The woods are lovely, dark and deep
Day 3: Aredhel for @nolofinweanweek
Eöl’s Meteorite
My contribution to @tolkienrsb 2025! I had the pleasure of working with @elentarial whose accompanying fic will be posted in the AO3 collection on September 6th!
Aredhel and Eol(in Celtic-style clothes, which is my canon style for Sindar ♥ ♥ ) made with ballpoint pen and cheap markers, the best medium for clothing design *_*
Eldritch Eol aka Moss king Eol
From a AU where he is either a full Maiar or a offspring from Melian
Maybe while she was standing almost frozen in time with Thingol in the woods he came to be and represents the more wild dark nature of Melian and the ancient Forest...
I used the Moss hc and @tar-thelien late night brainstorming for this! Here is one of her drawings
Since i wanted to give him more the vibes of something that doesn't like the sun I made his hair and colors to be very translucent looking. When the sun shines he becomes just Grey and black all over. Thus the moniker "the dark elve"
Here are the other Eldritch Au drawings

Unpopular Silmarillion Opinions
I've been a big fan of the Silmarillion for a few years now, but I've never posted much about it here, so here's my opinions:
I am a Feanorian, deep in my soul. I love them all, very much.
Feanor was a good father and a decent person before the Silmarils. Fight me.
Related: Feanor wasn't evil. He was traumatized and angry due to the violent murder of his father in a land where that wasn't supposed to happen. And he had Morgoth whispering in his ear (metaphorically) before that.
Actually I don't think any of the Elves, Men or Dwarves were evil. Selfish, jealous, petty, angry and maybe cruel? Yes. Evil? No.
Selfish brings me to what is likely to be the most unpopular of my opinions: I do not like Elwing. Or Earendil, either. He sails off to look for his parents, because apparently that's more important than parenting his two small children and helping his wife rule. She chooses a shiny rock over her children and her people, then abandons her children to mass murderers.
Elwing was bloody lucky that said mass murderers have big soft spots for children.
Speaking of, I wholeheartedly believe that every Feanorian is a) very fond of children, b) very good with children and c) two seconds away from adopting all children in their vicinity at all times. Yes, even Celegorm, Curufin and Caranthir.
I cannot explain this in the slightest, but I've developed a fondness for Eol. I have no clue. I read a few fics that made him the son of Thingol, who got shoved aside for Luthien, and considering I strongly dislike both of them, I think that led to my fondness for Eol.
I do not think his relationship with Aredhel was abusive. At least not in a one-sided way. I think it was mutually toxic. The only victim there was poor Maeglin.
i get it was a traumatic situation, and Maeglin didn't exactly help matters, but it feels like the Gondolin folks were very quick to jump to 'Maeglin deliberately and intentionally betrayed us!' when, you know, both Sauron and Morgoth are known manipulators and torturers. Come on.
Let's jump back to Thingol. My issues with him are that a) he sat on his arse and did nothing to actually help in the fight against Morgoth and b) he demanded Beren steal a Silmaril for him, when neither of them had any right to it. No, Bad Thingol, we don't get prospective son-in-laws to steal other people's jewels from the person who stole them. Naughty.
Also, the Dwarf mess. No idea who was actually responsible for that- it's intentionally vague in the book, isn't it?- but would not be surprised in the slightest to discover it was Thingol the Jackass' fault.
Elrond needs all of the hugs. All of them. Now.
i saw one of @mellon-soup's fantastic poses and thought it was so curufin and eol so... here they are <33
Eöl, son of Thingol
I love Maia Eöl but Thingol and Melian´s son Eöl is growing on me...
