What I have observed

So rant incoming.

I loved the movie. And I read the book after. I know, not ideal reader behaviour.

But I enjoyed both. Really.

What I found fascinating was the fact there was no romance. And the people didn't complain about it.

Don't get me wrong I love romance as a genre and as various book tropes.

Also this is a sci-fi book but it's not like sci fi books do not contain romance. It is also not usual for a piece of media to actually trend on social media without any element of romance

But the fact that a movie adaptation of a book containing almost no romance is so popular in an age where every other popular book, show, movie and music is about romance just makes me happy in a weird way and just appreciate both the book and movie

Sometimes maybe there are other things in books to focus on as well

Like as much as the romance is good enough in The Cruel Prince, I liked the book becuase of the power struggle and political intrigue

Maybe I'll rant about that some other time, how some genres of books are losing the plot in favour of romantic tropes
