they stole his whimsy
it was outrageous , a husband torn between his loyalties to his wife , his queen && his treacherous family . have they not plotted behind not only her back but also her father's ? he was the king , he had changed the succession law by name her his rightful heir . every single one of them have disregarded his word , usurped her solely for the fact of being a woman ― the queen has had enough preparation , she could rule as any other man , better than any other man . the man before her was no different , he was well aware of how capable rhaenyra was , he had looked forward for this day ― the day she finally ascended the throne , crowned by the septon before the people of king's landing . but alas , it had been a quiet ceremony in dragonstone with her father's crown placed upon her brow .
it was when he had lowered himself to his knees && those hands cupped her face that her façade dropped even if just slightly . the choices she had given them , the mercy she had offered , all of it was wasted by them ― because how could she ever harm her half-siblings ? now , she had no other choice , there was no way out . his voice , the look in his eyes , it had made her let out a soft sigh through her nostrils as their gazes locked . no matter if they still bickered as they did during their youth , rhaenyra had grown into feeling fond of him ― perhaps a stronger feeling , yet whether it was truly romantic or not , that was still unknown to her . they cared for each other , it was what mattered . nevertheless , it was the words that followed that had her hardening once more , the more he spoke , the more visible her anger was in her features . with a scoff && a shove to his hands to keep them off her face , she stands , restless pacing begins not too long after before turning to glance at him . ❛ ⠀ you are suggesting me , your queen , to find a different approach ? to give them more mercy than they have already ignored ? ⠀ ❜ hands clench at her sides , head shaking as the softness in those purple-mauve orbs disappear completely . ❛ ⠀ do not assume you can tell me what to do solely for being my husband . they have taken much from me , they are traitors not only to me but to the realm . ⠀ ❜
⁀➴༯ ... THEY HAVE KNOWN EACH OTHER FOR SO LONG & he does not know if this is real love , but it definitely is a deep connection . platonic perhaps , but real nevertheless .
but now , she is pushing him away . she shoves his hand away from her & stands . she is slipping and every now and then , gwayne finds himself thinking about what some people say about targaryens . but no , not rhaenyra , she is different , she is a queen , SHE IS HIS QUEEN and he would never doubt her . gwayne hightower is nothing but a knight . nothing but her husband , someone to have her back , not stab her in it .
gwayne gets to his feet , and his eyes follow her as she moves . ❛ rhaenyra . ❜ usually does he address her with her title , not her name , but gwayne feels as if this is the right time now . her name used to taste sweet on his tongue , used to fill him with happiness , and now he says it ... because he hopes it will appeal to her on a more emotional level . ❛ i am aware , i am aware of that ... ❜ his voice is quiet and soft & he does not move from where he stands , simply turns his head to follow her movements through the room . ❛ i am not telling you what to do , i am asking you, no ... i am begging you ... AS YOUR HUSBAND , to think about my family too . my sister and my niece , YOUR half sister ... they have done nothing to warrant a cruel fate . ❜ he assumes , perhaps reminding her of sweet helaena will do something .

gwayne loves all his siblings , but if he had to choose then yes , he would always say he loves alicent the most . god , he is going to war for her . not for otto , not for himself , for her . he loves her so much he would die for her in the blink of an eye ( and in a way , he does . )

❛ oh , sweet sister ... ❜ he begins , his hands already - almost out of instinct want to reach out ! ... but he stops himself before he can touch her . they are siblings , brother & sister and yet he sometimes feels as though they are seperated , miles apart , on different parts of the kingdom . ❛ i could never do such a thing . ❜ because his heart beats and his lungs breathe for his family . his sister , his brothers ( and even his father ) gwayne swallows , and he eventually finds himself stepping closer to her . his hands raise to cup her cheeks . raise her gaze to look at him . ❛ you are my sister . and i carry so much love for you inside of my heart , nothing ... and i mean nothing , could ever change that . ❜

what a cruel twist of fate that is , indeed . you dont know if she ever held you , if she even chose your name ... ( or perhaps father chose to give you the name you now have without your mother knowing ) it was never meant to be like this , even you know it . you feel it while you grow up . you dont know how a mothers embrace feels like & everything you know about her is a telltale from older sister and brother .

the knights were set to leave in the morrow, and take the hightower with them. it is why, perhaps, the witch had gone through such lengths to seek him out : beneath the shadows that grow longer simply because she asks them to, until she finds gwayne. the witch is dressed in only the thin, violet silks of her nightgown, and a robe of a darker hue over it. how lithe fingers reach for his own, gently curling around them to bring his hands closer to her. she looks up at him, the dark tresses of her hair not unlike the night that frames the moon above. ❛ be safe, my lord, when the time for you to depart comes. ❜ the tilt of her head, the way the brown hues of her eyes mimic the gentleness of a doe. ❛ i will pray that the mother guides you, and those at your side. ❜
