It’s been awhile since I posted. This break was intentional. Been busy getting hot and bothered outside. Now, I’m busy being nerdy and cool inside. Much more efficient.
Starting things back up with a new title for myself, and a new post for HealthCetera, the blog of The Center for Health, Media & Policy. The lovely, incredibly intelligent folks over there have taken me on as their Graduate Fellow. I’ll be writing a column every Friday, and anywhere else in between. Get ready.
My blog today is about Nelson Mandela, and organizing yourself for illness and end of life. It’s a real shame that he apparently has no documented living will or illness legacy for his family to navigate his critical condition with.
Think about how much that just plain stinks! A man as remarkably accomplished as he is, having absolutely no control over anything that’s going on during the fight for his life?! Don’t get caught in this position; without a living will, you most definitely are. My article gives you all the tools you need to be prepared.
Going forward, I hope to showcase some writing of my colleagues and nurse friends. I’ll assume that the majority of the audience are nurses, and would relish the chance to hear each other’s thoughts and stories. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again - we nurses need to start talking - to each other, to our families, to the world. The invite is open - whenever you feel the urge to complain, write a blog post and send it my way.
Excited for the future, as always. Stay cool and stay tuned!
