Jade and gold earrings created by Parisian jeweller Eugène Fontenay (1823-1887) in 1867.

Archaeological excavations in the nineteenth century gave rise to jewellery inspired by the Ancient world. Fontenay became particularly famous for his bijoux etrusques, many based on designs in the Campana collection of Etruscan, Hellene, and Roman jewellery acquired by the French State in 1861.
