Hello my Tumblrines... big news from JJ Industries today...
So l'm rewatching a Deltarune Chapter 3 playthrough and, well, in the Doom Board, Tenna goes "Hey, Mike? Could you, uh, cancel my 4am shock therapy session? ‘Cause it looks like it's happening right now.”
And that's got me and my friend @bbylttrs thinkin,
Mike should not have cancelled that session because Tenna is losing his goddamn mind
Is Tenna sleeping enough? Because he's losing his goddamn mind
Why does he need shock therapy? Is he a freak? A freak on a leash? Certifiably? Seven days a week?
And, the answer to number 3 at least is: yes.
IN THIS ESSAY I WILL explain how not only is Tenna a freak, but how Spamton matches his freak to an unnatural degree, and how the beloved Deltarune ship of SpamTenna is INDEED, sadomasochistic in nature.
Ok so really I don’t have MUCH, beyond the fact that I’m just a girl who’s been living off of SpamTenna content for the last month (you’ve seen my reblogs), but the least I can do is provide whatever in-game examples I can to support this jank theory.
So let’s start simple:
Spamton:
Originally, he was going to be second in this list, but then I realized that Tenna has way much more going on with him. So Spamton has been moved up.
I’ll come out the gate with my strongest evidence: the Thorn Ring in Weird Route. Now, I’m no Weird Route expert at all, in fact, I haven’t even seen what it’s like for Chapters 3 and 4, but what I DO know, is that the Thorn Ring is stronger based on damage taken? Or something like that? bbylttrs said it profits off pain so I’ll take their word for it. Again, I really don’t know. But if that isn’t the most sadistic thing you’ve ever heard. Adding a separate bit specifically for the Thorn Ring and the S.Poison check text below though, because bbylttrs just provided me with it.
Thorn Ring Check: "Wearer takes damage from pain. Reduces the TP cost of ice spells."
S.Poison Check: "A strange concoction made of colorful squares. Will poison you."
S.Poison Battle Text: "Hurts party member."
S.Poison Shop Text: "ITEM ITEM AFFECTS HP A LOT! THE SMOOTH TASTE OF"
S.Poison Effects: “+40HP, then slowly drains 60HP from party member it was used on. (in battle)
Like he was just gonna give that literal poison to you??? Spamton doesn't even say if it's gonna affect your hp positively or negatively, he just says "A LOT!" Like that’s total bullhonky, are you fr.
And it takes more health than it gives??? Hello??? It gives something good and then slowly takes it away from you??? Bull. Honky.
(2.) Also the fact that Spamton will just use Kris for his own personal benefit (Attaining the [Smooth Taste of NEO] and reaching [HEAVEN]). Not to mention he’s just fully prepared to blast Kris to bits once he’s gotten the Neo body. He just viewed you as expendable the entire time you’re helping him. And really he only goes “Oh, nevermind you’re kinda cool” after you and the Fun Gang have cut all (but one) of his strings and beat him, because he finally realized the power of friendship, and only then will he join you on your journey as an item.
(3.) Semi-(dis)honorable mention to the Angel-Spams. While they are adorable and very helpful, I wondered if they would could count against our case, as healing is like. The opposite of sadism. We decided that no, they wouldn’t, because that’s just Spamton being nice since you [Press F1 For Help].
(4.) BUT, bbylttrs told me that Spamton also sells poison but promotes it as something else. So. Sadism back in full effect, he’s just gonna give you something that will hurt you, for fun, and money, of course. Which honestly begs the question of if sadism is an Addison trait in general, because in Castle Town, Blue Addison (tempted to call him “AddiBlue”) will just straight up say “We may be ADs, but WE have INTEGRITY! (Free poison! Drink here!)” Like he’s just gonna give that to you?? For free?? Okay?? But that’s a post for another time.
Tenna:
He’s basically the entire reason this post was made, and I really only have quotes to offer rather than actions? And it’s mainly because Tenna just says a lot of freaky things that can’t be ignored.
During the Susiezilla sequence he says “Tennas Balls” which tbh isn’t that big a deal, it’s just weird why did he say that.
Before the Susiezilla sequence, he says “Feel free to come over and watch any time! You don’t even need to come in! Stand outside and watch me through the window! It’ll be our little secret! The police will never know!” Again. Weird. What the hell are you talking about?
In Chapter 4 when you’re talking to the Nobody, they go “Tenna, you cad. What is this… salacious music video?” “Oh my, I think something just awakened within me…” So clearly Tenna’s hiding some real sexual shit if he managed to give Mettaton his gay awakening. What growing up in a Christian household does to a CRT, man, I swear…
I don’t remember when he says this, but at some point he says “Hear that whine? That’s your CRT asking for a walk!” Excuse me sir, you want to be walked? Dog.
Similarly, during his boss fight: “Who says an old CRT can’t learn new tricks?” Freak. Dog.
Before Board 2, he says (in reference to that dial) “Okay you can touch it, just be gentle.” What the balls. Sounds like something a masochist would say. Except it’s NOT. But he doesn’t want the censors to kill him, so of course he’d have to water it down a tad.
He’s surprisingly okay with deadly force being used on him, mentioned twice in the game: first is when you begin the Desert Board (Susie: “How do I kill this guy?” Tenna: “Get in line, kid!”) and right before his boss fight (“I just had this suit DE-AXED!!!”). It’s the way he’s so calm about it. What, does he ask Mike to throw axes at him? Just so he can feel something? I bet he does. Is he that terrible to his staff on purpose just so they make attempts on his life? I bet he does. I bet he liked when the Knight cut off his arms, didn’t he? I bet he did.
Shock therapy. The reason we’re all here. And why exactly does he need shock therapy? He needs therapy for sure, but shock therapy? Is it to feel something?? You empty, empty husk of a man?? I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE. FREAK. DOG.
Honorable mention to how in Castle Town, Tenna had apparently been staring at Rouxls’ ass long enough to determine that it was small. That’s just kinda weird y’know but no judgement, I’m not the pot calling the kettle black or anything.
I’m sorry if this is very rambly, I’ve been working on this for like 3 hours now. It was 9:49 when I started and now it’s 1:00 so like. Yeah. And I’ve been losing my sanity ever since I started. But as you can see here, Tenna is actually the freakiest Deltarune character, and idk how to feel about that, other than I think the masochistic claims are not misplaced. And, honestly, Tenna having a 9:4 “Proof of Freak” ratio against Spamton is jarring. I mean. Spamton is like. The Freak™️. And yet Tenna out-freaks him??? Absolutely insane.

Hello everyone, JJ here, back at it again with another episode of Deltarune
So, I’m rewatching Chapter 3 again (it’s genuinely my favorite chapter, I’ve seen it like at least 10 times), and I just finished watching the Susiezilla sequence, and I realized, Tenna drops one of the funniest, freakiest lines
When the paper-mache Spamton drops down, Tenna goes “Kill him!! Kill him now!!!” and “Show dominance!!! Show dominance now!!! Show it!!!”
Excuse me sir? “Show dominance”? Freak. Dog.
Anyway that’s enough out of me, continue about your business
p.s. Susie and Tenna are so awesome they’re so found family and I love them - Susie goes to see him and he just goes “SUSIE, sweetheart, my STAR contestant,” and my heart melts
And SURE, he might’ve been laying it on thick and he was panicking because he was just on a suspicious phone call, but when he calms down and Susie says she was having fun, he’s exactly the same and he’s so sweet and I LOVE HIM
Who would win: the twelve angry men from Twelve Angry Men or the seven samurai from Seven Samurai?
