Shadows Vs Highlights

Back before social media we used film. And when it came to celluloid, you had your darks and your lights. Kind of like in our personalities. You have a dark persona or a bright persona. and it is so rare to be able to show both to the world.

However that is no longer is the case. When using the various filters at our disposal to show the world our life, we can now digitally enhance how we present ourswlves. It is easy to tone down the brightness to a more sensible amount. We can also brighten and sharpen our dark side so it's a bit easier to take.

Travels with not Charlie

She ain't no poodle.

and I ain't no Steinbeck.

but having a travel buddy ain't too shabby.

She may want to chase every bird and dig up all the dirt in the world. Whenever she is reading the map we end up at the dog park, and my books on tape give her no joy.

Here we go again all over again. The brown dog has a brand new knee and can for the first time jump into "Van Dame" without me helping her in.

More edits to the van, including a awning and a dedicated tea and coffee box, you know the important stuff.

And now it's time to chase the falling and changing leaves. I missed them in Colorado, so I will head to the PNW. Specifically southern Oregon.

Its nice to be camping again.

Technicolor dream camera

My latest project is converting an technicolor© 8mm camera to fit a modern 4K camera.

i was lucky enough to make my first films on 8mm. Cutting and splicing. What a thing.

10700 first quarter

I got a chance to park the van for a while and take a break from the road to fix the dogs bad knee.

I can try and scratch my brain a bit about lessons learned in my first 6 months on the road.

having just pinched the corner of this country It's just so vast, amazing and unique.

If you never get off the interstate or always head to the airport you are missing the days upon days of sand, ditches, gullies, hill, cliffs, swamps, beaches, Wal-Marts, trailer parks, historic downtowns. All the same shit over and over state after state. It's beautiful, it's ugly and it can be sad.

but mostly it's just folks doin' stuff. And it doesn't work when a election year tries to push you left or right. We need to work hard to keep this giant boat afloat together. Because it's a big fucking boat, and we are lucky to have it.

leaving California is a mixed bag of emotions. When driving thru riverside and leaving the "LA basin" you can literally see the brown fog of pollution and exhaust you are leaving. As you drive away the gas station bathrooms have less graffiti and actually have doors and mirrors.

its hard to leave the ocean and the beautiful women, the ones who spend their days tanning, juicing and doing yoga. The same girls who are nice to look at but challenging to have a meaningful conversation with. It's hard to leave the amazing produce and fresh seafood you can buy from an actual fisherman.

Alas the dream that is the 1950's Calí is dead. Replaced with places like Orange County and the North County of San Diego.

too many people, golf courses and cars. Not enough water and a polluted sea. Time to move on, but she is always hard to see in my rear view mirror.
