Happy Halloween! I couldn’t resist ending this month of vampires with my new favorite - Near Dark (1987, Kathryn Bigelow.) This film blends elements of romance, horror, and a moody western. And you just can’t help but fall in love with Bill Paxton as Severen. Check it out on Ovguide (free)

Great horror remakes are hard to come by, but Fright Night (2011, Craig Gillespie) delivers.  The updated effects and stellar cast (Colin Farrell, David Tennant, and the late Anton Yelchin) make this an awesome choice, even if you weren’t already familiar with the original.  Rent it on Fandango!
