in memoriam of Sol Pais who tragically committed suicide on April 15, 2019 at just 18 years old. She was a beautiful soul caught in the confusion and weight of a world that didn't know how to hold her gently enough. Behind the headlines there was a person who was complex, hurting, and deeply loved. Her life, though short, reminds us of how fragile pain can be when it goes unseen. May she be remembered not for her final act, but for the fact that she was here at all. That she existed, mattered, and deserved more kindness than she was able to find. Although her life ended far too soon, the conversation about care, awareness, and compassion does not have to. Let her memory move people to look closer at the quiet ones, to check in more often, and to treat fragile hearts with patience instead of judgment.
I hope that wherever she is now, the confusion is gone. I hope she has peace and the kind of quiet she was searching for without pain attached to it. And I hope the world she left behind learns to be softer for the next person who feels as lost as she did.
