i think the thing that gets me the most is that jordan peele movies are not difficult to understand, but people still dont get it and at a certain point it seems almost willful or intentional not to understand anything outside the marvel formula, especially when it comes to movies about the othering or abuse or marginalization of POC. he is a very accomplished writer and director, who skillfully finds the middle ground between throwing ideas in your face and obscuring them in shadows. “whats up with the shoe tho????” its a bad miracle, or its a false memory in jupes mind obscuring his trauma, or hes waiting for the other shoe to drop, or its just something to set the tone. either way, its not about the shoe, its about everything. you just watched a giant hungry predatory camera graphically digest a bunch of people and spit them out, just like the film industry chews people up and spits them out, but the shoe is the thing you cant get past. “what was the point of the monkey scene” its the most pivotal scene in the entire movie, thats the point. its about exploitation, its about trauma, its about the abuse of animal and child actors to manufacture spectacle. thats the entire point of everything, and he didnt exactly spoon feed it to you but its not like you have to have a film degree to get this. you tell me what you think the shoe means. sit with the idea, consider the possibilities.
woah dude..... your hurt sound is vaguely sexual..... im trying to kill you but im. im getting a bit flustered

Anti-gun leftists are fuckin loser nerds and genuinely fucking awful at observing history
Restricting weapons has always come from a landed, rich, powerful ruling class attempting to pacify populations and squash any possible chance at resistance or even self-defense, affording weapons as a privilege to only the martial ruling class. Gun control is the same story. Even modern gun control comes directly from the mouth of billionaires like Bloomberg, who pours hundreds of millions into campaigns to push this idea. All of the proposals presented and laws enacted simply serve to make guns inaccessible to working-class populations. It also relies on means of production being controlled and consolidated in the hands of those loyal to the ruling class to control the flow of weapons and make them inaccessible to the working class. Ignoring all that, say it works perfectly, it’s an ideal that can only possibly work in metropolitan areas and hangs rural people out to dry.
On every level, anti-gun politics are disastrous and victimizing. They only serve the interests of the bourgeois.
It is propaganda.
whether you have gun control or not the rich and powerful will take them away from those who are dangerous to them. you may as well be in favour of allowing citizens to have explosives too. it’s a public health issue. criminals will always be able to get illegal arms and those who oppose the state will always be criminals.
I am in favor of citizens having explosives lol. Explosives are legal for personal use in the US and we don’t have terror bombings all over the place. Especially when explosives are easier to make and acquire than guns are, that says a lot about the nature of violence in America.
this is really, really not the dunk you seem to think it is.
I’m conflicted on this because like yea the above is all true. But we need to do something like mass shootings are happening everyday, and it’s not like this in other countries.
We had a shooting scare at my school. He didn’t make it to the building, thank god!! But yea i just feel like we need to do something.
please dont take this as an attack on you personally because its not, i completely understand the horror that shootings represent, but i think its emblematic of how effective gun control propaganda is that even in a discussion about how ineffectual gun control is, how its been used to disarm and stratify the population, how there are other more pertinent factors in shootings on a societal scale like media circus, the conversation turns back to “we need to do something” with the implication that gun control may be unsavory but what else can we do
people regard it as unrealistic and too wide in scope, not just due to anti gun propaganda but wider propaganda in general, but the most effective things we can do to reduce gun violence are social in nature, both in terms of social programs to reduce poverty and in terms of combatting white supremacy and incel shit and other bigoted shit thats often the influence in these attacks. the single biggest short term immediate step we could take would be to cut down on the media hype train for shootings
its also worth noting that while there are differences in degree due to a variety of factors, mass shootings DO occur in other countries, even ones with strict gun control, and the societal causes are largely the same

about the anti gun stuff, i completely agree. i wonder what your stance is on the idea that we need gun control due to mass shootings (especially comitted by young people) like how they have such easy access to firearms? i believe in the right to bear arms and explosives but i cant help but think, if guns were less accessible, maybe those rates of shootings would go down. i dont know if i sound stupid but what do you think?
Availability has zero effect on shootings. Waiting periods don't do much because these shooters often plan for months and months. They generally follow all the laws to acquire these weapons, sometimes they even pass background checks when they shouldn't. There was a decade-long assault weapon ban lasting from 1994 to 2004 and it was consciously allowed to expire because the change in violent crime was immeasurably different from the overall trend of decreasing violent crime. Most mass shootings happen in California, statistically, and California has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. Just ask any gun owner in California. Their laws are arcane and make no goddamn sense, yet most shootings happen there.
Mass shootings are almost all copy-cat attacks and they've been happening more and more frequently following the sensationalization of these events. Like, for example, the AR-15 has this reputation as being a "mass shooter" weapon. It was hardly ever used in mass shootings before the Newtown shooting, when news sources put so much emphasis on the fact that the shooter used an AR-15. Following that, there was a disproportionate rise in cases where AR-15s were used in mass shootings. Which, granted, is still in the minority as mass shootings happen more with handguns than anything else, but there was an out-of-trend rise.
These shootings happen because the shooters want notoriety. They are given exactly what they want. The more these shootings are made into a media event, the more shootings we've been having.
It should also be noted that mass shootings are, statistically, incredibly rare. The criteria for "mass shooting" is often manipulated to over-represent the number of mass shootings happening. There's currently a media campaign that's labeling any shooting that has more than one injury a "mass shooting". Gun control advocacy is all about manipulating statistics to scare the shit out of you despite the fact that all evidence points to gun control being ineffective.
Gun availability and accessibility does not have “zero effect” on rates of mass shootings or shootings in general.
We don’t need to spread false information to make our arguments for arming ourselves. It’s as bad as liberals trying to argue against guns with false information because they have never held a gun in their life and don’t do their research.
Gun ownership has consequences. We need to argue that gun control has worse consequences.
There's no conclusive evidence to suggest gun control has a positive effect on crime statistics. Genuinely. This is not arguable. The evidence is just not there. Crawl out of my ass weirdo.
I love how tom wamsgans is coded female in the most upsetting 1950s way possible. On his wedding night shiv is like “Listen i need to fuck other people” and tries to shanghai him into a thressome. Logans literally like “Hey tom shut up until you produce me an heir, what else are you for?” His wifes mistress comes to their WEDDING. Shiv humiliates tom at dinner parties. She is doing literal philip roth/john updike husband activities as a woman. It’s delicious
also the backstory of shiv being like a troubled party girl when they met and tom’s like “i can take care of her, i can change her :)” and shiv is like haha no you can’t actually change me but i will keep you hanging onto that hope forever
