Passo dello Stelvio Fixed Gear 47/17
Passo dello Stelvio was for us a dream , not only for a personal idea of performance, we mean we climb for ourselves, but for the majesty and the beauty of that rocks.
We started from Prato allo Stelvio with our fixed gear 47/17 track bikes, one Cinelli Mash and two Cinelli Vigorelli, the road is always uphill and even if at the beginning ’till Trafoi is really easy , we decided to climb really slow and quite ’cause we know that the Giant was waiting for us.
Before seeing him, there is a long climb in a huge and dark forest ( we love these kind of places!) where the hairpins start up (47 hairpins), and the Garmin told us that sometimes the road ,for small parts, rises at 16%.
The forest finish, the Monster wakes up, and you discover the amazing dream that ’til that day was only a picture in your desktop.
In that precise moment we thought that nothing is like the Nature, don’t forget is a Pagan God and you have to respect it.
One, two , three hairpins, no time to breath and relax your legs, only going uphill, the air becomes colder and… it’s only you and the Giant, sweat, silence, respect, pain.
At the top we stop only for a sandwich , handmade!, and in 20 minutes we started going downhill brakeless.
Here is the surprise! Even if one of us had to change, at the 32 hairpin, the rear tire for too much skids, the downhill wasn’t so difficult as we thought, and was fun!
The Giant has been tamed, we know we were ready for it but lucky too.
You have to be prepared but, respect the uphill and a good attitude are really important.
It was an achievement of perfection for our primordial souls.
