Part 1
Masterlist
âââ
Since you kissed Bullseye, well Tony- no Dex, heâs been coming by your place more often.
And yes, he did buy you a pint of strawberry ice cream to replace the one that melted while you were too busy getting to learn each otherâs bodies.
He comes by to get his wounds treated, but also to hang out or fuck. Heâs great in bed. Crazy and rough, but great. He mostly gets in using the window when he comes to see you. Even if heâs not in the Bullseye suit, he prefers the fire escape to the inside stairs. You donât react anymore when you hear the window slide open in your living room. Youâre used to it by now.
You go out to grab lunch together sometimes. Itâs one of the only occasions when heâll come knocking on your door. That and to go for runs by the East River. He adapts to your work schedule to see you during the day. If he comes by in the evenings or at night, he comes by when he pleases.
You like to watch movies so heâs started joining you a few months back. You also have a tv series you watch only when youâre together. Youâd binge-watch a few episodes without him sometimes, but youâre scared heâll find out when you donât react as youâre watching it again with him.
Sometimes he shows up with takeout for dinner, completely disregarding if you had plans already. Sometimes you make plans in advance to see each other, but most of the time, he shows up with no heads up and you go along with it. You make plans on the spot, or you donât and just chill in your apartment.
You never went to his apartment. Even if he lives just a floor below, he doesnât want you to come down. Maybe itâs for the best you think, cause you know the type of things he does. Maybe he doesnât want to risk being attacked at home while youâre there. Anyways, you prefer to be in your home. You like being home, in your things, and you like Dexâs company. He makes every day a little better when he comes by.
You like talking about songs youâve discovered recently, or making him taste one of the recipes you tried during the day. Occasionally, heâll massage your neck and back. He always finds the knots in your muscles and makes you feel better. It always turns into sex, but you canât complain.
So yeah, Dex comes by way more often now.
But he never stays the night. Ever. That seems to be his limit. Itâs not like youâre a couple, youâve never had that conversation. You see it more as casual dating than a relationship. You like his company. You like him. You donât think he sees you as his girlfriend, but you donât think heâs seeing anyone else. Thereâs no way to know for sure, but between the time he spends with you and his Bullseye adventures there isnât that much time left to invest in another person.
Conclusion: Youâre exclusive.
You donât mind it, but you wouldnât mind putting a label on the relationship either. Itâs not like youâre interested in getting to know anyone else anyway, so making this relationship official wouldnât do any harm. You actually want to take that next step.
If you were seeing anyone else, youâd just ask to define the relationship, but Dex isnât just anyone. Heâs got a different approach to doing things, a different approach to life. Everything needs to be a particular way- his way. Youâve learned that over the months. You truly donât mind, itâs just one of those quirks that make you love-no, like him more.
Dex isnât seeing anyone else. How could he? Youâre the only thing he thinks about. Ever since choosing you to take care of his back wounds, he hasnât stopped thinking, dreaming, and fantasizing about you. Dex has never had this type of relationship. A relationship where two people care for one another. He never thought heâd have one, after all heâs fucked up. He knows it, heâs accepted it. But so have you. You accepted him. Totally. And Dex doesnât want to risk that.
He doesnât want to risk scaring you by talking about his past, his stories, his missions and his dark thoughts. He loves your presence too much. So when you hang out, heâs always asking about you. How your day went, how youâre doing. If thereâs something youâd like to try or do together. When you return the questions, he either shuts them down, changes the subject or gives you a classic âIâm goodâ or ânothing muchâ. He canât risk what you have, whatever it is that you two have. It means too much for him. You mean too much to him.
Thatâs why heâs decided not to spend the night. Ever. He had marked that as his limit after that first night you spent together. That first night, you had fallen asleep first and he didnât know if he should stay or go, so he left in the middle of the night. And thatâs where he drew the line, setting his limit at sleeping over. And a limit is good, it dictates what he can and canât do to keep what you built over the months together safe.
Watch a movie at your place? Can do.
Confess his darkest fantasies? Canât do.
Buy you a little something- like a single flower, a pastry, or an album that reminds him of you- from time to time to show his affection? Can do!
Tell you he killed his baseball coach, not by accident, when he was younger? No.
Offer to wash your back in the shower and wash your hair? Yes.
Spending the night? Definitely canât do.
To anyone else, those rules wouldnât make any sense. But to Dex, itâs those limits that guide him through life with you.
For Dex, sleeping over would mean too much. If he starts spending the night, what will he do next? Follow you to work to make sure nobody attacks you? Heâs thought of it many times but he always refrains from doing it. If he starts sleeping over, heâd probably start to slip up and express his emotions and what he feels -truly feels- inside. Would he tell you that he wants to kill every guy who looks at you a second too long when you go on a run? Would he tell you he almost killed the last waiter you had at the diner cause he openly flirted with you? Would he tell you he absolutely would kill your boss if you only implied youâd like him to. Would he tell you heâd love to keep you only to himself, not letting you see anyone else but him (not that you see many other people anyway)? What if he slips up and tells you he thinks this is love, but that heâs unsure cause heâs never felt it or experienced it before? What is he says or does something that makes you think heâs pathetic, nothing more than a loser? Or worse, what if he says or does something that scares you? He couldnât live with that. Seeing you fear him would destroy him, itâd be the end of Dex. He canât risk that.
He thinks if he opens that door, if he opens that can of worms, he wonât be able to stop himself. If he steps over the line, we will lose himself in the relationship.
He already is, but still, heâs fixed his limit and heâs respecting it. For now.
The thought of sleeping over has been on his mind for a while now. What would it feel like to cuddle with you all night, sleep next to you and wake up with you in his arms? He wonders. He wonders so much that heâs decided to try it. Just once. He decided that if it feels wrong, heâll just go back to his limit and say it was a mistake. Of course it wonât feel wrong, nothing ever feels wrong with you. But still, Dex reassures himself by thinking heâs only bending that rule once. Just to try it. Once.
Dex came over last night, you watched a movie and you slept together. Thatâs not unusual.
You wake up in bed, a hand on your abdomen. A strong arm wrapped around you. Thatâs unusual.
You try to lift the arm from your body to get up.
âDonât go.â His voice is hoarse, he clearly just woke up.
You whisper, âI need to go to the bathroom.â
He lifts his arm, âBe quick then.â
You get up and enter the bathroom. You register whatâs happening. Dex is in your bed. Dex slept over. He never does. You donât understand why heâs still here. Not that you mind, itâs just not what youâre used to. And you donât want to get used to it, cause this is probably a one-time thing. A mistake. He probably just fell asleep as he was planning on leaving.
You donât want to get used to it cause you know youâll be sad if this is just a one-time thing, cause you like him. A lot. And you like having him in your bed. You remember cuddling last night, but donât remember saying good night or bye to him. You fell asleep, assuming heâd leave like always, getting out using your living room window.
He clearly didnât, cause heâs in your bed. Right now. You didnât imagine it, cause when you get out of the bathroom, heâs there, lying face down on your bed. Itâs 5:00 a.m. Yeah, youâre going back to sleep.
Youâre not even fully lying down that his hand is on you.
âCome hereâ, he pulls you by the waist until your back is flush against his chest.
Itâs 5, maybe heâll leave before you wake up again. Does he sometimes stay but leave before you wake up? It would be the type of thing Dex does. It wouldnât be out of character. Youâre pretty sure he once came over during the night to watch you sleep. He didnât touch you or anything, but you felt his presence. You never said anything, but youâre 99% sure he did.
You wake up again, this time at 8:00, and that strong arm is still around you, holding you close. He really spent the night. Itâs not an accident.
He acts as if this isnât the first time youâre waking up together in your bed. In any bed for that matter.
He starts kissing your neck. You canât shake the thought of him sleeping over. This never happens. Why did he spend the night? Why did he suddenly decide he should? After months of drifting to sleep next to him only to wake up to an empty bed, why start sleeping over now?
You want to enjoy the kisses heâs planting on your shoulder now, but you want answers. You canât think of anything else. You turn to face him, he immediately starts kissing your collarbone.
âYou never stay the nightâ, the statement escapes your lips before you can think of a better way to approach this conversation.
He shoots his head up, his eyes meeting your septic ones. You look confused. His defences go up immediately, âYeah- I know.â You donât say anything. âShould I leave?â
You sit up in the bed. âNo, Iâm just stating a fact. You never stay the night. Weâve been seeing each other- or whatever you want to call what weâve been doing for months- and you never sleep over.â
He doesnât speak, but he sits up too, clearly giving you his undivided attention.
âI just want to know if I should expect this again or if this was a one-time thingâ
He raises an eyebrow, âDo you want this to be a one-time thing?â
You mimic his facial expression, âDo you?â
Youâre challenging him. Youâre always the one giving your opinion first. Itâs time he speaks his mind, instead of just agreeing with whatever you say. You donât mind when itâs to choose a movie, a restaurant or to decide the time you go on a run, but now itâs important to you that he shares how he feels.
Dex realizes this will make or break what you have. Either heâll tell you and youâll jump in his arms and kiss him, or heâll tell you and youâll ask him to leave and heâll oblige- heartbroken.
Since becoming Bullseye, Dex hasnât been scared, not even for a second. He doesnât feel fear when he goes out to fight, he doesnât fear the unknown or the consequences of his actions. But right now, in this exact instant, sitting in front of you, looking into your beautiful eyes, heâs terrified. For a second, he remembers what he felt when Dr. Mercer told him she was gonna die. He remembers thinking he was gonna be all alone once she passed. And he was, until he found you. So yes, heâs petrified heâll lose you, but he knows this is the time to tell you how he feels. Itâs clear you want honesty from him in this moment.
So he takes the leap, âI donât.â
When you donât scream at him to leave, he continues. He figures he might as well say it all.
âI want to wake up next to you. I want to fall asleep next to you. I want to hold you in my arms as you tell me about your day. I want to make breakfast for you. Iâll make your bed before we leave for the day, Iâll fill up your water bottle, making sure you have everything. I want to make sure your work laptop is plugged in and that all the locks are secured before joining you in bed for the night. I want to care for you, like you do for meâ
He releases a breath he didnât know he was holding in. He looks at you and his shoulders tense up again. He just told you his peace of mind, now itâs time to hear what you have to say.
This is it- your response will change everything forever. Dex hopes itâll change for the best. That heâll get even more of you. That you want him as much as he wants you, even if he doesnât think thatâs possible. He thinks itâs not humanly possible to want someone as much as he wants you. At this point, itâs not even a want, itâs a need. He needs you. He needs you to survive, to feel alive.
âI want the same thing, Dex. I want you to tell me how you feel. I want you to tell me about your missions- your good deeds, as you call them. I want to know what goes on in your head, what youâre thinking about. I care for you Dex, I do, but I need more. I need you to let me in.â
You need more? He can give you that. You need him to let you in? He wants to, he really wants to, but heâs scared.
He confesses, âI want to let you in, but what if you donât like what you see? What if you donât like me anymore once you see the real me?â
âDex, Iâve got a pretty good idea of what you do. You did threaten me the first night you came in, breaking into my apartment. I know youâve done some things, some awful things, but I donât care what you do. I care about who you are. About how you make me feel.â
He remembers that first night he broke into your apartment. You didnât look scared of him, so why would you be now? Why would you be scared after months of being with him everyday? If you werenât scared that first time, youâll probably never be. Not now that you know him.
As soon as Dex realizes you feel the same way as him, his fear turns into cockiness. Heâs still Dex, but with the confidence he possesses when he dresses up as Bullseye. He grins, âAnd how do I make you feel?â
âYou make me feelâŚâ Two can play at that game. âGood.â You say it as if you said: âaverageâ.
Good? Just good?
He raises an eyebrow, âThatâs all I get?â He sounds disappointed.
You smile, âOkay you got me, you make me feel alive, seen and loved. I feel great when youâre around!â
Loved? Yeah he loves you but heâs never told you. Should he tell you? No, not now. One thing at a time. This is already a big step, no need to add anything.
âYeah, thatâs better. Youâre lucky I love you, cause that first answer almost made me leave.â
Well shit, he just did. Not that he realizes. He does, but too late. He realizes what heâs saying as the words leave his mouth. He hopes you donât catch on. He hopes the words fly straight over your head.
But you stop moving for a second and itâs a dead giveaway. You registered what he just said.
You look at him, eyes wide. Your surprise turns into a smile quickly when you realize he didnât mean to say it. Itâs obvious on his face that he let it slip by accident.
You steal a kiss, planting your lips on his. You rest both your hands on his cheeks.
âI love you too, Dexâ
He relaxes and kisses you again.
You say it again, you want to make sure he hears you. âI love you.â
He smiles, âI love you too.â
He grabs your waist, pulling you over him until you straddle him. You rest your hands on his shoulders.
âYouâre mine.â He kisses your neck. âAnd Iâm yoursâ. You moan as he sucks on the sweet spot of your neck.
He pulls back to look in your eyes, âSay it back,â his voice is low and demanding.
You smile at his possessiveness. âIâm yours Dex. And youâre mine. Forever.â
That makes his eyes sparkle. You kiss him once before pulling back to tease him.
You grin, âHow about breakfast? You said youâd make me breakfast.â
You see his eyes go dark, âBreakfast can wait. I want to officially make you mine.â
The way he says it sends a shiver down your spine. You love it when he takes control.
He looks at you, as if asking confirmation that youâre okay with it. You are sure that if you tell him youâd prefer breakfast to sex, heâd jump out of bed in a heartbeat to get in the kitchen.
âYeah, breakfast can wait.â
And thatâs all he needs to go absolutely crazy in the sheets.
Did you imagine a vigilante breaking into your home would turn into the relationship youâve always dreamed of? No. And is it truly the relationship youâve always dreamed youâd have? Also no. But you wouldnât change this for anything in the world. You donât need anything else, Dex is your world. Just like youâre his entire world- no- his entire universe. Youâre everything to him and now he gets to be everything to you.
