This woodblock print by the Shin-hanga (New Print) virtuoso Shiro Kasamatsu (1898–1991), is titled "Shinshu Shirahone Onsen" (Shirahone Hot Spring in Shinshū)., 1935, Japan. The artwork captures the historic, hidden mountain onsen (hot spring) of Shirahone, nestled deep in the Japanese Alps of Nagano Prefecture (historically Shinshū). Famed for its opaque, milky-white thermal waters rich in calcium and magnesium, the spring is presented here as an idyllic, secret sanctuary.

“When this chair was shown at the International Exhibition in Paris in 1900, Norway was still ruled by Sweden, and was not to become an independent country for another five years.

In Norway, the enthusiasm for vernacular design was powerfully linked to the struggle for independence. In 1867 and 1880 archaeologists had excavated important Viking ships […] On this chair, designer Lars Kinsarvik combined motifs that he would have seen in ancient Nordic art and architecture, with the colourful decoration that was typical of more modern Norwegian peasant furnishings.”

Weapons striking a rust monster are affected as if touched by the creature's antennae, immediately rusting or corroding and falling to pieces (Roger Raupp, from Best of The Dragon, TSR, 1980). This accompanied the short story "Excerpt from an Interview with a Rust Monster" by Michael McCrery, told from the perspective of an NPC in the author's campaign who had been polymorphed into rust monster form, orginally published in Dragon 14, May 1978
