{dickjay sketches} AbsoluteBatman MECHA AU I love mecha anime and I couldn't resist to draw Captain Grayson and Pilot Todd ft. Slade living the dream.
{dickjay sketches} Jaybin's a cinnamon roll !
It's only because he's never experienced it for himself that Dick doesn't recognize it right off, but once he does he sits with it, contemplative and with a sense of wonderment: he's being bullied.
That he didn't notice says as much about him as it does the boneheads trying to twist his arm. In Dick's defense though, the workload isn't too much and the difficulty of the cases isn't anything too challenging (a good thing for Gotham, though the mind-numbing boredom he feels says otherwise).
There's a stark difference between the case files that pile up on his desk compared to the other officers though. And while Dick is confident he could clear through the stack quickly, it'd undoubtedly draw attention he's not looking for.
So Dick sits with his growing mountain of cases - all of them notably the castoffs the others weren't able to figure out for themselves. Old, written off charges filed mostly by the rougher parts of Gotham - all the places the police don't want to bother with.
It might piss his colleagues off that he settles matters they couldn't, that his closure rate on cases puts them to shame and lower on the list for promotion. If only because it's funny, Dick plays oblivious and does his exorbitant amount of work with a smile.
But the point stands: Dick is being bullied. It doesn't necessarily bother him, but it's an enlightening, interesting experience. The detectives and officers instigating the hazing couldn't have picked a worse person to try and torment though. From headlining with a circus to working alongside Batman - Dick isn't someone easily overworked or broken. He thrives on challenges and being pushed to his limits and past them.
What's more, Dick doesn't scare easily. Nothing scarier than him, honestly.
So within the self-imposed limitations Dick gives himself (because he's a civilian, not a trained vigilante with more experience on the job than off), Dick carries on and takes all the fun out of his cohorts attempts at a power play. All while slowly winning over the precinct and leaving his bullies more and more isolated. Until they'll be forced to grow up or run the risk of being ostracized and with a mark for harassment in their record.
'You're diabolical.' Jason tells him when Dick starts to tell him about his days. It should be a nasty accusation that anyone else would take offense to, but Jason says it with such an adoring, pleased smile that Dick knows he's being praised.
(The only reason he tells Jason about his plans at all is because Dick lets slip his situation and Jason immediately starts demanding names. If only because Dick knows Jason will see to remedying the situation with aggressive efficiency, Dick refrains. A point of contention that lasts less than a day because Jason simply surprises Dick at work and pinpoints the officers for himself. For their safety, Dick has to share his plans).
All his borderline sociopathic behavior and the way Dick follows through on his machinations gets him laid more times than he can count. From the moment he walks in through the door; until he's nearly late for work the following days.
Pillow talk consists of Jason throwing out his own suggestions for how Dick should retaliate - each suggestion more extreme and outlandish than the next until Jason makes himself cackle, until Dick is caught snickering too, their laughter lost between kisses because Dick will always want more of this - Jason.
'Can't believe you're being bullied.' It's as hard for Jason to fathom as it was for Dick to realize it was happening at all. It makes him titter though, tickled because it's so ridiculous. And Dick smiles at him, tender and endeared.
It's more a courtesy than a rule that they don't take advantage of anyone that's been unfortunate enough to be downed with a truth serum. Unfortunately, accidents happen.
More unfortunate still - Jason does it to himself. It's the most blatant show of self-sabotage he's ever witnessed or experienced; a feat, considering Jason has gotten himself killed (and set himself up to die the exact same way when he got a second chance, to boot).
I love your writing so much, I put on notifications so I can read everything IMMEDIATELY because it's so good and I love your little sneak peaks into Jayson and Dick's (love) life so bad. Hope you have an amazing day and the muses will always inspire you!
Thank you so much, anon. Knowing there's someone who enjoys my little posts so much makes me really happy 🥰❤️!!
It's inevitable that when one of them gets sick, the other isn't far behind. Somehow, despite the inconvenience of it, it's not the worst thing in the world like it was when they'd both weather their illnesses alone.
Because when they're together, they both squeeze onto their couch, curled up or stretched out; toes burrowed beneath thighs or feet nudging shoulders, toes stretching out to bump each other's ears. Acting a nuisance to pass the time because being sick is boring.
Based on my WTMBU!dickjay
Jason's always had a habit of pushing boundaries. A coping mechanism, he's been told, because it lets him have some measure of control over any violence directed at him.
Because when Jason knows where someone's hard lines and strict limits are, he can anticipate and react to them better-faster-safer. Because it gives him the power to choose when, how, why someone will lash out at him.
Just Dick, Jason and Tim perched along the edge of a building with one cigarette shared between them. It's something they do sometimes. To decompress. To have a moment's peace. To simply be with each other.
It's one of those slower, quieter days. Jason doesn't blow smoke at them and Dick doesn't puff rings that fade away into wisps on the breeze; Tim doesn't fidget with the lighter. They're all just - there. Together.
Jason's always thought there was something romantic to the way Selina would bait Batman to chase her. It was a power play with her stealing a formidable, dangerous man's attention, his time. She was always so pleased afterwards, too. Like the cat that got the cream.
The romance in leading a chase is not universal though, as it turns out. There's nothing cute or empowering about it at all.
Because this isn't a playful, flirtatious game Jason baited some beau into; this is him running for his damn life and losing.
For all the times Jason daydreamed about being pursued by his own 'Batman,' Jason didn't mean like this with a fucking Talon nipping at his heels.
Everyone told them to be more mindful of how they acted in front of Damian because pups are quick to learn behaviors.
Needless to say, they didn't heed the warning and now they're paying the consequences.
It's the first time Jason thinks he's ever seen Dick look embarrassed and he can't even enjoy it because Jason himself is mortified.
Because Damian bit him. Not just an affectionate puppy nip, but a full on stitches-needed bite.
The fact of the matter is that Dick is a very intense workaholic industrious person. It's a quality that both impresses Jason and leaves him exasperated if only because it leads to instances like this - with Dick abandoning whatever menial task was at hand to explore whatever epiphany his overactive, extraordinary mind came up with in a rush of inspired brilliance.
At the very least, Dick finished showering, but that's about all Jason can say because Dick's hair is still wet and he only got so far with getting dressed, too, apparently.
Priorities, as it goes. Jason can't really fault a guy for being passionate. That doesn't mean Jason doesn't roll his eyes at the extremes Dick sometimes takes it to.
'Sometimes I wonder about you.' Jason tells him, trying to sound miffed but only hearing fondness.
Ok but in your recent post, where tim makes the comment that Jason is dating someone (Dick) like his dad (Bruce), how does Bruce react when he realizes Jason isn't denying Bruce is his dad?
A singular manly tear rolls down that man's face and when it slips from his chin it reflects the light of the batcomputer and sparkles before it hits the keyboard with the most dramatic slow-mo splash. 🥲
i just wanted to message u and lyk how much i appreciate you posting sm recently, it's actually a highlight in my day. it's so lovely to see you so active!!! i adore your writings 002yb
Thank you so much! 🥰 I go through a lot of creative highs and lows so the post quantity kind of varies a lot (sorry about that), but I appreciate that you’ve stuck around to notice the recent activity and that you’ve been enjoying it. 🥹 Thank you for the support!!✨❤️
Everyone knows something is wrong because Dick is decidedly pissy. It takes a lot to make him angry, to test his patience or cause him to brood.
Whatever happened must be severe though because the atmosphere around Dick is suffocating. Just looking at him feels dangerous, but up close there's a heavy, crushing weight to the very air around him.
More unnerving still is how Jason is glowing, almost manic in his giddiness. Uncharacteristically smiley and cackling to himself every so often.
Do you have an AO3 account? Are you planning to make one???? 🤔
I do! My Ao3 account is 002yb. 😊
Fifteen, the tombstone reads, but Dick knows that Jason was younger still. It’s not like the kid had a birth certificate. It was easy for Bruce to have one forged, to make Jason into all the things the man needed Jason to be. Being older was more convenient. Being older stayed some of the heartache, the remorse. Barriers, Dick recognizes in hindsight, because Bruce does everything he can to put distance between himself and the child he failed.
A good soldier. A cautionary tale. Brash, violent, defiant. A son, a boy; his.
