One of the best things about the Sailor Moon series is its protagonist. Usagi Tsukino is just so damn relatable. She oversleeps, eats too many sweets, arrives late to class, fails her school tests, worries about her weight, feels insecure in real life and at times too afraid to fight her enemies even as Sailor Moon (and on top of that she's such a crybaby). All this makes it easy to empathize with her.

Remember that recent Wonder Woman movie which was supposed to make us girls relate to a strong female character on the screen and feel empowered? Yeah, I didn't feel like it got the job done. Sure, Wonder Woman is all powerful - but that is exactly the problem. How can you relate to a character whose level of perfection is a bit unrealistic?

Usagi, on the other hand, is just like any other girl. And yet she's also powerful and strong and fights all kinds of monsters and bad guys. This is the message she sends us all: you can be perfectly imperfect, and still be a hero.
