What are birds?

This question is actually surprisingly complicated and depends on what, exactly, you think makes a bird a bird.

Traits that we commonly associate with birds, such as warm-bloodedness, feathers, and flight, arose independently along bird’s evolutionary history; making it hard to draw the line between bird and not-bird. 

So what are birds? We just don’t know.
