Just because you aren't appreciated by someone doesn't mean that what you've done for them isn't good enough.

Some people are just so uncomfortable with themselves that no level of love given can make them feel accepted or worthy. And in times when you sacrifice your own happiness so that they can have theirs, they will find some way to keep themselves from being able to embrace it. It's painful to watch someone you care so much for choose emotional darkness over the rays of light you consistently try to shine on them.
