Bruno Barbey BRAZIL. Amazonas. Amazon river. 1966.
In the flickering twilight of El-Fasher, a child clutches a soot-covered doll beside a pile of ashes where her home once stood.
Mothers huddle in the corridors of the last functioning hospital, terrified that the next drone strike will claim the wounded they tend. Fathers dig graves with their hands, burying children in the courtyards of shattered schools.
For 18 months, the city endured a siege that stripped it of food, water, and life. When its gates finally fell, it was not liberation that entered. It was annihilation.
Witnesses speak of men dragged from their homes, women and children executed in the streets, hospitals shelled while terrified civilians sheltered inside.
Human Rights Watch has documented scenes of mass killings, burning, and looting. The UN has described the assault as a "campaign of extermination". And behind the force that carried out this atrocity stands a patron whose fingerprints stain every front of Sudan’s war: the United Arab Emirates.
If the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are the visible executioners, the hand that directs them is Abu Dhabi’s.
It has poured cash, weapons, and political cover into the war machine of RSF leader Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo - known as Hemeti - igniting a conflict that has torn Sudan apart.
A dark history
Arms continue to reach the RSF commander through the porous borders of Chad and Libya, and by air flights through UAE bases in Somaliland, sustaining a war that has displaced millions and hollowed out the country’s institutions.
Even the UK’s own military equipment has found its way into RSF hands, exposing the West’s silent complicity in the crimes it publicly condemns.
The RSF’s roots lie in the darkest corners of Sudan’s modern history. Formed under former President Omar al-Bashir as a paramilitary arm of the National Intelligence and Security Service, it was later folded into the army’s framework without losing its autonomy.
Its leader, Hemedti, rose from humble camel trader to warlord, from Bashir’s enforcer in Darfur to deputy head of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council.
In 2019, the RSF helped depose Bashir, joining the transitional government while quietly preserving its independence and foreign sponsors. That fragile coexistence with the army collapsed in April 2023, when negotiations over security reform failed.
What followed was not merely a military confrontation but a struggle for the nation’s survival: a state pitted against the mercenary force it once created.
Since the popular uprising of 2018 that overthrew Bashir, Abu Dhabi has intervened to sabotage the Sudanese revolution and divert it from its course.
It armed and financed Hemedti - the Janjaweed commander once used by Bashir to crush Darfur - and sought to exploit that same brutal expertise to destroy Sudan, fragment it, and divide it further, using its petrodollars as a weapon of disintegration.
A Middle East Eye investigation revealed how this support operates: through a clandestine network of airlifts, arms, and mercenaries. In Somalia’s port city of Bosaso, Emirati cargo planes marked "hazardous" land and depart under cover of night, part of a covert operation funnelling weapons and fighters into Sudan.
Colombian mercenaries recruited by UAE-based private firms have been deployed under RSF command in Darfur’s killing fields. This is not proxy war by accident, but by design.
But Sudan is only the latest theatre in Abu Dhabi’s long campaign of counter-revolution."
✍️ Opinion by Soumaya Ghannoushi
People talk about the conflict in Gaza as it is shown in the news. As soon as the ceasefire was announced, everyone treated the issue like a hot ball they wanted to throw away, and no one talks about reconstruction anymore.
Nine out of ten homes in Gaza have been completely destroyed, and the city is still being bombed. Its people continue to be killed — tonight alone, more than 100 people were martyred, most of them children and women. No reconstruction has begun, and their children are camping on the ruins of their destroyed homes, in the freezing cold, as winter rapidly approaches.
Before anything else, they are hoping the ceasefire will hold.
Palestinians need more than our sympathy—they need our persistence. keep showing up. keep reminding them they aren’t forgotten. hope isn’t abstract. hope is food delivered, medicine funded, lives preserved. hope is us refusing to stop caring for humans in desperate need.
Zeina is one of the many people you can help, I implore you to try. 💜
My friends, please understand, the so-called “ceasefire” is not real. In some areas the bombing has stopped, but the Israeli army still surrounds Gaza and allows only a tiny amount of aid to enter, just enough to keep people barely alive. From time to time, they resume bombing and destruction again, bringing more fear, more ruin, and more blood. 💔
We live among the rubble, covered in dust and smoke, with no shelter, no hospitals, no clean water, and no safe roads. Every day is a struggle to survive hunger, illness, and despair. Families are torn apart, children cry from pain, and the elderly wait for help that never comes.
Please, don’t ignore us. Don’t let my family and others fade away in this deadly silence. Your donation means food, medicine, and a small chance to survive another day. It means a glimpse of hope in a place that has forgotten what hope feels like.
And to the governments of this unjust world, where is your humanity? You unite and move mountains for the remains of a few Israeli soldiers, yet you abandon more than two million people to live in conditions beyond human endurance. Gaza is not a headline; it is a land full of souls still fighting to live.
Please, help us survive. Don’t let our lives fade away in the dust and smoke. 🙏💔

Plus qu'un simple accessoire, c'est un symbole de l'histoire et de l'identité khmère, visible sur les anciens temples et porté aujourd'hui lors des mariages, des cérémonies et de la danse classique.

We are trapped between hunger and death
between relentless bombing and the fear that never leaves our hearts. Each night falls upon us as if it could be our last, and we do not know if we will live to see the morning or be counted among the dead. I cry out from a heart heavy with pain: is there no one who hears us? Is there no one who can reach out and save our lives? Please, for the sake of your humanity, for the mercy within your hearts, help me and my family before this darkness consumes us.

🔴🔴🔴 Last night, in Gaza City, more than 20 people including children, women, and the elderly were trapped under the rubble. Civil defense teams stood helpless, unable to rescue them due to the lack of heavy equipment and bulldozers. The Israeli forces that carried out the strike had already destroyed much of this vital equipment, making rescue operations nearly impossible.
This is not an isolated incident. Dozens of families face the same fate every single day. My family, or any family, could be the next — either crushed under the rubble or left to endure the unbearable hunger that the surviving families are living through.
We ask you to be our voice:
1️⃣ Share this post and spread the story.
2️⃣ Reblog with a comment — every share helps us reach more people.
3️⃣ Donate if you can so my family can provide the most basic daily necessities that keep us alive.
May relief come soon. 🙏🇵🇸

30 August 2025.
The US-backed terrorist state of Israel bombed a crowded bakery in Al-Nasr neighbourhood, west of Gaza City, killing and wounding many civilians...many children...
These innocent civilians were killed by Zionists while they were waiting for bread.

Today in northern Gaza, near where I live, the Israeli army targeted a bus full of displaced people and children.
The flames consumed the vehicle, and the civil defense managed to pull out a child’s body… but because of ongoing gunfire from the Israeli army, they could not continue and rescue the other four people still trapped inside the bus. 💔🔥
This is not just “another news story” — this is our daily life turning into hell before our eyes.
My family and I are living the same fear, the same hunger, the same helplessness.
We cannot stop the bombing, but you can help us stay alive and make it through just one more day amidst the destruction.
👉 Any support — even the smallest — can mean survival for an entire family. 🙏🇵🇸

🔴 BREAKING — One of the hardest nights we’ve endured:
Relentless artillery and airstrikes, with dust and the smell of gunpowder filling the air.
Children, women, and the elderly running through the streets fleeing the bombardment, not knowing where to go — a scene that feels like doomsday itself.
The occupation forces people to leave their homes by sheer pressure, but displacement itself is another tragedy:
Costs that most families in Gaza — already living below zero — simply cannot bear.
Crippling overcrowding in unsafe, tiny areas.
Endless suffering with no way out.
✋ In the middle of all this, my family — like most Palestinian families in Gaza — is starving and stripped of everything.
👉 Your support is the only lifeline helping us survive hunger and endure these endless horrors.
