the crown had a power that crushed .          a warning   &&   yet it did not stop being any less of a truth .          each passing day ,   the queen could feel herself shifting ,   becoming someone she was not ,   yet she was not quite ready to accept it   ―   her mind was plagued with thoughts she'd have recoiled from before becoming the queen of the seven kingdoms .          the grief ,   the sadness she had felt that sent her into a pit of despair were now long replaced by pure ,   raw rage ,   the only desire she had was to put every single of her enemies to the sword ,   especially those that have caused the death of her children .          often times she had wondered if this was worth it ,   if having sacrificed so much for a throne made of swords would be enough to fill that hole in her chest .          nevertheless ,   there was no doubt in who the gods have chosen to rule for they had sent dragons to serve her ,   they clearly favoured her   &&   it was a sign from the divine .

it was not often the times she had visited the sept ,   not since she had lost her companion to a marriage with her father   ―   places like these seemed to haunt her ,   in a way ,   with memories that used to be happy rather than bittersweet as they were now .          nevertheless ,   he was to be her husband ,   better him than some stranger ,   an older lord from a land she did not care to think of .          despite having given the chance to choose a suitor on her own ,   she was chosen by her father   ―   still ,   better him than another .          she stands right behind him ,   hands clasped behind her lower back as her eyes raise to watch the statues of the seven around the altar   ―   her eyes meet the mother's first ,   then the warrior's as she lingers on him for a moment .

@zaldarias (continued from here) bounds down the hallway, stride quick. alicent readies herself, hand on handle as she tugs it open & leans just far enough outward to grab hold of rhaenyra & yank her inside.

queen wastes no time in connecting their lips to one another, in wrapping one of her arms around rhaenyra's waist to pull her as close toward her own body as possible. the free one had followed her queens movement when it the side of her face, fingers wrapping 'round wrist as if to hold warmth of palm against her skin. ❛ i have missed you, all day. it has been terrible. ❜ woman chuckles shortly before it is cut off when rhaenyra deepens their kiss. embracing rhaenyra, pressing their mouths together, had always felt like tasting the sun--alicent's entire body felt warm, a tingle in her fingers or a flutter in the depths of her stomach. it was all she ever wanted & for once, the queen had gotten what she wanted in the end. however, when their kiss is broken & rhaenyra speaks the warmth she felt slowly fades out. the sadness returns, a shared one she knows. eyes turn to look into hers, ❛ we cannot. ❜ regret for it is heard in tone, ❛ you .. you have just begun to find your stride with queendom, rhaenyra. people respect you, listen to you. this will shatter that. ❜ a sigh, ❛ we must wait. ❜

secrecy was not an issue ,   not for the queen ,   at least .          how many secrets has she hid from the court ,   the realm ,   her entire life ?          she could live this one for as long as necessary ,   or even until her breath stopped .          nevertheless ,   it was unfair ,   her husband   ―   only in name by now   ―   was free to do as he pleased as long as he did not embarrass her in front of the realm   &&   yet she had to hide in the dark of the night to be able to follow what her heart sought of her .          it was also true their stolen gazes ,   shared smiles   &&   subtle touches had started to become suspicious ,   enough eyes had been placed on them each time they were in the same room .          it'd be easier for them if the queen told her council about them ,   the conqueror had taken two wives ,   as a ruler ,   she could take two spouses .          no matter if one of them was another woman .

the look in her eyes did not go unnoticed ,   how the warmth left them ,   how the shifted to something akin to disappointment   &&   perhaps even regret for the words that followed .          it was a shock ,   it reflected in those violet hues   &&   in the way the queen had taken a step back with arms falling at her sides in a nearly defeated way .          was that not what they both had wanted their entire lives ?          to be together ,   without hiding ,   without any wedges between them or tensions .          this was the perfect moment for it ,   the gods had laid this out for them ,   a chance they should be taking rather than ignoring .          she completely disengages from her then ,   taking a step back ,   then another ,   until her weight is leaned on a leg ,   thumb twirling with a ring around a finger as she looks at her .          in silence at first ,   because she had held back the urge of storming out of the room .          ❛ ⠀ so you believe we can ...          what ,   exactly ?          live hidden ,   in a lie ,   in secrecy ,   for the rest of our lives ? ⠀ ❜          a scoff leaves her ,   head shaking before she approaches her ,   nevertheless ,   there's a distance between them .          ❛ ⠀ will this lie not be our own undoing in the end ?          you said those words yourself ,   alicent . ⠀ ❜

joan of arc .          a strong ,   witty ,   intelligent ,   pragmatic   &&   a highly capable military strategist young woman who rose to prominence during the hundred years’ war ,   rallying the french against the english .          strong female leader in a male dominated world ,   despite how her situation was more military   &&   religious in nature than political ,   she was a symbol of resistance   &&   used as a pawn in larger political struggles .

empress matilda .          the daughter of a reigning monarch ,   henry i of england ,   with a strong claim to the throne .          the first woman to be named as heir to the english throne   &&   she fought fiercely for her succession .          despite having fought a long   &&   bitter civil war regarding her succession against her cousin who had seized the throne after her father’s death ,   she was never crowned queen .          given the chance she was crowned ,   she would have been the first english queen to rule in her own right .

isabella i of castille .          alongside her husband ferdinand of aragon ,   she played a crucial role in the unification of spain .          their marriage   &&   joint rule established a powerful dynasty ,   but she had to navigate complex politics   &&   challenges from rival fractions .          although she did not exactly face a civil war regarding succession ,   her life   &&   reign revolved struggles over power   &&   authority .          

cleopatra vii .          the last pharaoh of egypt who ruled egypt for nearly three decades ,   known for her intelligence ,   she was her father's favorite .          she had to fight a civil war for the throne against members of her own family ,   such as ptolemy xiii .          most notorious for her political competence ,   her diplomatic efforts   &&   many alliances ,   her position was threatened by different forces ,   both external   &&   internal .

queen elizabeth i .          emerged from a difficult   &&   contested succession ,   following the reign   &&   death of her father ,   henry viii .          she had to navigate the complicated politics of the english monarchy   &&   lived through several challenges to her authority ,   including strong rivals considered threats ,   such as her cousin ,   mary ,   queen of scots .  

empress theodora .          one of the most powerful women in byzantine history who played a crucial role in the politics of the byzantine empire .          she used her power   &&   influence to promote religious   &&   social policies that were important to her   &&   was one of the first rulers to recognize the rights of women .          had to use her intelligence ,   political acumen   &&   influence to secure her position in a patriarchal world .

mary ,   queen of scots .          ascended to the throne at only six years of age   &&   fought to maintain her claim to the throne .          her reign was surrounded by constant political intrigue ,   conspiracies   &&   difficulties to maintain her position .          alienated from her closest advisors ,   her monarchy floundered .          after failing to quash a rebellion of scottish peers ,   mary was imprisoned   &&   forced to abdicate in favor of her one year old son .

there's a distinct lack of warmth within the walls of summerhall ;   the first tendrils of that darkness had swept in shortly after his mother's death.   it seemed what remained had been snuffed out the moment his uncle fell and failed to rise again.   there was something like regret in aerion's breast, a hard to understand feeling that nipped at him at times, like an insect at his skin.   but it wasn't anything that had come about before, and so there was no way to compare it.   no way to determine just what he was missing, or perhaps finally experiencing.

none of it mattered either way.

just shy of a year had it been since his exile began, and in that time alone had whispers of aerion the monstrous begun to spread within the free cities.   yet before he could truly take a foothold for himself out there, he'd been called back.   standing inside summerhall now, the princeling no longer feels as if he's moulded into the correct shape.   that otherness had spread, rendering him misaligned with what it meant to be here.

his arms are folded behind his back when rhaenyra's figure comes into view, his head bowing forward slightly in a polite show of respect.

“ ñāmar, ”   his voice is soft as he greets her, nothing of the vicious boy she'd seen during the ashford meadow tourney.   there's no viper laying in wait here, like so many would accuse him of, like how so many would whisper and warn her.   a boy who had once clutched at her skirts, following after her should his father and uncle be otherwise occupied.

if the tensions had been tearing their family apart ,   the events that held place at the ashford tourney had made it all much worse .          her beloved brother had lost his life in the middle of the trial ,   one caused by aerion himself ,   his choice it was ,   then whispers continued to follow regarding the action having been done on purpose   ―   for maekar's jealousy ,   they said ,   always referred to as baelor's brother ,   nothing else .          rhaenyra knew better ,   she had seen the grief ,   the regret   &&   guilt in those eyes the last time she had seen him ,   how devastated he was   &&   yet even more so for his decisions to send aerion away .          essos ,   the free cities ,   she had offered to give him a place to stay in lys .          because she wanted to take it upon herself to set him straight .          rhaenyra could do it ,   she was confident in it ,   she could bring back that small boy that excitely followed after her so many years ago .
