Congratulations on finishing the semester! I know this last project was really tough. Don't worry, I'm taking the book's nearly-impenetrable instructions and the complexity of the model into consideration. Overall I'm really pleased with what every one has accomplished. Even if it doesn't feel like it now, you all did very well.

Wow...what a week.  I had a heck of time with this one.  I wish I knew what some of you others did to make the really awesome life like looking one.  I had trouble getting the directx shader to work properly and even when it did start rendering properly it still didn't look glossy or anything.  Anyway as you can see my final project in all its glory.  I think I just ran out of gas this week.  My brain could not wrap around any of the stuff we had to do.  My dirt map was shoddy, the scratch map doesn't look like scratches, nothing went my way this week.   Overall I'm not really happy with it but I have done all i can do, 3D texturing is something i need a lot of practice on still.  Anyway I know no comments are required this week but if you want to let me know what you think I would appreciate it.  See some/all of you next quarter.

Well I tried to get mine to match the end result that the book got, but a few things were off. I actually implemented the "mess up the whole thing by doing the step by step process once, then go back and redo everything for a better result" method lol, but regardless it seemed to pay off. I am actually quite pleased with the outcome this week. Obviously I used the books model instead of mine, but that was because theirs actually resembled the helghast character and it had a lot more detail for the lighting to play off of. Despite the difficulty of this course, I actually had a lot of fun. I cant believe I learned as much as I did either. I only have 3 program classes left, and I dont know if any of you are taking the same ones that I am next term, so if I dont see you again, good luck with everything. If I do, I look forward to further working with you :)

It is Amazing how much a little one on one time with an actual 3d artist can do. I was so lost until my brother came to town for a visit and we went through this lesson. Things are starting to make sense now. I cut some things out because I didn't have a lot of time but I'm very pleased with what I finally came up with. I messed with the lighting a bit to give it the mood I was looking for. I didnt put near the amount of lights they had. A lot more confident about this than I was a couple weeks ago. Enjoy!

It's amazing how it looks really complicated and intricate in the render but its really not. Love it! Now I need to see if I can do something like this without a book.

I was able to use the .obj files from the uv program. You have to import the .obj file back into max after working on it in uv layout, however the texturing got the best of me here. For some reason I lost part of the leg in the process and I couldn't retrieve because I had already collapsed the stacks with the turbosmooth in there. Some of the Uvs were messed up as well. This was an fairly difficult project and I am not happy with the outcome.

I couldn't get the texture mapping done on the truck but this was my final product.

Finally done well as best I could. I'm pretty happy with how the whole thing turned out. Still amazed how much texturing, lighting and everything makes the model look SOOOO much better than it actually is :). I wish would have had more time for all the cool details and made it closer. I had decided just to focus on the main parts to make them as close as I could. Now I might get to actually sleep :p but I'll probably just finally get to play Skyrim for hours and hours :)

Here is my monster as far as I've got it. I'm trying to catch up after a computer crash. Great time to have a computer crash. So I've taken a break to show you what I have so far and now back to work.  Everyone else looks great!

Here is my assignment for the week.  I had a heck of time with getting the UVs setup UVLayout doesn't like me very much, but I need to work with it more.  I was able to get everything colored but its not super detailed, no glossy look, but overall I am pretty happy with it.  Texturing stuff is definitely something I need a lot of work on still.  Anyway, let me know what you think.

This is where I am so far. I have all of the individual parts unwrapped and exported, but when i save the file in uv layout it doesn't seem to be saving anything. Anyone else having a problem with uv layout?

Well, needless to say, I started over and redid week 1 on top of this weeks assigment. I dont think you guys even want to know how much time I spent on this haha. I am actually pretty proud of how well it turned out. It was surprisingly easy to get the body modeled, I guess I somehow managed to learn something through my struggles last week. The part that I really struggled with though was the head. My chest must not have been at the angle theirs was or something, because when I extruded it and pulled it forward it yanked a bunch of vertices out of place and created some ugly lines in the model. After hours of tweaking I decided it was as good as it was going to get. Anyway, this is what I ended up with.
