I feel I should finally touch on this. Please keep in mind that have neither seen nor read Fifty Shades of Gray, so I can’t give my opinion on that subject. I can, however, educate people on BDSM. BDSM, which I know is a key factor of the story, stands for Bondage, Discipline, Domination, Sadism, and Masochism. It is a common misconception that BDSM strictly involves pain. There are different levels, situations, and practices in each relationship. BDSM is just that- a relationship. It doesn’t have to be an intimate, monogamous, polgamous, boyfriend/girlfriend, boyfriend/boyfriend, girlfriend/girlfriend, or marital relationship. It’s an adventure of trust, passion, loyalty, and, most of all, CONSENT. Another misconception is that it’s sexual, physical, and mental abuse. Please know that BDSM is always consensual and safety is ALWAYS a priority between the partners. If there is no consent THEN it is considered a crime. BDSM itself is not a crime nor will it or should it ever become one. If you have seen or read and are questioning Fifty Shades of Gray and its subject matter, please open your mind. If the woman and man both agreed to the relationship, it IS a relationship and should be respected as such. It boils down to what could be taken as a more understandable metaphor- I don’t understand tomatoes. They somehow manage to be squishy, juicy, and crunchy at the same time. Really, tomatoes? Anyways, just because I don’t understand or like tomatoes doesn’t mean I don’t recognize it as a vegetable. A tomato is a vegetable just as BDSM is an act of passion. Education is key- please educate yourself on the topic before you perceive it as something negative.
