obsessed with the late 90s–early 2000s. super passionate about heisei culture/history. this blog is mainly dedicated to style inspo and other things i love from that era. i’ve been on and off tumblr for years, but i’ve been really hyped recently and wanted a dedicated space to appreciate it properly.

i think this might might partially be my own bias talking… but i think it’s extremely important for those who who are interested in heisei gyaru to also take the time to learn about the broader culture of that era, not just gyaru itself. like really think about what was trending in pop culture? what was happening socially and politically? what fashion trends (in japan and globally) were influencing the scene?
gyaru doesn’t exist in a bubble, the look and attitude are shaped by its environment, and that’s exactly why the style has evolved so drastically over the years. if you’re engaging with gyaru purely on an aesthetic, surface level, you’re missing a huge part of what makes it what it is.
if you’re drawn to a certain period or trend, really immerse yourself in the world it came from. learn what shaped those styles and what everyday life, trends, and attitudes were like for the gals of that time.
understanding this context fully can make you just more well informed in general and can make your style more intentional. hashtag stay historically educated gals.
