I had one day to figure out something else to add to my print order in order to get free shipping on a stamp rally card, which means I had to look through recent illustrations for something to print.

I landed on this piece that I drew during plein airpril - but the question was, do I add something on the back?

This poem was one I'd penned at the time I made the illustration; and there was meant to be a separate illustration for the back. The front image, would be paired with part one; the back image, for part two.

But I never ended up making the back image.

To me... the way the back is presented now, it brings up a feeling that's harder to describe. Perhaps it's because autumn's golden hour, itself, is a good analogy for the anticipation of waiting, for that anticipated person.

To anyone that will come across this poem, naturally in the wild, I wonder what they'll make of it. Along with the boyhood illustration from last time, I've half a mind to eventually compile a poetry-art zine.

I didn’t live the boyhood depicted here.

While drawing this image, listening to a playlist called honey jasmine tea, I kept getting choked up; a feeling wouldn’t stop welling up inside me.

It was nostalgia for what never was.

Though I didn’t live the boyhood depicted here, some version of my character has. Which makes me happy, and brings me some solace - that some part of me does hold that bygone, sweltering summer.

The funny thing behind my Sun Quan warring states robes illustration is there is an insane lack of good resources on western internet for quju robes and the Jade waist ornaments, so I had to take a side quest to xhs and spend a while gathering good resources! If anyone needs to draw historically accurate hanfu without it being water down to cdrama hanfu I highly recommend looking at the historical recreations on xhs…
