College spaces in action! Great first day!
C O L L E G E S P A C E S By Kevin Mora-Rosenkranz
The task for this brief was to photograph the spaces within college, I decided to capture an unusual side to it. By looking at this pictures, you wouldn’t be able to tell if it’s a college or not, but that’s what I like about it, a not so obvious approach. One of the things that appeals to me the most about the structure of this college, is the patterns, it has a very minimalistic feeling that gives us a glimpse into the future, this was my main focus, being able to reflect that mood into my work, by capturing those strong, repetitive and clean lines, to enhance the infrastructural beauty the college has to offer.
COLLEGE SPACES BREIF
For this project the main aim was to go and explore the college fo the use of promotional press,
Think about LIGHT, DESIGN, DETAIL and ARCHITECTURE
With 3 hours, we had no time to research this shoot, EDIT, OPTIMIZE and SUBMIT my final 3 images.
Having this in mind, the management is key, to shoot, edit and submit 3 final images with no research before hand.
I personally feel that this shoot was rather successful for me and I personally do like my images, I feel like they showcase the new college building ff very well in terms of angles and lighting.
College Spaces (Re-shoot)
I didn’t save the original file of my college spaces so I had to re shoot. This tuned out to be a better exercise than the first as I spent more time looking at hidden details around the college.
I like the shapes, shadows and the warm light in this image. I took this outside at one of the many seating areas around the building. This angle of the benches is one which most people tend not to look at them from which makes the image more interesting in my opinion.
I took a shallow depth of field shot of some clay sculptures which were lined on a shelf on the 10th floor. Unless you study you there not many people will know they are there. I liked the texture and the warm tone of this subject matter.
On the tenth floor I also discovered these brick moulds made from ceramic. The light reflected off them reminded me of a water reflection, creating interesting detail.

college spaces brief
College Spaces
Our first brief involved the full year group to be split into 2 groups, 1 half of the group were given the brief to look at and we were to focus on the details of this brief and then find someone from the other half of the class and give them the info so that they could follow out the task also. The main points I took from the brief were
- 3 images needed for the college marketing team
- explore the college and grounds paying attention to detail, design and architecture
- don’t be obvious
- present images on A3 proof print which was to be on the studio wall 1 hour before the end of session
- print ready files to be uploaded to Moodle and update blog with task
Being a new student to this college, this was a great chance for me to explore my new surroundings and get to know the building. What an amazing space! I have included my final 3 images, I might explore this brief again later on after getting to know my way round a little more.
College Spaces
Exploring the College
This brief is short and sweet, in one day find interesting spaces and photograph them, optimise the images and present them on the studio wall that day.
This was a fun project, pushing us to work quickly and making the best use of the time available.
With my 1st image I tried to show how chaotic and busy the college can be, the multitude of people that use the building but highlighting the individual, fining space of their own in the mayhem.
The other 2 images are views from the college, one looking towards the old colleges and Glasgow beyond, a reminder of the history the college has with the city.
The last image is from the top floor looking down towards the new park area and the steps and side entrance area to the college. A Lendbaby tilt lens gives the toy-town look to the image, the shifted plane of focus draws the eye to the sharper areas of the image.
