Someone close to me had a set of 8 wineglasses and one broke, so they gave me the other seven and told me to throw them out. Not have them for myself, not donate them to an op shop, throw them out. I'd seen odd-numbered sets of cups and glassware in op-shops and at garage sales for so long that it was background noise, but the idea of throwing something out because it wasn't quite right? Even though there was nothing wrong with it?
I grew up op-shopping. My childhood was so much second-hand clothes and op-shop toys. And now in this day and age, so many people are scraping by. I don't want to contribute to the waste. I want to help save things and give them a second life. I have the skills, I have the means, I have the interest in doing so. I hope it helps, even in a small way, to make the world better and to help others see that not everything has to be sent to the trash just because it doesn't immediately meet previous expectations.
