417 HEMA: Historical European Martial Arts in Springfield, Missouri
Tomita Sensei, Puerto Rico adopted son....
Maestro Ramón Martínez and Maestro Gregorio “Goyo” Acevedo have met and collaborated. The two esteemed fencing masters are highly respected in the realms of classical, historical, and traditional fencing.
While geographically separated—with Martínez operating the Martínez Academy of Arms in New York City and Acevedo based at the University of Puerto Rico—they have connected through the broader fencing community and shared academic pursuits in preserving traditional fencing arts.
Would you like to know more about the specific systems of swordsmanship (such as Classical Foil, Italian Sabre, or La Verdadera Destreza) that they practice and teach? Let me know what aspects of their fencing lineage or careers you are most interested in exploring.

HEMA Manual : A new project on the works from the creators of HEMA D
HEMA Deck wrote:
Over the past few years, while training, assembling equipment, and actively participating in the HEMA community, one thing became clear: There are excellent historical sources. There are experienced instructors. There are many interpretations.
But there is no single, structured guide explaining modern HEMA as it exists today.
That's why we decided to create HEMA MANUAL.
It is not a techniques book. It is not a historical treatise.
It is a structured guide to understanding modern HEMA — its equipment standards, terminology, training realities, and community structure.
Our goal is not only to organize knowledge, but to support the long-term growth of HEMA as a living culture — and to make it easier for new generations of practitioners to enter the community with clarity and confidence.
A book we were looking for when we started.
The Kickstarter pre-launch page is now live.
Thank you for being part of this journey.

"Tiger" Mike Edelson
We just received the heavy news of Maese Mike Edelson passing from our our friends of the Phoenix Society of Historical Swordmanship. Mike was a well known and loved historical fencer, author , father and husband. We remember him visiting years back the island and being the HEMA guy from NY. His book, videos and articles are the main reason we incorporated the practice of cutting into our HEMA practice. Our thoughts are with his family.

Happy One Thousand Cuts!!!
At 417 HEMA We do our own thing, we have being doing it for two decades now....it s a bit harder, it may take a bit longer, we dont jump right into what everyone else perceives as the fun stuff. But at the end of the day , it s always rewarding...you do feel and know that you learnt something useful as a historical fencer and not just went through a whole bunch of rushed and half cooked interpretations of techniques to do some poorly supervised sparring at the end without a clue of what you are doing.....instead of a true sense of accomplishment.
The One Thousand cuts is a staple of our method...it means that you are growing beyond the Basic class into the Intermediate class and a whole world of new things to learnt and practice.....effectively growing as a historical fencer.
