The Caesars banners lazily made it photoshop!!!
Paper Tigers, the 4th album by The Caesars (and the first one I bought a CD of) was released on the 26th of April, 2005. The recordings first began in Silence Studio in the winter of 2003 but were moved to Joakim Ahlund’s Decibel Studio in Stockholm.
I’m basically making this blog so someone who really loves the Caesars too stumbles upon it or something. Like a hidden treasure! Anyway, let’s talk about Paper Tigers. "one meaty, vigorous track after another of modern-Mersey-beat pop..." reviews David Browne of Entertainment Weekly: "All retro rock should sound this good." And he’s right! There are so many tracks on this album which not only have unique sound and amazing melodies but heartwarming, yet hope-killing lyrics that no one else could produce.
On the other side, Heather Phares of Allmusic says that “beyond "Jerk It Out," "It's Not the Fall That Hurts" and "Soulchaser," there were not many other memorable songs on the album.” but that’s just because she doesn’t know anything about good music! Just messing around, everyone has different eardrums!
So as it’s already obvious that I hold the Caesars in high regard, I’d best explain why, and I will briefly for every track of this album! From the excellent to the amazing and legendary:
11. May The Rain (The drums are wicked cool. Also it’s angry, which isn’t too Caesars but good to hear.)
10. Spirit (The contrast between the beginning and the later part of the song is very satisfying. The whole song makes you feel like a spirit, running through streets made for you.)
9. My Heart Is Breaking Down (Sometimes good, simple and honest words really get to you heart. Like in this song.)
8. It’s Not The Fall That Hurts (I’m a loser, so it’s nice to have a loser song that makes you feel pretty alright.)
7. Soulchaser (I think this song is about finally taking that wild, dangerous step you waited to take forever. Or running forever. Good on you! Also the drums are wild.)
6. Winter Song (You will feel winter in the middle of the summer if you listen to this track. It’s so different from all their other songs too.)
5. Throwaway (I don’t know, the beat and the melody take it here. It’s just so good.)
4. Paper Tigers (Desperation unites, I guess. It’s as sad as it is good for us. The bass too though.)
3. Out There (I’m not even sure what this song is about besides being fooled. It might be fooling me but I don’t care, I really want to be out there.)
2. We Got To Leave (Lyrics make it. Running away is so tempting and this song understands like no other from what we’re running and why.)
1. Your Time Is Near (Nothing sounds better than a tale that talks about why death is inevitable, especially when it’s so sweetly explained as it is in this track. I could die to this song)
