“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isa 30:21NIV
How do you hear God’s voice? How can I know what God is saying? How do I hear which way to go and not make a mistake? God’s direction is imperative, how do I find His direction? These are questions I hear frequently.
Let me begin with a scripture everyone loves to quote. “For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. — Almost everyone stops with verse 11.— ‘Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. ‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. ‘I will be found by you,’ declares the LORD…” Jer 29:11-14a. But the secret of finding God’s will lies in verses 12 and 13. Your heart has to be set— determined— committed to find God’s will.
This year, the doctor said ‘Debbie, we need to look inside of your colon and find out what’s going on in there.’ Then he prescribed a regimen— (First) set the date for me to come in to do the procedure. (This is my least favorite medical procedure.) Second, I had to cut all solid foods. Third, I had to drink only clear liquids— nothing red or orange for two days. Fourth, to finish I had to drink a concoction from nightmares at two different times. The sole purpose was to clean everything on the inside out of me.
To hear God’s voice, when you’re not used to listening, follows much the same pattern.
**You first need to set a date with God. I usually take three days alone to seek for the Lord.
**During this time, i cut out all solid foods. It’s called fasting. Food is my normal fast. Some people cut all meats during this time. Others cut all sugars. What you decide to fast will be what you crave like never before, #justwarningyou.
**Drink plenty of fluids. I usually stick with water. Everything else stimulates my hunger pangs.
**Invite God to point out every sin in your heart and be prepared to repent, (feel regret— ask forgiveness— turn your back on the sin and give it no place in your future.) This is the evacuation of all unwanted matter between you and God.
**To finish— Expunge all media, internet, television, cellphones and distractions from your presence.
When you get alone with God, bring your Bible, a tablet and pen. As you talk to God about your circumstances, write down every scripture address Holy Spirit brings to mind. Read those scriptures. Write down what impressions you receive while reading. God LOVES to talk! He uses His Word, until you start to discern His voice over the other voices in your life.
“You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.” Jn 16:24NLT He will give us joy for our efforts
Our Papa God loves us. He loves to talk to us. His desire is for us to walk close enough to His instructions, “turn here,” “go down this road.” I read of a man who awakened to the Lord’s voice in the night— “Don’t go to work tomorrow.” The more he listened and prayed the more certain he became, the message was perceived correctly. ‘Yes Lord,’ he replied. The Twin Towers, where he worked were attacked by the Al Queda. Date was September 11, 2001. This man had precise knowledge!
You too can be certain of directions, words of wisdom and knowledge. All of the Lords’ instructions starts, “when you search for Me with all your heart.” How about it? Will you do what it takes to get started in hearing God’s voice? It’s your choice. You choose.
PRAYERS: Abba Father Use these feeble words to take people deeper into knowing You, Your will, and Your power in their lives, in Jesus’ name I pray.
