With three movies to compare between, I really appreciate how each Knives Out movie explores justice from a different thematic angle, not based on the murder that was committed but based on the cruelty that led to that murder.

In Knives Out, a compassionate, ethical young woman treats everyone around her with generosity, and the people around her repeatedly try to take advantage of her kindness to force her into losing the fortune that was gifted to her by a dear friend. There, justice means that she keeps the fortune and decides that actually, she doesn't have to be kind and giving to people who've proven themselves assholes.

In Glass Onion, a woman loses her sister to a gang of wealthy, successful people who've sacrificed their principles for the sake of ambition and ego. There, justice means that everyone involved will be made notorious: whatever their other accomplishments, they will forever be known for being complicit in the burning of the most famous painting in history.

In Wake Up Dead Man, the church takes advantage of a young girl's loyalty and faith to place her under a lifelong burden and fill her with guilt, shame, and hatred. Justice means helping her understand what was done to her and the women around her, and giving her compassion so she can find peace.

This is cool because it means the movies contradict each other! The compassionate justice of Wake Up Dead Man would be totally misplaced in Knives Out, and so would the toppling-monuments justice of Glass Onion. And because each movie has something different to say, they all stand on their own and feel fresh.

This is also why Benoit Blanc is the uniting figure but never the protagonist of these movies. He's an agent of legal justice in that he's the detective and it's his job to figure out whodunnit, but the protagonist -- Marta, Andi and now Jud -- is always the character who delivers thematic justice.

IT WAS a beach episode.

we were all led to be like "oh ofc the episode titled Beach Episode, referring to an episode of TV where the plot doesn't progress and everyone goofs off and characters get to be just interacting, is going to be SUPER LORE HEAVY and crazy"

and then like stuff happened

Nothing Happened. in the end, Nothing Progressed. (i mean, i think character things occurred, but them getting out of the circus? nope.) it was all a random caine adventure. it was character focused.

I was looking at the episode credits cuz I wanted to see who voiced Abel and-

RIBBIT HAS A VA???? (I’m assuming in that muffled conversation we hear when Jax is looking at the snow adventure in Caine’s office, because I’m pretty sure I didn’t see where else it could be???? Idk maybe my memory is that bad)

Oh and they definitely got the mugs from that snow adventure (maybe it was the last time they were all together or something)

Anyway this episode was crazy (Kinger I know you know something more who is Scratch, if he was in the dark more he would’ve clocked it being an adventure) and good luck to Caine fans!

Oh and Zach Hadel was there.

Next episode, I need White Lily to talk to Silent Salt. I need her to tell him that she knows him. That she understands him. That she's been in his place, and still is now. She, too, has made grave mistakes. She, too, bears a great burden; she, too, is haunted by the guilt and shame of her dark past. I need her to try to reason with him. Look him in the eye, stand toe to toe with him as his equal, his other half, and tell him that he need not despair. I need her to reassure him that his dream came true in the end. His dream for a better world, one where great power is earned and those worthy of it use it with fairness and wisdom, is real now. The new Virtues came to be, and new heroes rose to claim them, and have since proven themselves worthy of the power time and time again - moreso than their predecessors ever did. I need her to tell him that hope and solidarity are still alive. That it is never too late to atone. She has come to accept herself and her failures, and now strives to correct them and improve herself, and in turn improve the world, and he can do this too. She wants the same thing he did, and still does deep down.

And I need him to listen. If he can't or won't join her right away, then I need him to leave, still having taken her words to heart, striding off to contemplate them and what he can and must do next. No matter what he does, I need him to raise his sword high and take a stand against the Beasts again, like he did before. I need him to be grateful towards White Lily, if not outwardly then in the refuge of his thoughts, for getting through to him and giving him hope again. Perhaps he can't mend the tear in his soul right then and there, but now he acknowledges that it's possible and maybe someday, he really could
