I consider myself to be an honest, mature and friendly individual and I enjoy new experiences. I'm currently doing my HND year 2 in photography to help me pursue my dream job in the field. Work Experience- I’ve had the privilege to work with big names such as Nisbet Wylie and the Herald Newspaper fashion magazine. I got to assist on a number of shoots with big names such as M&Co fashion, Lat 56, PRM Models, The Scottish Ballet and Alexander McQueen. My duties includes assisting the photographer both on set and location, and helping the models and clients throughout the day. This was an insight into how the photography industry works and only added fuel to my ambition to become a professional photographer.

Work History-

Black Bull and Puccinis- 3rd Feburary 2015- January 2016

I have worked in the Black Bull and Puccinis a restaurant and bar. My duties include mainly working behind the bar serving drinks and taking food orders, However have also worked serving the food. I have been trained in a wide range of areas from cocktail training to proper etiquette. Working behind a bar has taught me how to work fast but correctly and how to bond with the public and provide an excellent service.

Glenskirlie House and Castle-

The Glenskirlie is a four star hotel and restaurant mainly used for weddings. My role mainly included working behind the bar and helping to set up the function for the wedding however i also served the food at the wedding and assisted customers with any problems. this job taught me how to work at a high and professional standard and work as part of a large team. i learned new people skills i feel this has improved my ability to fit into any work environment.

Milano Steak House-

My roles included working behind the bar and serving drinks to customers on the floor. this was a fast paced job as the restaurant was always busy so it really replied on us working well as a team behind the bar to create a smppnh service for the customer. i feel this job really helped with my confidence and improved my skills working with customers and making sure their time was as good as they expected.

IDENTIFY AN ELEMENT OF THE GUEST SPEAKERS TALK THAT RESONATED WITH YOU IN SOME WAY?

With him being a student from the same area as me its a confidence boost to think its possible to make it where I'm from, it shows its possible with hard work. he said also keep your prices the same when charging clients because if you make it different for certain people word will spread and won't look good could also affect the business you get.

WHAT QUESTION WILL/DID YOU ASK THE VISITOR?-

How did you manage to become the head photographer at Trespass? Was it long after you left college before you started to get proper business or did it happen right away?

HOW DO YOU THINK THIS WILL IMPACT YOUR OWN PRACTICE AS A PHOTOGRAPHER?-

I think its all about getting out there yeah it can be scary and daunting at the thought of rejection etc in the photography world but if you still at it the rewards could be amazing!

NOTES-

= Get insurance to protect yourself as a photographer.

= make sure your portfolio is suited to the clients you want to reach.

= always carry business cards on you because you really don't know who you will bump into.

End of Year Exhibition review

HND City Of Glasgow College Photography show.

CLASS- HND 2A

NAME OF EXHIBITION- HND 2 Photography

LOCATION- Theatre Royal Glasgow

HOW DOES THE FLYER/POSTER ADVERTISE THE EXHIBITION?-

Very well actually, we all submitted our best work as students and done a class anonymous vote on the cover for the exhibition. it was a portrait with nice framing and space for text so the poster got the point across very well.

WHAT IS THE SUITABILITY OF THE GALLERY SPACE? HOW IS THE EXHIBITION LAID OUT?-

The space was perfect, very large and open it made the images look better they where not all crammed into a tiny room, there was 2 floors of students work place all around the side of the rooms.

HOW HAS THE WORK BEEN MOUNTED? IS THIS APPROPRIATE FOR THE WORK?-

All the photographs where in the same black frames provided by Deadly Digital, the frames were then placed on white boards of wood, the spacing between images was great making the exhibition look very neat and professional.

WHO MADE THE WORK?-

Myself and other HND 2 photography students.

WHO DID THEY MADE IT FOR, WHO WAS THE AUDIENCE?-

We had made the work throughout the year weather that be photography college briefs, work or just personal snaps we had taken and liked. The audience was Family and Friends however the exhibition was also open to the public.

HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL?-

Seeing your own work framed and hanging up with people looking at it makes you feel amazing i must say. To see everyones work and to know how hard we had all worked and that we could share that experience with our loved ones on the night was amazing.

IF THE WORK HAS A TITLE DOES IT MAKE YOU THINK ABOUT THE IMAGE/S DIFFERENTLY?-

NO TITLE!

HOW WOULD I DESCRIBE IT TO SOMEONE LATER?-

AMAZINGGGGGG, literally amazed at the variety of work and talent on show worth checking it out.

DOES THE PHOTOGRAPH MAKE YOU WANT TO ASK QUESTIONS, WHAT ARE THESE QUESTIONS?-

Yeah it did you wanted to ask the other students things about their work, things like where was this taken etc.

IS THE PHOTOGRAPH VALUABLE? HOW DO YOU KNOW?-

Yeah lots of effort went into making these photographs, are they as valuable as work in the tate modern gallery? No, but to us personally they are worth a lot.

IS THE WORK FOR SALE AND WHO MIGHT BUY IT?-

Yes you could buy the work, it was open to friends, family and the public to buy our images.

WHAT INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE ABOUT THE ARTIST/S?-

We all had name tags beside our images so you could tell who took it. most of the students where about to talk about their work if you wanted to ask questions etc.

WHO ORGANISED THE EXHIBITION AND WHO SELECTED THE WORK?-

We, the students all organised it with the help of the lectures again we selected our final images for the exhibition but we could ask for advice for what to display off the lectures also.

Hyper Reality

For my image i wanted to blend a portrait i had taken in college with a football in a football park, both of the original images are below.

first of all i started with my background image.

i then made it black and white as my portrait was black and white so it would be easier to blend.

i the dragged the portrait over the image, pressing command-t i was able to hold shift and resize the image to fit the ball to make it easier i lowered the opacity so i could place the eyes in the correct position i wanted. once i had my image in place i dragged it behind the background image and added a layer mask, using the brush tool and selecting black i was able to brush the face back into the ball. i made sure my brush was feathered so it blended easier. once i had done that i just dodged and burned the ball as a whole to really try and blend the final image. Below if my final image its not perfect however I'm going to practice making these in the future.

THE PROCESS OF UPLOADING STOCK IMAGES ONLINE.

This is me signing up to Alamy.

i registered as a contributor and was ready to start uploading JPEG images.

i had to select 3 images for my first submission this would then get quality control checked before i can start posting images.

i chose 3 images from my London trip as i feel they would make good stock photos.

after i submitted them i had to wait 0-48 hours before i would get an email telling me if they had been approved.

unfortunately 1 one my images didn't make the cut because of dirt or dust being detected on the image.

so i decided to upload 3 fresh images and hoped these would pass this time around.

Good news my images passed the quality control this time i am able to start uploading images and get them on sale.

so you have to fill in the mandatory information before you can get them on sale i gave the image a caption and added hashtags that relaited to the image and selected star hashtags these are the ones that most relate to the images. unit the bar at the top indicated i was able to put them up for sale.

now my test images worked i selected 10 images i wanted to upload to alamy.

just have to wait 24hours for it to be accepted then i can add a caption hashtags and post them hopefully start making money.

great news my final 10 images all passed quality control.

now to add hashtags and captions to make them easier to locate and hopefully be purchased.

Colour Research

DOES COLOUR INFLUENCE YOUR MOOD? DO THEY CHANGE THE WAY YOU FEEL ABOUT SOMETHING?-

Of course they do colour played an important role in our emotions why is a stop sign red? well in nature red often shows a sign of danger, pastel colours are light and summery and this helps create an atmosphere what will alter the way you see things thus changing your mood.

GIVE EXAMPLES OF CERTAIN COLOURS AND HOW THEY ARE PERCEIVED TO EFFECT MOOD?-

RED-

the colour red is often associated with love and romance, just head into shops on valentines day and its a sea of red hearts, cards and flowers. its funny how a colour thats used for this is also used for stop signs, some danger sign, its the colour of blood and in the case of some animals many animals and plants red is a warning colour so red can really be taken in both ways.

YELLOW-

like red, yellow has two sides to it its often associated with happiness, calmness and peace, its a colour that you associate with summer and warmth for example you wouldn't really wear a bright yellow denim jacket on a winters day its falls more into the summer colour pallet. on the other hand yellow is also a sign of danger, yellow police tape at a crime scene, yellow warning signs and venomous and hazardous things such as dart frogs and signs for toxic chemicals.

WHITE-

white can be seen in both ways too on one hand it clean, peaceful, almost biblical like. when you get married it tends to be in a white wedding dress, white doves may be used at ending too, clean white modern houses are common in interior design now and its simple lots of people aren't into bold colours so white is a safe option. on the other hand it also makes you feel cold, snow is white some of the coldest places on earth are completely white, its also boring and if too much white is used it can be challenging for our minds to process the space as a whole.

WHAT DO THEORISTS SAY ABOUT COLOUR?-

“Light and darkness, brightness and obscurity, or if a more general expression is preferred, light and its absence, are necessary to the production of color… Color itself is a degree of darkness.” - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

WHAT CAN YOU USE IN PHOTOSHOP TO CHANGE THE COLOUR OF AN IMAGE, GLOBALLY AND LOCALLY?-

it depends really on the effect you are after you can select a certain area in the image or adjust the image as a whole, you can use saturation, hue, colour balance and more to alter an image on photoshop.

TAKE ONE OF YOUR IMAGES AND TRY PROCESSING IT IN 3 DIFFERENT WAYS IN RELATION TO COLOUR. DO THE IMAGES FEEL DIFFERENT? IF SO IN WHAT WAY?-

this is my original image.

by altering the “Colour Balance” i was able to give it a completely different feel the image was very cold and had lots of blue tones in it by adding yellow, red and magenta in the highlights i was able to make the image feel warm could even look like it had been taken at a different time of day.

for my next attempt i played with brightness and contrast again this changed the feel of the photo completely its more peaceful, the rays of light appear softer and the snow looks cleaner in this edit.

for my last edit i worked with exposure offset and gamma correction, this made the photo look very dark and bold, its not as inviting as the lighter one before the rays of light appear more harshly in this image.

Black and White Conversion

this is my original image

i added a layer mask and then converted the image to black and white as seen above.

i then played around with the colour properties until i was happy with the colour properties until i was happy with the tones in the image.

finally i added curves just to really make the final image bold and contrasty.

this is my final image i actually prefer it to the original. this process is soooo simple but can really change the look of a photo.

Skin Retouching

Firstly i opened the image in photoshop and converted it to black and white as i felt this complimented the shadows in the original image.

next i zoomed in on the image this makes it easier to remove any spots on the image.

Using the patch tool i was able to remove most of the spots i didn't want to completely remove everything as i feel this would look too unnatural i just wanted to tidy the image up. i zoomed in even more to really get into those small areas for a tidier result.

finally i added curves just to add more contrast in the image I'm happy with the overall result i feel the patch tool worked very well there is other tools you can use such as the spot healing and clone tool.

it gave me a sense of his style of work and what he is about.

WORK BEEN MOUNTED? IS THIS APPROPIATE FOR THE WORK?-

he used simple mounting this worked well as it didn't take away from his work allowed that to really pop out.

WHO MADE THE WORK?-

these images where not taken by Marcelo himself he took these images that where taken by other photographers from events in history all these images are black and white he has added colour by drawing on the images and added text to get messages across to the viewer.

WHO DID THEY MAKE IT FOR, WHO IS THE AUDIENCE?

really anyone can be drawn to these images the style isn't something id say i was into myself but after hearing him talk and seeing his work for my self i actually really like it. he started out making the first one for himself finding people from his school class and i liked how this started what has become his signature style.

HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL?-

i really like the idea behind it it would have been better i personally feel if he had taken the images i feel it would have been more personal however this can't take away from the fact he is still creating art that is enjoyable to look at.

IF THE WORK HAS A TITLE DOES IT MAKE YOU THINK ABOUT THE IMAGES DIFFERENTLY?-

no the images are named after the places where the photos where taken so it describes the photos as they actually are.

HOW WOULD I DESCRIBE IT TO SOMEONE LATER?-

i would say that it was more of an art exhibition rather than a photography.

DOES THE PHOTOGRAPH MAKE YOU WANT TO ASK QUESTIONS, WHAT ARE THESE QUESTIONS?-

I guess because its about political protests etc in history you want to find out a bit more about the event itself i think i didn't know about some if these events and it made me want to research more into them.

IS THE PHOTOGRAPH VALUABLE? HOW DO YOU KNOW?-

valuable as in money i can't be too sure there was so signs for a price, id imagine because of his name they would cost a fare bit id say its more valuable in terms of showing events in history that may be forgotten as the years go on.

these bad examples i have chosen due to aspects such as font, colour and the amount that actually happening on the card you can't make it too cluttered as it takes away from what it is you actually want to get across ill take inspiration from the good ones when making mine.

i selected the paper type, thickness and the finish of my card

i wanted to keep my card simple and classy i used a black matte finish with one of my photos from London on the front. on the back i added my details such as my website, email and contact number again its plain but classy exactly how i wanted it to look.

DJ CHLOBOCOP at ST. LUKES Glasgow.

i managed to get access to photography a small dj gig in Glasgow. i got in touch with Chloe the dj and explained that i was doing a college project and was wondering if i could take photos at any of her upcoming gigs. i was able to get access after she gave me the all clear after talking to the staff at St. Lukes. i scouted the location the day before and found that the lighting was very poor as its an old church thats been restored to host events now. i decided to shoot using a 35mm lens and a flash gun. this gave the “gig” look i was wanting i felt that i had to edit the images a bit more than i usually do but i liked the feel of the final images it works well for what its meant to be. i had to be careful during my shoot and watch out for peoples safety and my own but the shoot went very smoothly so i was happy with the outcome. i tried to capture all aspects of the gig and not just focus on the dj. i was aloud access to all areas this helped me get more creative with my shots. below are some of the images from the night.
