I was wondering if you could talk a little about how you, personally, go about writing a story and how you get into the "writing mode" (listen to music, etc.). Do you outline an entire 4 book arc before scripting book 1 or do you try and hit milestones?
First, and most important, is coffee. Coffee coffee coffee. It is my favorite thing on Earth and I canāt do anything, writing or otherwise, before that sweet, sweet nectar hits my lips.
So generally I take the time to enjoy my coffee and breakfast before I get started, which is when Iāll do things like answer Tumblr questions (like now!) or mess around on Twitter or whatever. Those things actually help get my brain moving. Then depending on what Iām working on that day, Iāll cue up some appropriate music ā I always listen to music when I write, silence is too distracting for me.
And yes, I outline the whole story. Comics requires you to plan ahead, so even if the story changes as you actually write (and it will) I find youāve got to have a general road map.
Aside from things Iām co-writing with Ben, I do all of my rough drafts in pen in a spiral notebook (the stuff with Ben we do in a shared Google Doc).Ā The rough draft is the hardest part for me (you know, the actual writing part), so if Iām doing it on my computer I find myself trying to find excuses to avoid it ā surfing the Internet or answering e-mails or what have you. So I disconnect and do it by hand away from the clutches of the Internet.Ā

Iām not going to start this review the way you expect. My usual style is not going to be present because I have to start with the truth. I didnāt want to read these issues. Before I continue you need some info on Enormous. Originally this story published a one-shot at Image Comics (I believe through Shadowline because they were into printing oversized issues at the time) and was just aā¦
