5 common internet myths about notorious serial killers: debunked.
The “Jeffrey Dahmer” Snow-Bong
This looks a lot like Dahmer, but can be traced back to the year 2002- much later than Dahmer. It was originally posted by a Reddit user with the caption “So I just found this photo of Jeffrey Dahmer…” which gives no credibility at all. The picture went viral and was re-posted by many popular websites.
2. Jeffrey Dahmer’s mattress
Nope. This is a still from the 2007 film, The Cleaner. - Skip to the 8 second mark of this trailer to see the exact same image.
3. Ed Gein’s tongue necklace
Really? This one is just ridiculous, no offence. Firstly, who would pose… naked… with a necklace made out of tongues? Secondly, if you do a little research you’ll see that this is a very clever re-creation of the tongue necklace worn by Mary Anne Belle from the short story collection The Things They Carried. (LINK)
4. Rare picture of John Wayne Gacy
Sadly, this isn’t Pogo nor Buttons, the only two Gacy clown alter-egos. Gacy only owned two clown-costumes, and this is neither of them.
5. Ted Bundy nearly killed Blondie
Debbie Harry aka Blondie claimed that, whilst in New York, Ted Bundy persisted in giving her a lift because there were no taxis available. She said she jumped out the car when she noticed he was acting weird. This is almost certain to be untrue for a number of reasons. Most obviously, Harry does not fit his victim type at all- Bundy always went for girls with long, brunette hair that was parted down the middle. Also, Bundy was never in New York. He only operated in six states and there is no evidence of him ever being there. The dates are also off- She claimed this happened in 1973, when the earliest Bundy murders were committed a year later. Whether Blondie made this up for attention, or was kidnapped by a different creep, it is likely to be untrue.
Sincerely, Yours.
