With the engine out I took the opportunity to replace the clutch with the lightly used one from my wagon and the shifter assembly with a gc8 short shifter and the shifter bushings with polyurethane bushes
Having now pulled the engine and stripped it down to the block I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the components, a testament to good maintenance.
After the better part of a days wrenching the engine was free and onto a stand, everything came apart fairly nicely and nothing was completely worn out which was surprising for a car of it’s age
Unfortunately, Subaru’s being Subaru’s it started to push coolant out, so it was time to pull the engine out and give it a refresh or replace it entirely
After getting the car back on the road I gave it a good clean and was able to enjoy it for a couple of months and take it on a couple of adventures
A little video of the exhaust on my car (sorry about the wobbles, the garage door moved more than I thought.
When I got my car back it was also missing all the exhaust behind the catalytic converter, so I decided to upgrade to a variable muffler
The failed starter motor and damage from the thief stealing the car causing the high beams to always be on.
Unfortunately my car was stolen when my mother borrowed it, fortunately I got it back after 2 weeks due to the starter motor failing, although in much worse condition.
I started to make a custom grill as finding aero for something this old locally can be quite difficult
I ended up buying a second one, a wagon this time, unfortunately this one was not long lived as it had over 340,000km when I bought it.
After finding out the rear window and the upper part of the boot gutter was leaking I went through the process of resealing the window and replacing the rotted out piece of gutter with a fresh piece of sheet metal.
I managed to find myself a genuine Momo wheel out of a Legacy RS Turbo to replace the original wheel that was falling apart, I was fortunate enough to find one with a cruise control boss kit allowing me to retain a really nice creature comfort
Got myself a set of genuine BBS wheels off a Liberty B4, I initially thought the 17″s looked a bit big but with some bigger brakes and some lowering I think it will look quite a bit better
The first set of wheels I put on from an Impreza, it helped the looks of the car but definitely wasn’t the last pair on the car
Back when I first got the car in 2014, It’s come a fair way since then
