed.
A quiet laugh. “You may be right.” He offered her his arm once more. “Come.”
“Where?”
“Away from everyone.”
“But it’s our wedding.”
“Precisely.” He looked around the crowded hall with obvious disdain. “I’ve fulfilled my duty.”
She laughed again, this time, he found himself smiling before he could stop it.
He led her through the great doors and out into the cool evening air. Behind them, the celebration carried on without its bride and groom.
Inside the hall, Prince Baelor watched them disappear into the darkness beyond the torchlight.
Maekar appeared beside him. “They’ve gone.”
“I see.”
“They won’t be back tonight.”
Baelor’s gaze remained fixed on the doorway. “No.”
After a long silence, Maekar spoke quietly. “Do you think he’s finally become the man we hoped he might be?”
Baelor watched the empty entrance for another moment before answering.
“I think…” His mismatched eyes reflected the flickering candlelight. “he has finally found something he cannot control.”
Neither man realised just how true those words would prove to be.

Aerion glanced over his shoulder once.
Then, with the unmistakable grin of a man about to do something he absolutely shouldn’t he caught her hand and ran.
She barely had time to gather the skirts of her wedding gown before he was pulling her down the moonlit path, laughter escaping him as she struggled to keep pace.
The sound rang through the warm evening air, neither noticed when a pair of curious guards exchanged bewildered glances behind them.
The prince and his new bride disappeared into the darkness like mischievous children escaping lessons.
Aerion never once let go of her hand.
Whenever she stumbled, he steadied her before she could fall, only to tug her onward again with renewed determination.
Her veil caught upon a low branch, he stopped just long enough to free it, his fingers surprisingly gentle as they untangled the lace and for a fleeting second, they simply looked at one another.
Breathless.
Smiling.
Then he was pulling her onward again.
The castle lights vanished behind the trees.
The familiar scent of pine surrounded them.
Branches arched overhead, shutting out almost every star.
She looked around curiously, trying to guess where he was leading her.
Aerion only glanced back with that infuriatingly smug smile before urging her forward again.
A warm glow appeared between the trees.
One lantern.
Then another and another.
Soft golden lights hung from low branches, swaying gently in the evening breeze like fallen stars caught amongst the leaves.
The clearing beyond had been transformed.
A canvas pavilion stood beneath the great oak where they had first met.
Its entrance had been tied open with crimson ribbons inside, thick furs and embroidered blankets covered the ground.
A small fire crackled nearby, its warmth dancing across polished goblets, fresh fruit, bread, honey, roasted pheasant and sweetcakes stolen or more likely demanded from the royal kitchens.
Wildflowers she’d admired in Summerhall’s gardens rested in clay vases beside the entrance, even the cushions had been arranged with impossible care.
She slowed to a stop, her smile faded into quiet astonishment.
Aerion released her hand at last.
Not to step away but to watch.
He wanted to see her face.
She turned slowly, taking in every lantern, every flower, every careful detail hidden deep within the forest.
When she looked back at him, he was already watching her.
Not the tent.
Not the lights.
Her.
There was no arrogance in his expression now.
No mocking grin.
Only a young prince standing awkwardly in the middle of a forest, almost uncertain whether his absurdly extravagant surprise had been enough.
She stepped towards him.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Until barely a breath remained between them her fingers found the front of his black velvet doublet, smoothing an imaginary crease near his collar.
He watched every movement.
She looked up.
Their eyes met, his hand rose almost instinctively to brush a loose curl away from her face before resting lightly against her cheek.
She leaned into the touch without thinking.
The corner of his mouth lifted.
A smile so small most people would have missed it.
She answered it with one of her own.
Around them, the lanterns swayed gently beneath the branches.
Beyond the trees, the music from Summerhall had become little more than a distant memory and for the first time all day… The prince and his bride belonged to no one else. Only to the quiet forest and to the place where everything had begun.
The lanterns swayed gently overhead.
Beyond the clearing, the sounds of Summerhall had disappeared entirely.
Only the crackle of the fire remained.
She reached up first, smoothing the collar of his wedding doublet where it had twisted from their run through the woods, his eyes followed her hands.
Then lifted to her face, his own hand found her waist.
Tentatively.
As though giving her every chance to step away.
She didn’t. Instead, she rose onto her toes.
Their lips met softly, the kiss was unhurried, there was no urgency in it.
No audience to impress.
No septon waiting for vows.
Just two figures beneath a canopy of lanterns, the world beyond the trees forgotten for a little while.
When they parted, they remained close enough that their foreheads brushed.
She studied him quietly.
His breathing was uneven.
It made her smile.
“I asked you once,” she said softly.
He opened his eyes.
“You told me marriage was duty.”
He remembered.
“‘Kindness is optional.’”
A shadow of embarrassment crossed his face. “I said that.”
“You did.” She searched his expression.
“And now?” The question lingered between them. “How do you feel about me now?”
Aerion looked away for the first time that evening.
Towards the fire.
Towards the lanterns.
Anywhere but her.
“I’ve been trying to decide.” Aerion smiled with her, but only briefly.
The smile faded into something more serious. “I spent years believing affection made men weak.” His hand tightened gently around hers.
“I mocked songs.”
“I mocked lovers.”
“I mocked my brothers whenever they looked at women the way they ought to.” He drew a slow breath. “And now? I find myself searching every room for you.” He looked directly into her eyes.
“If you’re gone too long?” His jaw tightened. “I become angry.”
She listened in silence.
“If someone else makes you laugh…” A crooked smile appeared. “I dislike them immediately.”
Another quiet moment passed, then he lifted a hand, resting it gently against her cheek. “I don’t know when it happened.” His thumb brushed her skin.
“I only know…” He swallowed. “that somewhere between the forest, the gardens and watching you walk towards me today…”He gave the smallest shake of his head. “I stopped pretending this was duty.”
Her heartbeat quickened. “So…” she whispered. “You have allowed yourself to fall in love with me?”
Aerion was silent for a long moment.
Then the arrogant prince returned, if only for a heartbeat. “I wasn’t given much choice.”
She laughed softly. “You sound inconvenienced.”
“I am.”
“You make it sound dreadful.”
“It is.” His eyes sparkled with the first hint of mischief she’d seen all evening.
“I’ve become insufferably attached to my own wife.”
“And whose fault is that?”
He leaned forward until his forehead rested against hers once more. “Entirely yours.”
She smiled. “I don’t think that’s fair.”
“Love rarely is.” Before she could answer, he kissed her again.
Above them, the lanterns glowed warmly beneath the ancient trees, while the forest that had once witnessed the beginning of a lie now held, at least for this one quiet night, the beginning of something that felt dangerously close to the truth. The kiss deepened, becoming intense, teeth clashing and tongue fighting for dominance over one and another and he was winning.
Breaking free, she turned her back towards him while glancing over her shoulder. “Remove my dress.” It’s barely an audible whisper, Aerions heartbeat raced. The inability to think, it was there wedding night and things had to be expected but he is lying to her, he has been since the start. “Are you sure.” His hand reached out, thumb brushing the side of neck to her bare shoulder.
Her eyes looked towards him as if she was pleading, full of want for him. “Yes, my prince.” He had wondered if she would have been a virgin or not, it wasn’t a question he had thought to ask her. His hands reached for the lace on her back, making slow work at removing every single piece until the sides lay flat and she had to hold it up at the breasts.
She turned to him, allowing it to slip from her body. He kept his head forward, only eyes quickly darting down her body then back up, his mouth felt suddenly dry and neck a little warmer. She closed the space, a small kiss planted the corner of his mouth as she took his left hand and placed it on her waist. “You can touch me.” She whispered into his ear giving him permission. She took his right hand and guided it to her breast, his lips parted as he looked down, fingers gently kneading at the skin. He wanted her, gods he could have taken her there and then but his guilt stopped him.
“I must confess..” he gulped, fighting back the bile that creeped his throat. She placed a finger to his lips and another sneaking between their bodies and down the front of his pants. She took him firmly, a gasp left his mouth as he closed his eyes and rested his forehead on hers once more. “Sweet thing, you can tell me on the morrow.” She stroked him carefully as if she knew how, he is a man and a man liked to be pleased. He nodded almost frantically, it could wait he told him wrapping his free arm around her shoulders and embracing her in a tight kiss.
His left hand pulled from her breast and down her waist, to the back of her thigh and down to the back of her knee where he hitched it upwards over his hip. He practically dragged her until her back was flushed with the old oak and him at her front, rocking his hips into her. She gasped when his mouth removed from hers and found her neck, teeth nipping at her collarbone. She found herself arching and bending to his will, the feeling of the bark scratching her back sure to be leaving marks worse than finger nails. She hurried, making quick work of the lace that held his pants up and pushed them down.
Reaching down, she grabbed hold of his member once more and lined it up perfectly with her entrance. “I want you.” He thought for a moment, while in her hand. Did he really want to take her maidenhood against a tree? “Aerion, I need you.” She whispered, breaking him from his own mind. He rocked his hips forward while still in her hand allowing the tip to entry, a gasp escaping both their lips that soon got swallowed by a heated kiss, unmoving just pressed together. “Deeper.” She whined, he thought she sounded beautiful whining and taking his cock.
Further he pushed and was giving the confirmation that he seemed to be looking for before, she wasn’t a virgin. As must as he was disappointed about not being his brides first, he was also a liar and some what glad he wasn’t stealing a special moment from her. “You take me so well princess.” His eyes closed momentarily, the feeling around him blissful, he’s die a happy man if no one stole this from him. She inclined her other leg for him take it, raising it on his hip to wrap around his waist meeting the other, the free space allowing him to do even deeper.
Aerion held her for a moment, he wanted to look at her. She smiled at him and something inside him settled. It wasn’t the dizzy rush he’d expected love to be, it felt quieter, softer, it felt like coming home. She looked back at him with such quiet trust that his chest ached, he’d never felt more undeserving of anything in his life. “Are you okay?” She took his chin, forcing his glaze but he fought against it and continued to look away. “Aerion.” She whispered his name, it sounded like a silent prayer.
He looked at her again, keeping her pinned to the tree while he rocked his hips back and forth against her, sliding out and back in again with such ease as if she was made for him and only him. “I’ve falling so madly.” He admitted, holding her hip and tracing small circles. She smiled back at him, flicking her nose against his for attention. “Take me, kiss me.” He kissed her harder than before, pulling her away from the tree still inside her, wrapped around his waist. He pulled her to the nearby tent with the pillows and furs he had brought and laid her down on her back, he sat him upright to look at her, marvelling at her body. Something so beautiful only the gods could have blessed him with it.
He began to moved again, each thrust harder than the next. His mouth falling open when every thrust made her breasts bounce. She crawled at his forearms, then to his shoulders. Eyes begging, lips parted and cheeks flushed. He took her hand and guided it down her body, to the most sensitive part of a woman’s body. “Rub yourself, while I fuck you.” He commanded, she rubbed her fingers up and down slowly until finding the rhythm that worked for her.
Belong long, he had her screaming his name in bliss, crawling at his back and biting his shoulders. His hips moving fast, pounding into her as if he might start a fire that brings dragons back to the world. Her face sweating, hair sticky from the heat, he asked if she was close to finishing around him. All she could muster was a faint sound of a yes, “do it, finish on your prince and I’ll give you my seed.” Her neck arched back, nails gripped on his hips as she began to clench around him, he soon followed, hips becoming sloppy as he emptied deep into her, normally he’d pull out. Have moon tea on stand by but he did neither, he had neither. He filled her up, his mouth close to hers.
Surely, he thought for a moment..
He could tell her the truth, after an heir was born.
Amnesia ~ Pt2
Aerion Targaryen x f!reader (he’s given her a name.)
Warnings: He’s a bastard.
Maekar and Baelor are real ones. ❤️
The days passed more quickly than she expected. Slowly, the ache in her shoulder faded. The bruises yellowed and the headaches became fewer.
Yet her memories remained stubbornly out of reach, So Aerion gave her something else instead.
A name.
“Princess Alyssa of Auradon,” he’d declared with complete confidence, as though he’d spoken it a thousand times before.
She had accepted it because… what else was there to hold onto?
He became her guide through Summerhall, the castle was unlike anything she could have imagined.
Warm stone walls glowed amber beneath the afternoon sun.
Courtyards echoed with the clash of steel as squires trained, the library smelled of old leather and dust but it was the gardens that stole her heart.
“I’ve never seen roses like these,” she whispered. Aerion watched as she wandered ahead, fingertips drifting lightly across crimson petals. “You probably have.”
She glanced back. “I have?” She smiled.
“Oh, I suppose I have.”
She no longer questioned him as often and it disturbed him more than he cared to admit.
Handmaidens fussed endlessly over her.
Measurements were taken.
Silks arrived from King’s Landing.
Velvets from Oldtown.
Fine Myrish lace.
Pearls.
Gold thread.
She stood patiently while seamstresses argued over necklines and sleeves. “A princess must look every inch a princess.” One of them mentioned while another picked the dirty from beneath her fingernails.
By the week’s end, she almost did look every bit of a princess.
-•-
Summerhall had not hosted such a feast in years, hundreds of candles bathed the great hall in warm gold.
Music drifted between towering pillars.
Nobles from every corner of the Stormlands and Crownlands filled the room. The whispers came when she entered the room, making her debut to the lords and lady’s of Westeros. Maekar cleared his throat loud enough for his son to hear as his eyes darted toward his fake princess.
Aerion looked where everyone else was looking, towards the common girl he had believing was a princess. Everytime he remembered he had to bury a smile, but this time is different.. something unfamiliar twisted in his chest as other men turned to watch her. It wasn’t jealousy, but he disliked how easily she commanded a room he’d assumed belonged to him.
He had never bothered to see her before. Now, as she crossed the hall in silk and candlelight, he found himself wondering if he could go through with what he thought was a good idea at the night, he met he halfway across the hall, taking her arm in his easily. Patting it with a gentle squeeze. He turned his head subtly to listen to the nearby whispering.
“That’s her.”
“The princess.”
“She’s beautiful.”
“I expected someone… Foreign.”
Instead, she looked almost familiar as if she belonged in this room. “You seem nervous,” he observed, not bothering to look her way.
“I feel as though everyone is staring.”
“They are.”
“That doesn’t help.” She elbowed him lightly and he smirked. “There.” He nodded towards the high table.
“My father.” Prince Maekar inclined his head, it wasn’t warmth but it wasn’t disapproval either.
Beside him sat a broad shouldered man already halfway through another goblet of wine, Blonde hair escaped its ribbon. His cheeks were permanently flushed.
Prince Daeron.
Aerion leaned closer. “My eldest brother.”
Daeron raised his goblet towards them.
“Congratulations!” he called loudly enough for half the hall to hear. “I think!”
Maekar sighed into his wine.
“He started drinking before sunset.” Aerion confessed with annoyance. “He usually does.”
“And the other gentleman?” She nodded towards the man seated beside Maekar.
He is older, perhaps nearing fifty. Dark hair, kept short despite the silver beginning to claim it and a neatly trimmed beard, touched with grey.
One eye a rich brown.
The other a striking blue.
His posture was effortless, confident without arrogance while he fiddled with his wedding ring on his hand. There was kindness in his face that seemed strangely rare amongst princes.
“My uncle,” Aerion replied. “Prince Baelor, the Hand of the King.”
“He looks…” She searched for the word. “Wise.”
Aerion snorted. “He’ll enjoy hearing that.”
The feast was alive with laughter.
Musicians filled the hall with lively tunes.
Couples spun across the polished floor.
She remained near one of the marble pillars, quietly watching.
“I wondered whether you danced.” The voice was gentle.
She turned, prince Baelor stood before her, offering an elegant bow. “Your Highness.”
She returned a small curtsy. “I fear I don’t remember whether I do.”
“Then perhaps,” he said with a warm smile, “we shall discover together.” He extended his hand. Unlike Aerion’s, there was no flourish, no performance or devious smile.
Simply an invitation.
She accepted. “I’d be honoured.”
The music softened.
Baelor guided her effortlessly onto the dance floor. “You learn quickly.” She held his right hand in her left, another hand on his shoulder.
“I think…” She frowned faintly. “My feet seem to remember more than my mind.”
“They often do.” His mismatched eyes watched her kindly. “The body keeps its own memories.”
She smiled. “I hope they’re kinder than the ones in my head.”
“So do I.” They danced in comfortable silence for a while, baelor was graceful and steady. Each twirl made the evening feel more magical than the next.
The sort of man who made conversation feel effortless. “I must confess something.”
She looked up. “What?”
“I’ve travelled much of the known world.”
“Oh?”
“Braavos.”
She nodded.
“Pentos.”
Another nod.
“Lys.”
“That sounds beautiful.”
“It is.” He smiled. “And yet…” His eyes studied her thoughtfully. “You don’t remind me of any of them.”
She blinked. “I don’t?”
“No.” He tilted his head slightly. “If anything…” His smile remained warm, though there was curiosity behind it now. “you look remarkably like you belong here.”
She laughed quietly. “Perhaps Auradon resembles Westeros.”
“Perhaps.” She agreed, he was silent for another turn around the floor. “You have the accent of the Reach.”
Her heart skipped. “I do?” She looked down. “I wouldn’t know.”
“No.” He spoke gently. “You wouldn’t.”
She hesitated. “Does that mean…” She lowered her voice. “you don’t believe I’m from Auradon?”
Baelor’s expression remained unreadable. “I believe,” he said carefully, “that you’ve endured a terrible injury.”
She waited for him to continue. “And I believe Prince Aerion has told you many things.”
There was no accusation.
Only quiet observation.
She smiled uncertainly. “He’s been very kind.”
Baelor looked across the hall.
Aerion stood speaking with several young lords, though every few moments his violet eyes drifted back towards them.
Watching.
Always watching.
Always listening to any possible poison dripped into her ear.
“I imagine,” Baelor murmured, “my nephew is trying.”
She followed his gaze. “He makes me laugh.”
“Does he?”
“Often.”
Baelor chuckled. “That, at least, is genuine.”
The song came to an end.
He bowed deeply. “Thank you, Princess Alyssa.”
She curtsied. “And thank you, my prince.”
Before he stepped away, Baelor paused.
“There is one piece of advice I would offer.” She listened carefully. “If memories return…” His brown and blue eyes met hers. “do not fear them.”
A flicker of uncertainty crossed her face.“What if they change everything?”
Baelor’s smile was gentle. “Then they were always going to.”
Across the hall…
Aerion had watched every step of the dance.
Every smile.
Every word he couldn’t hear.
As Baelor finally released her hand, their eyes met across the crowded room.
His uncle’s expression was calm.
Knowing.
It carried no accusation.
No threat.
Only a look that seemed to say… How much longer do you think this lie can last? Baelor’s words lingered in Aerion’s mind far longer than he cared to admit.
He disliked being questioned.
He disliked being watched.
He particularly disliked that his uncle had managed both without uttering a single accusation. By the time the musicians began another lively tune, his temper had already soured.
He crossed the hall with the confidence only a Targaryen prince could possess.
Conversations quieted as he passed.
Lords bowed.
Ladies lowered their eyes.
No one stopped him.
His betrothed turned as he approached, smiling when she saw him. “There you are.”
“I’ve been here all evening,” he replied coolly.
“Oh.” The smile faltered. “I only meant..”
“I know what you meant.” He glanced towards Baelor, who had resumed speaking with Maekar. “My uncle seems to have enjoyed monopolising my future wife.”
“He was only dancing.”
“I saw.”
“He was very kind.”
Aerion’s jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. “How fortunate for him.”
She searched his face. “Have I done something wrong?”
He laughed a short, humourless sound.“You ask that question often.”
“Because I genuinely don’t know.” She stood from her chair, leaning the Lord she was having a conversation with to look down at his meal.
“And that’s becoming rather tiresome.”
The words struck harder than he intended.
She looked down at the polished floor.
“I’m sorry.”
“You apologise too much.” He sneered. She looked back up, confusion written plainly across her face. “why are you angry?”
“And now you’re telling me how I am?”
His voice remained measured, but there was steel beneath every syllable.
Around them, nearby conversations began to fade.
People noticed.
People always noticed when Prince Aerion’s mood darkened.
She instinctively lowered her voice. “I wasn’t criticising you.”
“No?”
“No.”
“You’ve forgotten your own name, yet somehow you’ve retained the confidence to correct a prince.” She took a careful breath, feeling embarrassed from the spectacle that had been caused. “I only wanted to understand.”
Aerion stepped closer, near enough that only she could hear his next words. “You needn’t understand.” She blinked. “You need only listen.”
Silence.
Her fingers tightened around the folds of her gown.
Across the hall, Daeron glanced up from his wine. “Hm.” Maekar followed his eldest son’s gaze and his expression hardened.
Aerion noticed neither. “You’ve become rather comfortable these last few days.”
She frowned. “You told me I could.”
“I did, you speak with my family.”
She stared at him in disbelief. “You were speaking with other lords.”
“So you thought you’d find another prince?”
Colour drained from her face. “What?”
“I leave your side for half an hour and suddenly you’re smiling at Baelor.”
“I was only being polite.”
“I dislike polite.” His voice remained calm.
That somehow made it worse. “I prefer loyalty.”
“I haven’t been disloyal.”
“How would you know?” She recoiled slightly at his words, as if mocking. “I don’t understand.” She fought the urge to cry, her face warm from embarrassment.
He leaned in another fraction. “Because you’ve forgotten everything.”
She swallowed. “I’ve tried.”
“I know.” His smile was beautiful but cold. “But trying and succeeding are very different things.”
For a long moment, neither of them spoke.
The music continued around them as though nothing were wrong.
Finally she whispered, “You’re hurting me.”
Aerion looked down without realising it, his hand had closed firmly around her wrist.
Enough to stop her pulling away.
Enough to make his point.
His eyes lingered on the reddening skin for a heartbeat before he released her.
“There.” He straightened her sleeve with almost exaggerated care, hiding the mark from view. “Better.”
She rubbed her wrist quietly. “I wasn’t trying to upset you.” Her voice caught.
“why speak to me like this?”
Aerion regarded her with detached amusement. “Because you’re to be my wife.”
“I thought that meant you liked me.” Her eyes had begun to fill, threatening to escape.
A faint laugh escaped him. “Who filled your head with that idea?”
She looked genuinely startled, his gaze swept briefly over the watching nobles before returning to her. “Marriage is duty.”
She held his eyes. “And kindness?”
“Optional.” Those words carried just loudly enough that a few nearby ladies exchanged uneasy glances.
Maekar set his goblet down with deliberate care, baelor watched in silence. Neither intervened.
Aerion offered his arm as though nothing unpleasant had passed between them. “We’re being watched.”
She hesitated but took his arm in gentle hands.
“Smile.” He spoke through gritted teeth.
She couldn’t, his expression didn’t change. “I said…” His voice softened into something almost pleasant. “smile.”
Slowly, uncertainly, she did. It wasn’t convincing, but it was enough to satisfy appearances.
He nodded once. “Much better.”
To every lord and lady in the hall, they looked every inch the handsome young couple.
Only those closest could see the stiffness in her shoulders or the way Prince Baelor’s mismatched eyes never left Aerion for the remainder of the evening.. for the first time since the lie had begun, Baelor wondered whether the greatest danger to the young woman was not the return of her memories but the prince she’d been persuaded to trust.
-•-
The feast lingered long into the night.
Wine flowed.
Minstrels played.
Laughter echoed beneath the high beams of Summerhall, yet beneath the warmth of candlelight, a chill had settled around the royal table.
Prince Maekar had seen the bruising fingers around the girl’s wrist before Aerion had hidden them beneath her sleeve.
He said nothing.
Not there.
Not with half the realm watching.
Baelor had seen it too, his mismatched eyes narrowed, but he merely reached for his goblet.
He knew his nephew.
To challenge Aerion publicly was to hand him an audience and Aerion loved audiences.
-•-
The moment the feast ended, a page appeared beside Aerion. “Prince Maekar requests your presence.”
Aerion sighed dramatically. “Can’t this wait morning?” He was enjoying his wine too much.
“No, my prince.” My guard didn’t offer him a look, kept his head straight and eyes forward, the guards had also felt disgust towards the prince and his behaviour tonight.
-•-
Maekar’s solar was lit by a single fire.
His father stood with his back to the room, staring out across the moonlit courtyards. “You embarrassed me.”
Aerion closed the door behind him. “That narrows it down very little.”
“You laid hands on her.” He didn’t look at son.
“I held her wrist.”
“You frightened her.”
“I corrected her.”
Maekar turned slowly. “You humiliated her.”
Aerion shrugged. “She’ll survive.”
Maekar crossed the room in three strides, for a heartbeat it looked as though he might strike his son.
Instead he jabbed a finger into Aerion’s chest. “You asked me to indulge this absurd lie and you promised me you would treat that girl with respect.”
“I haven’t taken her maidenhood out of wedlock, I could. That’s respect enough.” He scoffed at his father, refusing to back down.
Maekar stared at him in disbelief. “You call that respect?”
Aerion looked genuinely puzzled. “I didn’t shout.”
“You threatened her.”
“I reminded her of her place.”
“She has no place!” The words echoed around the chamber. “She is not a princess.” Rarely had Maekar raised his voice but this was a correct time.
“I know that.”
“She is not your betrothed.”
“I know that too.”
“Then why in the Seven Hells are you behaving as though she belongs to you?”
Aerion’s expression cooled. “Because everyone believes she does.”
The silence that followed was deafening.
Maekar looked at his son as though seeing a stranger. “So that’s it.”
Aerion folded his arms. “What is?”
“You’ve started believing your own lie.”
“I haven’t.”
“You speak to her like a possession.”
Aerion laughed quietly. “I speak to everyone like that.”
“I know, yet somehow tonight was different.”
“It wasn’t.”
“It was.” Maekar stepped closer. “When Baelor danced with her…” Aerion’s jaw flexed. “You were jealous.”
Aerion’s violet eyes hardened. “I disliked that he questioned my story.”
“No.” Maekar shook his head. “You disliked that she smiled at someone else.”
Aerion said nothing.
“There it is.” His father gave a weary smile. “You don’t even realise you’ve done it, You’ve convinced yourself that because the girl remembers nothing she belongs wherever you decide to put her.”
Aerion’s voice dropped dangerously low.
“She is under my protection.”
Maekar’s own temper finally broke.“Protection?” He laughed bitterly.“Protection does not leave marks around a frightened girl’s wrist.”
The room fell silent once more.
Aerion looked away first.
Only for a moment.
Only long enough that Maekar noticed.
“You struck her with your horse, you stole her name, you stole her past.”
Aerion’s gaze snapped back. “I gave her another.”
“You gave her yours.”
Neither spoke.
The fire crackled between them.
Finally Maekar sighed. “I’ve watched you since you were a boy.” He poured himself wine but didn’t drink it. “You’ve always broken things simply to see if they could be mended.”
Aerion smiled faintly. “I usually succeed.”
“You don’t mend people, you leave scars where everyone else has skin.” Maekar quickly finished his wine, pointing at the door. “Fuck off.”
For the first time that evening, Aerion had no clever reply.
-•-
Elsewhere in the castle, she stood alone upon a balcony overlooking the sleeping gardens. Rubbing at her wrist, suddenly feeling like a prisoner.
Moonlight silvered the roses she’d come to love, a cool breeze stirred her hair.
“I thought I’d find you here.” She turned, Prince Baelor stepped onto the balcony, carrying two cups of warm hippocras. “I hope you don’t mind.”
He offered her one.
She accepted it gratefully. “Thank you.”
They stood together in comfortable silence.
After a while, Baelor spoke. “My nephew can be…” He searched for the right word.
“difficult.” She smiled sadly. “I noticed.”
“He wasn’t always.”
She looked at him. “No?”
Baelor chuckled. “Oh, he was always arrogant.”
She laughed quietly.
“But once…” His gaze drifted over the gardens. “he laughed more.”
“What happened?”
“Life.”
She looked into her cup. “I think I upset him.”
Baelor regarded her gently. “My dear…”
His voice was kind enough to remind her of a father she couldn’t remember. “There are people in this world who become angry because they’ve been wronged.”
She nodded.
“And then there are people who become angry because they fear losing control.”
She frowned. “I don’t understand.”
“You will.” He rested his forearms upon the stone balustrade. “One day.”
She hesitated. “May I ask you something?”
“Anything.”
“If…” She swallowed. “If my memories return and I am not who everyone says I am..” Baelor looked at her. “What then?”
The older prince smiled softly. “Then,” he said, “I should like to meet the woman you truly are.”
For reasons she couldn’t explain, those words brought tears to her eyes because for the first time since waking in Summerhall someone had spoken as though the person she’d been still mattered.

The scream of Aerion’s stallion shattered the quiet of the royal forest, his horse lurched sideways, front hooves clawing at the air as Aerion fought to keep him under control.
“Steady,” he hissed, hauling sharply on the reins, eyes scanning the area for what might have disturbed his horse so greatly, after a minute or so, the reason for the horse’s panic stepped from the trees with all the concern of someone interrupting a stroll rather than nearly sending a prince into the dirt.
A young woman, a long faded brown cloak covered her face. Aerion nearly sneered about a commoner disturbing his horse, it was an inconvenience.
A willow basket rested against her hip, overflowing with herbs, mushrooms and dark summer berries. Loose strands of chestnut hair framed a face that belonged in a painter’s gallery rather than wandering alone through the woods.
Aerion’s irritation lasted exactly three heartbeats, he would have happily striked her down for her own stupidity of wondering where she never belonged.
Then she looked up, her eyes were bright. A shade of moss green with an unremarkable glow of yellow within them, they are defiant as if they held fire.
Beautiful.
He recovered himself quickly, shaking himself back into composure. “You’ve excellent timing,” he said dryly. “Were you hoping to see me thrown from my horse?”
“I wasn’t aware I needed permission to walk.” She held the arch of her wicker basket tightly as if he was the thief.
“You do.” He leaned forward on his horse, looking down at the silly woman.
She arched a brow. “I do?”
“This is the royal forest.”
She glanced around as though seeing the trees for the first time. “They look remarkably similar to every other tree I’ve ever seen.”
His mouth twitched before he caught himself. “The herbs.” He looked how at her basket, then to her chest. A mild thought about taking her in the bushes as punishment flooded his mind but he simply couldn’t be bothered with the trouble of treating the scratch marks.
Her gaze followed his. “What about them?”
“You’ve stolen them.”
She blinked. “Stolen?”
“The earth they grow from belongs to House Targaryen.”
She stared at him for a long moment before asking, perfectly seriously, “So your family owns the dirt?”
“The kingdom.” He sat proudly, a smug grin on his face that soon faltered when she spoke again. “So, the dirt?”
He was beginning to grow a headache from this interaction and decided it wasn’t worth his time. “The dirt comes with the kingdom.” He sneers with a crinkled eye.
A laugh escaped her before she could stop it, she can see the vein bulging on his forehead. “I picked rosemary.” She showed him the contents of her basket with a smile of a cat who had just caught a wild bird.
“You stole rosemary, it was growing on my land.” He sounded like a child, petulant and spoiled. She had wondered if he had ever picked an herb before, of course not. He’s a prince, he wouldn’t bestow the troubles on himself.
She folded her arms. “I don’t believe dragons planted rosemary.”
Aerion narrowed his eyes. “You’ve a remarkable talent for speaking to people far above your station.”
“And you’ve a remarkable talent for sounding spoiled.” For perhaps the first time in years, someone had managed to insult Prince Aerion Targaryen without trembling. He found that unexpectedly entertaining.
Before he could open his mouth, his horse snorted and ears twisted as if detecting something nearby.
A stag burst through the undergrowth.
The stallion screamed, everything happened at once, the horse twisted violently. Aerion fought for the reins, the woman instinctively stepped forward instead of back as if to offer help.
“No!” Came from his lips. His horse lashed out, the iron hoof caught her squarely in the shoulder before throwing her to the ground. Her head struck a moss covered stone with a sickening crack.
Aerion was already on his knees beside her. “Gods.” The sharp wit had vanished from her face as blood trickled slowly through her hair. “Open your eyes.” He thought of how his father would be furious with him, that he killed a common woman.
He touched trembling fingers to her neck, something he saw maesters do many times before. His eyes faced forward as if he was concentrating, he let out a breath when he found it, a pulse.
Thank the Seven. He thought.
Without another word he scooped her into his arms and mounted his horse once more. “Startle again and you’ll be made into a belt.” He warned the horse, pulling at the reins looking into its black soulless eye. “and ride as though Father never hears about this.”

The maesters worked through the afternoon.
Bruised ribs, broken collarbone and a blow to the head. Many had considered she had faced his temper and it was a deliberate attack, then why bring her here if true? By sunrise, one of the older maesters finally emerged. “She has awakened.”
Aerion entered without hesitation. She looked pale beneath the linen blankets, one shoulder wrapped tightly in bandages, the moment she saw him, relief crossed her face. “Oh…” Her voice was barely above a whisper. “I know you.”
Aerion frowned. “You do?” He carefully stroked the fur on the bed, she hesitated failing to speak her words.
“No.” Her smile disappeared. “I thought I did.” She pressed both hands against her temples, winching at the pain. “I can’t remember.” Panic filled her eyes as she looked towards her feet, trying to remember her own mind that is now lost. “I can’t remember anything.”
The maester sighed softly. “As we feared.” He examined her briefly, moving her head roughly while looking at her blown pupils.“The injury seems to have stolen her memory, turned her brain soft.” The old man offered the woman a reassuring smile before taking his leave. “I’ll fetch another book, see what we can brew but when a mind is soften, it becomes difficult to go form it back into shape.” Once the chamber door closed, he looked to Aerion like a frightened child.
“Who am I?” She asked, all fabrics of her personality stripped and torn. She groaned at the pain in her shoulder, what had happened to have landed her in chambers that aren’t her own, or are they? She couldn’t remember.. it didn’t feel like home, she felt like had landed herself in an unforgiving environment.
He should have answered honestly, he truly meant to but the cruelty inside bubbled to the surface at what lies he could tell her, she’d believe him, of course she would so he played a game, he played the game of being a devoted prince. “You are Princess.” The lie slipped from his mouth as effortlessly as breathing.
She blinked. “Princess?” She looked at her hands, dirt under hands and dried blood on her fingers. Her hands didn’t look like they belonged to a princess, they looked worn from hard work.
She looked around the unfamiliar chamber. “Where is my home?”
Aerion’s mind raced, he couldn’t tell her a real place. Wars have started for less, imagine rumours got out and carried in the wind that a princess, was now with a Targaryen. “Across the Narrow Sea.”
“Where?” He wanted to sigh, but he knew a woman with no memory would be filled with a thousand questions.
“The Kingdom of Valedor.” He had never heard of such a place.. thankfully, neither apparently, had she.
“Oh.” She accepted it with remarkable ease. “Are we’re acquainted?” He hated that word, who hasn’t heard of Aerion Brightflame Targaryen? The mockery.
Aerion clasped his hands behind his back, standing as a dashing prince.“We’re more than acquainted.” Her brows lifted. “We’re to be married, our wedding was to be announced before your unfortunate accident.”
She looked at him in complete astonishment. “You wished to marry me?”
“I did.” He nodded, struggling to keep a straight face. “You were quite insistent. He sighed dramatically. “I attempted to refuse, several times.”
“What happened?” She gasped.
“You cried.” He nodded.
“I cried?” She questioned, never imagining herself crying over a man.
“Profusely, you even threatened to throw yourself into the sea if I didn’t agree.” His vanity growing wider by the second as he painted himself as an adored man who was just irresistible.
She looked horrified and then covered her face. “Oh, gods. I’m so sorry my prince.” He waved dismissively. “It was deeply embarrassing but it won me quite a lot of admiration.”
She removed her hands slowly from her face, “Admiration?” She tilted her head finding herself constantly questioning him but having to believe his answers.
“Imagine it.” He spread his hands theatrically. “Prince Aerion, desired by princesses beyond the Narrow Sea.”
She smiled shyly. “That sounds… romantic.”
“It was.” He was becoming alarmingly good at this, he had always been good at lying but he was becoming good at the playing the role of a loyal prince.
She looked down at the blanket covering her lap, twisting the fabric between nervous fingers. “I should send a raven.”
Aerion’s confidence evaporated. “A raven? To whom?”
“To my parents.” She looked up. “They’ll be worried sick.”
His heart lurched.
Think.
Quickly.
“I’m afraid…” he began, adopting the solemn tone of someone delivering terrible news, “Valedor lies far beyond where ravens can fly.”
She frowned. “They can’t?”
“The sea winds.” He nodded with complete confidence. “Very dangerous for fragile birds.”
“Oh…” She accepted the explanation after only a moment. “I didn’t know that.” She smiled apologetically. “I seem to know very little.”
“Entirely understandable.”
She looked at him again, curiosity replacing fear before she could ask another question, he straightened abruptly. “You should rest.”
“But..” she tried to speak but was hushed by a finger placed on her lips. “The maesters insisted, they’re extremely passionate about sleeping.”
She laughed softly. “I suppose I shouldn’t argue with a maester.”
“A wise decision.” He turned toward the door.
“My prince?”
He glanced back, putting on a fake smile.
“If my memories never return? You’ll still marry me?” There was fear in her eyes again, aerion hesitated.
He had expected anger.
Suspicion.
Perhaps even outrage.
Not trust.
Not hope.
He offered the smallest nod. “I gave you my word.”
Her shoulders visibly relaxed. “Thank you.”
Aerion stepped into the corridor and quietly shut the door behind him, then leaned heavily against the stone wall.
“Seven hells.” He exhaled into the quiet.
He had grown tired of talking, he had intended to tell one harmless lie Instead, in less than ten minutes, he had invented a princess, a kingdom, a betrothal, a royal family who couldn’t be contacted because apparently ravens feared imaginary sea winds and somehow she believed every word.
The truly terrifying part? He wasn’t entirely certain how he was going to explain any of it if her memory returned.

The news reached Prince Maekar before the sun had climbed low, it was delivered by a maester whose expression suggested he’d rather have announced a plague.
By the time Aerion entered his father’s solar, Maekar was already standing.
That, in itself, was a warning.
Maekar held a letter loosely in one hand, he looked from the parchment then to his son. “You did what?” The words cracked through the chamber like thunder.
Aerion, entirely unbothered, wandered to the wine table and poured himself a cup. “I’ve done many things, Father. You’ll have to be more specific.”
Maekar slammed both hands onto the table. “You told a common girl she is a princess!”
Aerion sipped his wine. “Technically.” Scowling, it tasted like piss.
“There is no technically!” His voice boomed, “You’ve invented a kingdom!”
“A small one.” Aerion put the cup down, holding his father’s glaze.
“You’ve invented a royal house!” He pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. “You’ve promised to marry her!”
“I may have become slightly carried away.” He seemed relaxed, unbothered by the problem presented at this time. “Slightly?” Maekar’s face had begun to redden. “My son… my idiot boy! Wars have started for less.”
Aerion smiled pleasantly as his father began pacing. “You strike the poor girl with your horse” He’s still pacing.
“You bring her here and you discover she cannot remember her own name.”
Aerion smiled and interrupted, “Very unfortunate.” Maekar stopped and looked at his son in frustration. Wonder what he did wrong in life to end up with a child like him? He began walking his path again. “And instead of telling the truth…” Aerion raised an innocent eyebrow. “You fabricate an entire bloody kingdom!”
Maekar pinched the bridge of his nose again, soon he could imagine it would fall from his face one day. “There are moments, Aerion…” He exhaled slowly.“When I wonder whether the gods made you handsome simply to distract people from how spectacularly foolish you can be.”
“I’ve often wondered the same.” He smirked. Maekar stared. “I wasn’t complimenting you boy.” “I chose to hear it as one.”
A long silence followed then Maekar sighed the sigh of a man who had survived battlefields only to discover fatherhood was the greater trial.
“Enough.” His voice became sharp again.
“This ends now.” He looked towards the doors. “Guard.” One of the Kingsguard stepped inside immediately. “Your Grace.”
“Fetch the girl.”
Aerion’s smile finally faded. “For what purpose?”
Maekar reached into a drawer of the table and withdrew a heavy leather pouch and it landed upon the table with the unmistakable clink of gold. “A hundred dragons.”
Aerion whistled softly. “Generous.”
“She’ll receive more wealth than she’s likely to see in ten lifetimes.” Maekar tightened the drawstring. “She will be escorted safely from Summerhall and she shall return to whatever village she wandered here from.”
Aerion set down his cup. “I wouldn’t.”
Maekar gave a humourless smile. “I wasn’t asking.”
Aerion folded his arms. “And what happens when she wakes tomorrow believing every prince of House Targaryen to be a liar?”
“I would rather she think us liars than continue living one.”
“Would you?”
“Yes.”
Aerion wandered slowly around the room, hands clasped behind his back.“You’ve always complained I spend too much time tormenting servants, too much time gambling, too much time chasing women.” Aerion stopped before him. “And now I’ve accidentally found the solution.”
Maekar barked a dry laugh. “I dread to hear it.”
“You’ve spent years demanding I behave like a prince, you’ve threatened to marry me off before.” Aerion spread his hands.
“So let me.”
Maekar blinked. “What?”
Aerion nodded towards the infirmary,“Let her remain.”
“As a fraud?”
“As my intended.” His eyes dropped and darkened, a shy smile playing upon his lips.
“You cannot possibly be serious Aerion, you met the girl yesterday.” He snarled, taking a seat at his table. Head resting on the back of his knuckles, if age, sickness or war didn’t take him it would surely be his children causing his death.
“You don’t even know her name.”
Aerion paused. “Minor inconvenience.”
Maekar looked heavenward. “Seven save me.”
“You wished for me to settle.” He nodded once.
“I wished for you to mature.”
Aerion smiled, every inch the silver tongued prince. “If I am occupied with a bride, I’ll have considerably less time climbing out of noblewomen’s windows.”
Maekar said nothing.
“I’ll have heirs to think about.”
Silence.
“I’ll spend my evenings with a wife instead of terrorising half the castle.”
Another silence.
“I might even become respectable.”
Maekar snorted. “Let’s not wander into fantasy.”
Aerion grinned. “You’ve always said responsibility changes a man.”
“I did.”
“Allow me the opportunity to prove you right.”
Maekar watched him carefully, perhaps the first time in years…
His son wasn’t asking for more wine.
Or another horse.
Or permission to enter another tourney.
He was asking to keep a girl he’d met less than a day ago by maintaining perhaps the most outrageous lie ever uttered within the walls of Summerhall.
It was utterly ridiculous.
Completely irresponsible and yet… It was the first time Aerion had willingly tied himself to something that might outlast his own amusement.
Maekar’s eyes narrowed. “You aren’t in love.”
Aerion laughed. “Gods, no.”
“Then why?”
The prince answered without hesitation.
“Because she’s interesting.”
Maekar groaned. “I preferred you when you were setting tapestries on fire.”
“They burned beautifully.”
The older man rubbed at his temples. “If I allow this insanity to continue, there will be rules.”
Aerion’s smile slowly returned. “I suspected there might.”
“You will treat her with respect.”
“I always intended to.”
“You will not touch her until she knows the truth.”
Aerion opened his mouth.
Maekar raised one finger. “I mean it.”
Aerion closed it again and considered it, so he sighed dramatically.
Maekar pointed towards the door. “Now leave my sight, go on. Fuck off.”
Aerion bowed with exaggerated elegance. “As you command, Father.”
As he reached the doorway, Maekar called for him once more. “Aerion.”
He glanced over his shoulder.
“If this ends with the girl trying to have you beheaded? don’t expect me to stop her.” Maekar smiled without warmth.
Aerion’s answering grin was positively wicked. “I’d expect nothing less.”

By the second day, Summerhall had ceased discussing anything else.
Servants whispered while scrubbing stone floors.
Knights speculated over breakfast.
Ladies embroidered beneath open windows while exchanging increasingly impossible theories.
“She’s said to be from across the Narrow Sea.” They whispered.
“I heard she arrived with twenty ships.” They’d speculate.
“I heard Prince Aerion smiled at her.”That earned a pause. “Now that cannot be true.”
Across the castle, the rumours grew larger with every retelling the kitchens buzzed with excitement.
“A wedding!”
“It has been years since we’ve had one.”
“I wonder what she’ll wear.”
“I wonder if she’ll survive it.” Survive him.
No one knew quite what to make of it.Prince Aerion Targaryen was to wed.
Some pitied the mysterious princess.
Most simply thanked the Seven that they weren’t involved.

Aegon adored mysteries, at eight years old, everything hidden deserved to be discovered.
Secret passages.
Locked towers.
Abandoned armouries.
And now… A princess no one had ever seen.
He waited until the maester left carrying a tray of medicines before darting down the corridor, the guards outside the chamber exchanged amused looks. “His Grace said no visitors.”
“I’m not a visitor,” Aegon declared proudly. “I’m family.” Before either guard could decide whether that counted the little prince slipped through the door not knowing what to expect, he couldn’t phantom the idea of someone willingly to marry Aerion, the monster.
She was awake.
Sunlight pooled across the blankets where she sat, carefully attempting to braid her own hair with one arm that still protested every movement.
She looked up as the door opened. “Oh.”
A small boy with silver hair stood grinning at her. “You must be the princess.” He expected a monster, someone else cruel or mad enough for his brother.
She smiled warmly. “I… believe I am?”
“You don’t sound certain.”
“I’m still remembering.”
“Oh.” He accepted that immediately.
“I’m Aegon.”
She smiled wider. “It’s lovely to meet you, Aegon.” He marched straight across the room and climbed onto the edge of her bed without invitation. “I’m Prince Aegon.” He corrected himself, head high and a soft blink of his eyes.
“Then it’s lovely to meet you, Prince Aegon.”
“You don’t have to call me prince.”
“I don’t?”
“No.” He leaned closer conspiratorially. “Only when Father’s listening.”
She laughed softly. “I’ll remember that.”
He looked delighted. “So…” His violet eyes sparkled with curiosity. “Is it true you’re marrying Aerion?”
Her cheeks warmed. “Apparently.”
“You don’t sound certain about that either.”
She smiled sheepishly. “I’ve forgotten rather a lot.”
“Oh.” He considered that, looking at her head that still had a bandage carefully wrapped around. “Does your head still hurt?”
“Less than before.” She admitted, milk of the poppy had helped.
“My brother says his horse kicked you.” He didn’t believe it at first, no one did.“He bites people sometimes too.”
“He sounds charming.” You laughed enjoying the young prince’s company.
“He isn’t.” Aegon wrinkled his nose. “But Aerion likes him.”
She laughed again, the sound seemed to surprise even herself. Aegon decided immediately that he liked her.
She wasn’t frightening like Aerion.
She wasn’t stiff like court ladies.
She answered every question, so he asked another. “Where are you from?”
She smiled. “The Isle of Auradon.”
Aegon’s brow furrowed. “Where?”
“Auradon.” She repeated.
“I’ve never heard of it.” He searched his brain, maybe she had gotten it wrong? Maybe he could fetch her a map?
“It’s east.”
“East of where?” He questioned.
She hesitated. “Everything.”
He blinked. “My brother told you that, didn’t he?” Aegon’s face scrunched in concentration. “I know all the kingdoms.”
“Oh? You do?”
“I’ve got a map.” His voice filled with pride. “Father says every prince should know the world.”
“I’m sure Auradon is on it.”
“I don’t think it is.”
She frowned for the first time. “Perhaps it’s too small.” He shook his head slowly.
“I really don’t think..” The chamber door swung open as aerion stopped on the threshold. His eyes flicked from Aegon, then to the woman and immediately narrowed. “What,” he asked pleasantly, “are you doing?” A fake warm smile. “Brother?”
Aegon smiled. “Talking.”
“I can see that.”
“I’m asking questions.”
“I can see that as well.”
“I like her.”
The woman smiled between them. “He has excellent manners.” Aerion looked at his younger brother. “He absolutely does not.”
“I do!” Aegon squeaked, of all the people to accuse him of having no manners was shocking. “You climbed into a recovering woman’s chambers uninvited.” Aerion folded his arms. “Out.” He held the door open, pointing towards the corridor.
Aegon sighed dramatically. “You always ruin everything.”
“I strive for consistency.” He smiled.
The younger prince hopped from the bed, shriving towards his brother. “I was only asking where she’s from.” Aerion’s expression didn’t change. “Were you?”
“She said Auradon.” Aegon pulled him closer by the sleeve, with a playful smile.
“I’ve never heard of Auradon, is it near Pentos?” Aerion crouched down as if the conversation was private. “Further.”
“Braavos?”
“Further.”
“The Wall?” Aerion stared at him “Remarkably, yes.”
Aegon frowned. “The Wall isn’t east.”
“It is if you approach it creatively.”
“I don’t think that’s how directions work.”
“It is for princes.”
Aegon opened his mouth again, but Aerion stood and pointed firmly at the door. “Out.” The younger boy huffed loudly enough for the entire corridor to hear before trudging towards the exit.
“But..”
“Now!” Aerion gritted his teeth.
Halfway through the doorway he stopped. “I still don’t think Auradon’s real.”
Aerion smiled. “And yet…” He gently closed the door in his brother’s face. “here we are.”
Silence settled once more, the woman looked at him curiously. “Aegon is sweet, he reminds me of someone.”
Aerion’s heart gave the smallest jolt, “Does he?”
She frowned, pressing fingers lightly against her temple. “For just a moment…”
Something had stirred.
A face.
A laugh.
A little boy running through sunlight.
Then… Nothing.
The memory vanished as quickly as it had come, she lowered her hand. “No.” Aerion watched her carefully. “What is it?”
“I thought…” She offered an apologetic smile. “I thought I remembered something.”
“And did you?”
She shook her head. “It slipped away.” For reasons he couldn’t quite explain, aerion found himself strangely relieved.
He crossed the room and poured her a fresh cup of watered wine. “Then don’t chase it.”
She accepted the cup. “What if it’s important?”
He met her eyes. “If it truly matters…” His smile returned, smooth as silk. “it will find its way back.”
He only hoped, when it did? it wouldn’t be that the Kingdom of Auradon had never existed at all.
