Theatre visit to see Antigone in Glasgow TUES 19th November
Approximately 50 Drama and Classics students from Calderside Academy upper school will be going to see a production of Antigone at the Cottiers Theatre on the evening of TUE 19th November 2013. I have now extended the invitation to all my 3rd year classes.
If you think you too may be interested in coming, see me- Mr Coleman- or Mrs Cunningham- as soon as possible. The price, including travel there & back + ticket to see the performance is only £12.50.
With the number of places limited and only 10 places now left, it's strictly first come, first served...!
ANTIGONE
by Sophocles
directed by Mark Coleman
Two brothers, on opposite sides in a war, meet in combat - and kill each other.
King Creon orders that one - the one loyal to him – should be buried with full military honours; the corpse of the other boy must be left to rot unmourned, unburied and violated by birds and beats of prey.
Their sisters, Antigone and Ismene take opposing views: Antigone will bury her brother, Ismene will bow to the king’s law.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO …?"
Whereas to read Sophocles’ play is to encounter political and ethical dilemmas, to see it live in the theatre is to experience something infinitely more potent- a thrilling drama dealing with the world as it is RIGHT NOW.
Director Mark Coleman’s bold new production of Sophocles’ classic reimagines the events unfolding in a war-ravaged Middle Eastern state.

Antigone is a set text for both
Higher DRAMA
&
Higher CLASSICS.
“Ultimately one leaves the theatre feeling that one has been in contact with truly great tragic theatre. That is something which many of Scotland's professional companies would struggle to achieve."
