i would like to reiterate that trending ≠ invalid.

the witch-hunting that is currently going on over radio collar ID usage seems extremely similar to 2023ish therian tiktok, in which everybeing was constantly being questioned and interrogated, with misinformation rampant.

if i learned one thing from being on alterhuman tiktok in that time, it is that for the most part, it just does not matter.

so, radio collar IDs might be trending. yes, i understand how that could be frustrating, but there is no "faking using an ID". it is personal and arbitrary.

nothing about widespread ID usage takes away from your personal experience, just because something is trending does not make it "not valid". i feel as though this is the same mindset beings are in when they say things like "well wolf therians aren't valid because there are so many!"

i will say it again because i feel this is an important message that is not getting through to enough critters: having a "common" identity or experience has nothing to do with how "valid" you are. others having the same experience or identity takes nothing away from you or your validity.

please do not witch-hunt each other.

On the topic of ID numbers being a “trend”, I would like to reiterate the fact that this is no such thing for me. It is an integral part of my identity, and has been since I discovered their existence over a year ago.

Just because something is popular does not mean it's not helping some creatures.

Radio Collar ID replacement for Horse alterhumans

i noticed somewhat of a trend of radio collar ids for wild canines so i looked into it. But since they are not as popular for wild horses i propose something else: Freeze Brands

They are used by the american BLM (Bureau of Land Management) and are actually an 8-digit ID;

The last three digits narrow the location even more down. A pdf with a lot of those "herd codes" can be found here:

Obviously this isn't a perfect solution, but i really liked the idea and wanted to share my take on it.

Since i am not american but my country doesn't really have any actually wild horses (just some in nature reserves so there is no real need for monitoring) i adapted it a bit:

Ok, my dear other birds, I’d like to make yall aware of something.

Bird leg tags as rings. I think (if I’ve mathed this out right) a 20mm one should fit one of my fingers, it’s also a split ring so I can adjust a little.

And we can put our ID numbers and names on them.

Also, would other birds be interested in a directory of us birds using our ID numbers? Please tell me if so.
